It is making them money by further exploiting the people who aren't pirating. Just like DRM and every other inane scheme they came up with. Pirates still pay what they always did: nothing.
The logical response to losing your business to copyright infringement does not involve pissing off the people are are buying your products.
"For something to be truly random it must be free from influencing factors and initial conditions. Since nothing in *this* universe is free from these factors, nothing can be said to be truly random."
For the most part, quantum-level action is random. Positions of electrons in atoms are the big one, which is probabilistically random (and true randomness can come from that if used carefully).
The irony is that folks of the political persuasion that want to "tax the rich" more and make corporations "pay their fair share" take every tax break and loophole available too.
Of course they take tax breaks and loopholes. It would be stupid for them not to given everyone else is. That doesn't affect their argument as to whether or not they should exist. Hell, it makes that argument several times stronger, as they are in part hurting themselves. Did that train of thought ever arrive in your mental station?
I must say, though, I am against corporate taxes. They're usually just passed down directly onto buyers and do hurt market efficiency. I would advocate that they be abolished and in their place, we increase income tax substantially on people making millions (local companies) and place limits on off-shoring wealth (multinational companies). That's where the real money is and it is far harder to pass down. Pretty much every argument made by libertards (libertarians) supports this, although they themselves do not, because the majority of them do not actually care about the greater good.
Which is why the free market is a myth. It can't last. As the players get bigger, and history shows that's the end result, they start to influence the countries they reside in, to make it harder for new companies to enter markets. Even if they don't, it is pretty hard to compete with entrenched companies benefiting from control of resources, logistics, resellers, etc..
Libertarian free markets are a nice idea, but corporatism is their real life counterpart, and it isn't very fun.
It does vary, but outside a few small areas (college towns have to be fairly open in general), it is hard going. I think that most people don't even realize how much corporations dictate their lives. I certainly didn't until I tried to go barefoot here in Raleigh NC. Now I know, and it's a bit scary, honestly.
It is much safer than "common wisdom" has it, which if you did some research, you would know. That said, even if it weren't, how it is your business? Or do only certain personal freedoms matter?
In my book, if you're running a public business, the rules change. Of course, the law in the US doesn't currently agree with that view, but laws are often wrong. Were you alright with, say, restaurants that didn't allow minorities in? We as a society determined that simply owning a business doesn't give you the right to be racist. We can and need to decide more along those lines.
There is no way geo-engineering is ever going to go anywhere. Look at the outcry around genetic engineering from the religious right. If they think that curing genetic diseases is a crime against god, what do you think they'll say about weather manipulation?
The copy of copyright and patent supporters is to prevent systems like the internet from being founded. This is a great example: were the important protocols and general structure patented, what you know of as the internet would not have been delayed or more expensive, it would have never existed. It is quite obvious that the greater good is of no concern to IP supporters, only their own profits.
Yet these people are still given free rein of our legal system and allowed by the weak minded to claim that copyright and patent infringement is "theft," while the real theft is that of the copyright and patent holders from society as a whole. It's time that stop, before the next big innovation is prevented. End these archaic systems this decade, support the abolition of imaginary property.
Global warming is caused by man and is a problem, and taxing carbon emissions and creating an entire carbon industry whose sole product is regulation and fucking over economies will fix it

Libertarians are actually racist anarchists and saying "lol libertopians" is just as good as actually learning what libertarian principles are.

Net Neutrality is a good idea so it's best to mindlessly trumpet it and ignore the fact that the actual legislation that passed specifically enables the horse shit net neutrality is supposed to prevent.

Indeed, about the only valid groupthink opinion Slashdot has left is the fearing/despising/tinfoiling with regards to anything related to the government.
What the hell? You just went and provided a long list of "evidence" (which, by the way, quite gives away your political standing quite easily), only to then claim something that is in direct conflict with half of what you just wrote. How can slashdot believe those "discredited" ideas and still be fear-mongering against the government? 2+2=54373?
This is exactly why people get modded down on slashdot, and it has nothing to do with groupthink. You claim that scientifically proven statements are false, pervert the English language to support your political positions (look up "theft," in either a legal or normal dictionary, and you will see it is a very specific definition), and then close with a nonsense claim... bias is not the problem in the vast majority of downmods, and their posters thinking that it is doesn't make it so.

It isn't as good as the "Interactive" system before the last "improvement," but it does work without javascript. Not sure how you didn't see this, as looking at slashdot without JS offers this to you.
It has a single voice if you want it to have a single voice, ie, you already think it does. A whole lot of people claim that on here, but it really is a dead unicorn trope. Why? Because when some story comes up which you would think would cause everyone to fall in line... people start arguing about it. However, confirmation bias works wonders. Funny how people who think slashdot has groupthink seem to disagree amongst themselves as to what, exactly, are the ideas slashdot is groupthinking about...
Ever think that maybe people on slashdot are just tired of hearing those poor arguments, not only on slashdot, but from the vast majority of the non-technical population? Holding a discredited view isn't something to be proud of, and people not kowtowing to you for it isn't a flaw.
If you have an actual argument to make about something, then make it, and see if it flies. Moderation is to some extent the measure of how well this specific community has taken your comment. And that doesn't always fall along political/sect lines, as you seem to claim. I've seen many comments in favor of copyright and in favor of Microsoft get modded to +5. It is just rarer, perhaps because the people who typically make those comments do not share the same values as the slashdot community, or because they're just assholes.

Because closing loopholes absolutely is a possibility. The armies of accountants and lawyers will just throw up their hands and pay. Sure.
Which brings me to the, possibly stupid, but still obvious, question: why don't they just turn off their GPS systems?
Time to hone their psychic abilities!

Any cases of this actually happening? Even one? Hmm?
Just as an FYI, I'm not a hippy, either. Atheist-Engineer-Technocrat-Militant. Maybe the anti-hippy...
You touch floors a lot? I would think that someone being barefoot would be the least of your concern were you doing that.

Because it is none of your, or the store/restaurant's business. Why do people need to justify themselves to you?

I suggest a transporter. Now, where did Scotty get off to...

Think it is bad for taking photos? Try living barefoot. Then you'll see just how pervasive corporate control really is over your life.
"Confiscation of cameras in the US is theft"
Not if you give it to them. Moral: don't give it to them.
Or, they could just apply absurd levels of marketing (especially product placement) to convince everyone that the cool people use your product...

I for one think we need to start at 980000.

Back to how it was about a year ago, when it worked fairly well with or without Javascript. As it is now, it doesn't seem to work right either way...
