This doesn't say anything at all - just because you and your wife don't use computers doesn't mean that the rest of the world will stop using computers. As adorable as the ipad is, it is a computer replacement only for people who don't use computers. It's great for media consumption, but an ipad is not a computer.

I have an ipad. I am not much of a media consumer: I don't like watching movies on a tablet, I don't subscribe to magazines, I don't read digital books and I'm not too big on facebook/twitter scene and portable gaming isn't my thing... so for me the ipad is just a big paperweight. But I can imagine for media consumers it is better than sliced bread - all the things they needed a computer for many years ago they can now do it on the ipad, good for them. That doesn't mean ipad is a computer replacement - it's only a computer replacement for people who didn't use computers in the first place.

The problem is that they expect people to pay over $600 per year to watch ads. That's what television is: an advertising machine. It's like a highway billboard ad, but right in your living room. They don't even try to hide it anymore. You get about 10 minutes of advertising in a 30 minute tv show, and that doesn't even include the product placement inside the show itself, and it doesn't include the banner ads the network overlays during the show.

No. The amount of fuel your power plant uses is proportional to the power it is supplying. In case of coal plant: there is less coal being burned, in case of hydroelectric: less water needs to go through the turbines, in case of nuclear: control rods are inserted into the reactor core to slow down the reaction of the fuel rods by absorbing neutrons.

I'm afraid your information about ultracapacitors is not up to date, here's a 125 volt ultracapacitor

They don't have the capacity of lithium batteries, but they have very high charge/discharge rates and low internal resistance. This combined with a lithium battery will allow regenerative breaking to buffer big chunk of energy before slowly charging the battery with it, and it can provide a nice boost during acceleration to help reduce the load on the battery.

  14. expectations on Hybrid Car Owners Not Likely To Buy Another Hybrid · · Score: 5, Insightful

It could be that people had unreasonable expectations from the hybrid to begin with, if you look at the advertising they promised a green car that doesn't use fuel and has flowers grow in its wake. In reality you ended up getting something that was marginally better fuel mileage than a compact car, but costs a lot more.

I drive a prius, I am disappointed with the fact that they STILL use outdated nimh batteries instead of lithium. Afaik they also don't use any of these new awesome ultracapacitors, so what the hell are they doing? The industry's stagnation annoys me, and I doubt I am alone.

The ancient minded idiots aren't the game playing type anyway. EA appeals to younger audience who realize that sexual orientation isn't cause for discrimination. Some people like fish, some like beef, whatever you happen to enjoy: it doesn't mean you're righteous or vile, it's just what you happen to enjoy. Younger generation realizes what you do in your bedroom is of no concern to people outside of your bedroom.

These same a-holes were bitching because JCPenney hired lesbian actress Ellen for their latest ads, and JCPenney basically told them to fuck off and they kept Ellen. I commend their decision and so do most people in this country. The homophobic a-holes are a loudmouth group and they're very loud and obnoxious, but they don't represent anyone. The market has spoken: nobody cares about the minority of loudmouth homophobic a-holes who hate everything.

A government needs to fear its people, not the other way around. The government needs to be punished for knocking and asking for this. You wouldn't let your government get away with trying to pass a law legalizing prima nocta, yet they try to pass this sort of invasion of privacy and all we do is give them a light slap on the wrist and say "no, not now".
