My brother used the Lego train motor (minus the push on '+' spline attachment) to drill a hole in Luke Skywalker's head!
Why couldn't he have just drilled out a minifig!!??!!
My internet banking (socgen) DOES work on Firefox (I'm using XP but I assume it would work on Linux as well) but they also have a horrible javascript app to capture your password, each time it is loaded the numbers are positioned randomly in an attempt (I assume) to prevent key loggers (you can only click the numbers with your mouse).
Sounds like a good idea unless you're blind/partially sighted or have javascript disabled for security reasons. I've never bothered looking into it very deeply but I can't imagine it would be very hard to work around the javascript and once that is out of the way you have a password which is a 6 digit number!!!
Okay, I'm assuming that the manufacturers get their data by testing their drives in perfect conditions i.e consistent power supplies, no physical shock, hermetically sealed rooms etc.
And your average user probably has no UPS and a good proportion of those are laptop/external HDDs which obviously go through a significant amount of physical shock.
Not quite what the author was thinking but interesting none the less. Leonardo is an open source project (in the form of a PHPNuke module) for paraglider pilots to upload GPS data for all to see/share:
The community welcomes your attempt at censoring us. It will only present us with yet another challenge and cause the gap between our skills and your own to grow.
This reminds me of mountainbiking in my local woods. The ramblers, wardens etc started putting logs across the trails in an effort to stop us riding them, little did they know that the extra obstacles made the trails even more fun to ride:-)
I've been wondering about this since the story broke last week, presumably someone will have to keep a definitive blacklist of banned users, otherwise you could just go to another ISP and sign up for another connection.
This makes me wonder, will the address/telephone line be blacklisted or the individual user whose name the line was in?
If the former, then it would suck if you just moved into a place that had been blacklisted. If the latter, what's to stop someone else in the household from signing up for another connection?
I can imagine many student houses with 4 or more people living there, assuming it takes a few months to get noticed and sent you first warning, another couple to get your second and another couple of months to get cut off, you could then sign up again under another name and go for another round...
Most people don't want to do hugely complex photoshopping, just remove red eye from phots and a few other simple effects. I'm a web developer who doesn't use anything remotely close to Photoshop's full capabilities but I do need to be able to open PSDs that I receive from designers, knowing that I'm seeing the exact, pixel perfect, image that the designer sent me.
I then need to separate layers, crop bits and save for web, that's about it...
Is this possible with the GIMP?
I don't mind a bit of a learning curve (especially if it means avoiding an eventual up/down grade to Vista), I just need to know that I'm seeing what the web designer intended.
The only other thing stopping me from moving over to 'Linux only' is a port of the IE rendering engine for firefox/opera/any Linux browser that doesn't require running an emulation layer that will unnecessarily slow down my, already struggling, PC.
My favourite set was the red car chassis sports car with the blue seats, my (younger) brother was more in to the train LEGO though. I remember he pulled the plastic bit off the end of a motor spindle and used it to drill holes in Luke Skywalkers head!
Only a small thing but the search form doesn't have a submit button (I know you can just press return but does everyone else?)
Also, (IMHO) Enso! What a stupid idea!!
Why would I want to hold down capslock and type 'open appname' to open an application?
Personally I have my most used apps (about 12 of them) in the quick launch tool bar (two mouse clicks and it's launched), even though I have to move from keyboard to mouse it's much more convenient than holding down capslock and typing two words with one and a half hands.
Also, what happens if you want to shout about OPEN SOURCE?
Can someone help me understand how this makes live easier?
Actually, in the UK anyway, a lot of DJs prefer to use one of the vinyl midi controllers (such as Serato or the new Native Instruments hardware with Traktor) because it offers more hands-on control than CDJs, offers all the features of a professional DJ mixer regardless of the facilities available at the venue and also saves the cost/effort of burning MP3s to disk.
Another popular alternative (used by a lot of 'big names' such as Coldcut, Pete Tong, Sasha, Richie Hawtin, Daft Punk etc) is mixing straight from your laptop using Ableton Live, this is more like bringing your recording studio to the nightclub and doing a live remix.
5 years ago I had been learning HTML for about a year already, based on tuition from a friend who had taught me how to hand code HTML in a text editor. I had also learned a bit of javascript and ActionScript in Flash (this was in the days when Flash 4 was current and tables for layout was an accepted way of laying out a web page, not THAT long ago?!?).
My Dad said I should get some qualifications (I flunked College/Uni) so I went along to a local 'IT Training' company. At the introductory presentation they showed us a great Flash animation with some really impressive graphics and they promised that within 3 weeks they'd teach us to do that!
Baring in mind that this was just a basic animation with no interface/interactivity, I was a little sceptical, how would they teach us to be graphic designers capable of turning out animated graphics worthy of quake 2 in 3 weeks! After the 'stoke-fest' presentation I went online and checked the company's website and was presented with a pink and black site with 100% font size, Times New Roman, blink tags and a java applet for the navigation that didn't work!
Needless to say I didn't sign up, although I did consider approaching them to re-build their website...
Here is footage of an attempt to match the worlds highest BASE jump (about 2000m). A jump of this height wouldn't be possible without a wingsuit because there aren't any cliffs high and vertical enough to jump without one.
Gliding/nuclear risk analogy Vs common gliding expressions:
From TFA:
"Let's face it, nuclear weapons are the elephant in the room that no one likes to talk about."
Common gliding expression:
"There's no such thing as a good pilot, just an old pilot"
From TFA:
"So let's approach the issue from the less threatening perspective of the awesome picture below"
Common gliding expression:
"Better to be on the ground wishing you were in the air than to be in the air wishing you were on the ground"
Need I say more?

This could put a lot of 'music' producers out of business. Stock, Aitken and Waterman for example.

So unless we can remove the 'average users' statistics from the independent data then we are comparing apples© and oranges...
...that GNU stands for Generally No User interface? Come on, own up, who was it?

You might want to check that rnmb.net and ucmal.com are added to the list.

There appears to be more than one domain involved:

Also, as it works by exploiting holes in real player I'd assume it won't effect you if you don't have real player?
I'm just glad I replaced it with Real Alternative ages ago.
Wow, I wasn't aware you could do OCR within a firefox plugin... respect!
The difference this time around is that TFA has some cool, high def pics that I can crop for my desktop wallpaper :-)

Actually, the official Southpark website has happily mentioned and linked to MrTwig.net for years so I'm quite happy to talk about fight club, in this case.
