"how did Hollywood get the kind of power and leverage that it has?"
Hollywood: a brief history
Hollywood began when a group of copyright and trademark scofflaws moved to California to be as far as possible from Edison in New Jersey--who owned motion film patents--in order to avoid paying license fees and to make it inconvenient for someone a country's width away to sue. After thumbing their collective nose at the law for many years, they began planting money and people in high office in an attempt to further subvert the law, and here we are.
All of that is true. Kimble is a fraud and a douchebag. But I'm not sure what that has to do with this particular indictment, or whether he should be jailed on this particular indictment because of his past fuckery.
He is very likely guilty of things charged in this indictment and may very well serve time for it, but I'll wait for the jury trial before forming that opinion.
Perhaps the "right" thing to do is stop bending over for media companies, who are still free to compete like everyone else. Perhaps the "right" thing to do is for politicians to stop taking bribes from corporations in exchange for legislative favors. Ha ha! Just fucking with you.
So your XBL avatar won't be displayed with anything resembling a gun (unless you're grandfathered, which means virtual guns will still be all over XBL)...but you can still use virtual guns inside the games themselves to shoot enemies in the face, right?
Godaddy didn't listen to anything but the sound of people beating a path to their competitors, and if you think they've reversed their stance I have some beautiful waterfront property to sell you.
The politician(s) trying to ramrod shitty legislation through at all costs was paid by the very people it would benefit? No one could possibly have predicted this.
Kentucky has phones?
Anonymous mom makes anonymous complaint about unidentified gub'mint worker. Sounds legit.
Yes, because it's common knowledge that police never abuse their authority.
Good gravy, where do you people get your facts?
Twitter is for telling the world when you take a dump. Facebook is for "liking" when your Twitter friends take a dump. The more you know [tm].

"I see you're looking for *PORN*. I will open a Bing window and help you search."
(5 minutes later)
"You appear you have found what you were looking for. Have a nice evening."
By our powers combined!

"whereas Senator Dodd is off in a completely different branch of government."
Specifically, the MPAA branch.
When did Slashdot become Fortean Times?

"I guess being a first termer makes mine a little more likely to pay attention."
They'll bludgeon that "pays attention to constituents" thing out of him in no time.

"Could Rossi be on to something?"
No.
"It turns out that we have only a vague idea as to where Earth got its water"
Read your bible! It's God's piss.
"Add to that the annoying you are a pirate ad they at least have in europe before the movie."
My brother was complaining about that when it first started up. I had no idea what he was talking about, because I pirated movies.
Clearly they are reaching the wrong audience with that message.
0) WB cuts LV an enormous check, CEOs go golfing together and have a hearty laugh at the little people being ruined by SOPA.

Fucking Quislings.
"blah blah blah customers will be harmed"
Suck my dick, AT&T.
"What's the rate for Senators?"
Remember, haggling is perfectly acceptable. They've already established what kind of people they are.
"Its the father doing things in the babies name"
Hmm. Didn't the US criminalize internet impersonation? The guy in the commercial is going to Gitmo.
Congratulations on being trolled by the author/submitter, Slashdot.
