Why was the parent modded down as flamebait?

For the same reason that your post is modded funny (it would be troll or flamebait otherwise). Especially considering it doesnt "disprove" evolutionary biology in the slightest and everyone here knows it.

Even if it was a creationist posting (which I doubt, the ahahaha kind of gives it away) he knew he was flaming when he wrote that posting it on /. of all places.

The so called "junk DNA" being not really junk is old news, saying it "disproves" evolutionary biology is just like a typical creationist troll trying to "disprove it" giving the scientific side no added information as if its been dogmatic since Darwins time.

The scientific model is one that ALWAYS changes however slight with *shock horror* new discoveries and new information we are always working on.

The reason why creationists are viewed as stupid is they argue without any understanding at what they are trying to disprove. Essensially trolling with an army of strawmen, and yes I have encountered that MANY times and it is very fustrating.

I get the sneeking feeling that you are trolling too, considering that you were modded "funny" instesad of "insightful" leads me to think that I am not alone in that assumpsion

Yes and no, nothing you say is wrong, yes the Playstation brand has always had issues with their disk drives/lasers.

The thing I think he was refering to due to it being a smaller disc (in size and capacity) the Gamecube on average had faster load times due to the laser doing alot less work and data transfer from the disk being usually smaller. The sacrifice was you couldn't fit as much but Nintendo didnt see that as an issue for them themselves, they had some sweet graphics compression technologies, they left 3rd parties out in the lurch on that one.

Issues like the disc issues and RRoD was the reason why throughout 2007 the Wii was my only current gen console until I was sure the hardware bugs were iorned out (to a reasonable degree) on the 360 and Sony finally had a system that didn't have disc issues.

  4. Re:No Gamecube on The Complete History of Nintendo · · Score: 2, Informative

Nah, it was never going to get #1, devs were still burnt after the way Nintendo treated them during the first period so they were never going to get all the major multiplatform hits and less exclusives than say Sony.

Also dont forget the PS2 won by a very large margin. In 2004 they were in 2nd place but in 3rd by the 360's launch. The PS2 really dominated towards the end due to titles like Singstar, all of a sudden teenage girls wanted PS2's which really skyrocketed sales by turning it into a glorified karaoke machine which is still going on.

The cube cold have gotten #2 but #1 was out of the question, the PS2 was always going to win that generation like the Wii seems poised to win this generation. The PS3 has potential to be a mass market device but its too expensive for the mass market/casual gamer.

The 360 I dont think has it, I think it has what it takes to be THE system for the hardcore market but the casual market is waaay to big these days to win a generation without them. I think Microsoft should be happy with what their machine is and be the hardcore system, its profitable for them now.

On those games, yeah I got them all except Tales. At my local retailer it was usually $10 cheaper to get the games on that platform so the cube racked up the majority of multiplatform titles in my home. It saved me alot in the long run

As somebody who owned all 3 consoles (4 if you include the Dreamcast) I must say the cube did have its place deserved in my living room.

Metroid Prime was extremly well done, props to Retro Studio's for that one, Prime 2? Good but didn't do anything new. Double Dash wasn't a major step up but still an improvment

There were quite a few awesome games that were either Cube exclusives or timed exclusives, RE4 being the best of them (IMO best game of last gen). Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, Eternal Darknes, Ikaruga (now on XBLA!) and for 1st party you are missing Wind Waker (once you get around the cartoonly look its actually quite good), F-Zero-GX and Pikmen.

Why the cube bombed was because it just wasn't enough, they didn't have that killer app (like Final Fantasy for Playstation and Halo for Xbox) and they're marketing lacked in the West (they did quite OK in Japan). Marketing is alot, and lack of marketing can be a major factor in getting wiped out of the race (go ask Sega!)

Why is it that every time we talk hardware sales that somebody doesn't like, software sales always seem to come up. You can come up with all sorts of numbers to twist rankings however you want. At the end of the day, the numbers that stick and go down in the history books are console hardware sales.

Sure the libary is rather thin, but lets just end this "wii bashing because its fun" its basically like endorsing Twitter's shilling
Most people dont have 50 game wide libaries, some have max 10. Personally I think the Wii is fine for that sort of consumer.

First you have the 1st party titles, nobody does 1st party games like Nintendo, but there are some pretty sweet 3rd party games out there if you look hard enough

Exclusives: Zack & Wiki, No More Heroes, Elebits, Endless Ocean, Trauma Center, Boom Blox
Good ports: Guitar Hero III, Rock Band, RE4, Bully, Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones
Comming: The Condiit, MadWorld, Trauma Center: New Blood, Disaster: Day of Crisis, Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero World Tour, TNA iMPACT

The landscape is not as bleak as most people make it out to be. With that being said, I get more out of my 360 than I do with my Wii but that doesn't make the Wii worthless, its quite a nice addition to my game setup (as someone who has all 3 consoles and both handhelds)

At this point, I'm not sure what's more depressing, how bioshock turned out or the fact that EA is fairly likely to make a SS3.

Is that any better than making a Bioshock 2? I mean the story was basically complete, no sequals needed and a prequal would just ruin the first games story. A System Shock 3 is do-able however it needs to be done with a 'tread with extreme caution' approach. SS2 has a special place in alot of gamers hearts.

The PC port wasn't all it could have been yes, however the 360 version was quite a spectacular experience on a 42" screen and surround sound and no lights. Sucked me in more than any other game released last year, and thats saying something.

Point and click adventures have their audience but will never sell as well as the more popular genre's of today. However used right it can have decent success (Phoenix Wright).
