On the other hand big companies turning around and breaking the rules, a company with deeper pockets. Being deceitful, dodging the guy then forging evidence. Them getting charge 20k$ is a victory even if a minor one. /. is NOT particularly anti-IP. But we are pro-reasonable and anti-'non contributing corporations who leach off other peoples hardwork'. The reason most people have a problem with copyright laws is very much in line with supporting this guy.

New to the latest round of OS wars? The fight is mainly about making nothing work with anything else, think diverging. Lets go with file formats.... mac has 'real' media garbage and their slew of drmed crap. Microsoft is forcing its own 'standards' onto the market to the detriment of everyone else... hey it was MS that hated/hates png files. My ipod gets updates that break the thing on purpose forcing people to reverse engineer all over again or me to use itunes (similar to if windows crashed for me using FF instead of IE, i'm sure theres something illegal there).. Oh yeah and MS is doing just that! vista sp1 breaks programs left and right even when they are actually compatible. Theres zune... hell all DRM is is to break compatibility with something that would normally work fine. Sad that you need to expend so much effort just to make products NOT work. My phone with windows mobile on it will only sync properly with windows, hell if i updated the thing itd probably break xp and only sync with vista. I'd say linux and more standards is the answer but since hardware companies try so hard to not sell their products they don't release any docs so OSS can't use them (graphics cards anyone?).

Whew that was refreshing. On a related note does anyone know of any standardization initiatives I can get involved in? The 8 different power cords by my ankles which could ALL be mini-USB is getting to me.

Yeah, basically the requirements you mentioned are a warm adult body. Another requirement however is that you have to be NOT legally competent. I'm exempt from jury duty because my father is a lawyer. Because i might be better equipped to pass judgment or at least explain things to other jury members i am not allowed to do so. As well people with big careers will dodge jury duty. And people generally busier will dodge jury duty (University students, professionals so on...) plus these people are more likely to come up with an excuse to get out of it. What this means is you are left with the bottom of the barrel in a country where the average voted in GW Bush twice. Thats kind of a scary thought. (the last note reserved for the states however i wouldn't trust the bottom of the barrel of any country making important decisions like that).

A minimum, a maximum and an average speed.
Statement of how they are prioritize ie. (VOIP->html->torrents) and how they do it. As well no amount of prioritization shall drop you below said minimum.
Zero, i mean ZERO throttling based on destination.
They should also show their uptime (99.5% or w/e).

It would also be nice if they had you pick settings when you sign up. If you are unlikely to send more than 10 emails a day, a cap should be enforced based on that. (This would be to kill spam/botnets). Or if you don't intend to ever torrent they could block that from you and maybe bump up your minimum speed in exchange. But what am i thinking, easy flexible systems can't happen in this business environment.

Data of this type is normally sent twice a year (trend data). In a 6month period google is visited by billions of people and deals with over 18BILLION searches. Google is more likely to harm your employment by finding someones facebook than selling a company around 10TB of data to sift through every 6months.

Employers should not be allowed to hire PIs or specialistst to learn about you. It would likely take that since google doesnt have your name they have your IP which they wont give out. A PI would be needed to get your IP. If they were willing to go so far they could just hire a PI to follow you around or put cameras in your house.

Banks have too much oversight to be able to do it and they likely don't care.

If you were really concerned about your privacy you would falsify your IP address and use the internet through it at all times, never use your real anything setting up a completely fake identity.

Anytime you access the internet normally you send your IP with that a PI can get your home address, name, phone number, anything on public record, w/e google can find, credit record and more i'm sure. Also all data you send is sent to about 12 companies before it gets anywhere (ISPs). Atleast 4 governments will be spying on you.

In such a strongly Capitalist country such as the states I find it reprehensable that you would lash out at China. Perhaps you feel the squeeze and realize that China will pass everyone and become the world power. Then lets see what happens. I can guarantee, the US will change any laws necessary to keep up with China, after being top dog for so long it makes sense that you don't want to lose your position.
