I was wondering if anyone can answer a simple(?) question: Can data be recovered from an SSD after it has been overwritten once? i.e If I'm disposing of an SSD with sensitive data on it do I have to run secure erasing software to make multiple/random writes to every sector?

I know many security guys (mostly on FreeBSD servers) who don't even bother with a firewall. You shouldn't have insecure services running in the first place.

Of course it's a whole other world when it comes to protecting a LAN where you can't effectively control the services running locally.

    I'm sorry I don't have +1 insightful to give you but I 100% agree, and I'm a developer!

As a (desperate/skint) freelancer I often take on work with people (designers/client facers) who either come from a print/art background or are good at 'using the tools' but have no appreciation of what is involved with making a usable/scalable/accessible web page.

Personally, I like to think I could make an intuitive interface for a CMS but picking complimentary colours and creating a 'pleasing' layout is way beyond my abilities, let alone designing logos etc.

I have one colleague (out of many) who I enjoy working with. The build process is always quick, there are rarely any come backs from the client and, primarily, I can see that his designs are web designs, not just pretty looking layouts i.e no fixed width/height, no unnecessary use of images, pixel perfect only where it should be (no aliased borders etc).

I haven't heard about Cinea protection being cracked yet.

I don't know about the technical details or if it really counts because it is only used by the studios on the screeners they send to association members.

It requires a special DVD player to play the DVDs and those DVD players aren't easily available.

Incidentally, I heard that they have had problems with it, apparently most of the screeners they sent out of Munich in 2005 wouldn't play which may have had an effect on the lack of Oscars the film won (although it still got 5 nominations in 2006).

Of course, if you could get hold of the disc and the hardware you could easily make a nice TS.

A modular robot that can easily disassemble itself and share parts with other robots would be pretty handy on the moon don't you think? If the robot could fulfil a useful roll with one or more modules inactive/jettisoned it would be much more useful than one which is useless as soon as it gets a flat tyre. Once a robot has too many broken modules to play an active roll in exploration its working modules could be scavenged by other robots.
