Uh no, not in Australia, you have hundreds to chose from usually. There is (or at least was) a guide in APC (Australian Personal Computer) that pretty much lists all the service providers you can get.
Out in the bush its harder (most places there still can't get broadband) but most towns that have over 30,000 people usually have some pretty good options.

If they went through with the SNES CD and it flopped like the Mega CD, I reckon Sony would have never bothered with the Playstation and consoles may still be a Sega vs Nintendo affair
Exactly, AMD hasn't exactly been THAT bad to open source, ATi has always hated it, but so does nVidia. The graphics card market is a cuthroat market between those two to get the most out of their chips and I don't see them opening up their drivers anytime soon but anything can happen. AMD is frendlier to open source than ATi is and once they mould into one company who knows what will happen.
