These weren't missles, they were passanger planes with hundreds of lives!!!

  2. Re:I must say that it's really nice... on AtheOS Wizard Kurt Skauen Tells All · · Score: 1

I agree. Lately, we've been seeing the short comings of the GPL (hard to make money) and I thinks it's time to find a happy medium (for profit and open source). AtheOS seems likes it might be what a lot of people are looking for.

  3. Re:Hmm... on Scientists Gearing Up to Publish Unrestricted Journals · · Score: 1

The one thing you missed is the part before #1 where all the science is completed. Do you know how much scientific hardware costs? All those cadavers and genes and rockets and chemicals. It's bloody expensive and most papers take years of labour to produce, sometimes even a lifetime of the researcher. Honestly, I believe that the publishing and peer review part is a small fraction of the cost of the actual science that is really happening.
I beieve that the initial setup may be capital intensive but the benefits that come out of it will be substantial.

  4. What's Wrong with It? on Caldera Per Seat Licensing · · Score: 1

Isn't Linux suppose to be about freedom? You can do anything you want with GPL'd products so long as you give the source back. Let them try, nobody else is making real money on Linux yet. Right now we are running off a crap load of IPO money that will run out and many of the dedicated Linux programmers funded by these companies will be forced to take positions at companies that don't give a rats ass about Linux. Linux is not exempt from the fact that it needs money to grow and prosper.

Here's a great link for anyone intersted learning a little about Canada and not applying the standard stereo types to Canadians. Even though I agree it is humorous. Education is good. http://www.icomm.ca/emily/

No GUI yet, just paste the fllowing line in your prefs.js file: // Image animation mode: normal, once, none. user_pref("image.animation_mode", "once"); It works great.

  7. Freedom? on Can Companies Control What You Say After You Leave? · · Score: 1

Freedom of speech is guaranteed so long as it does not infringe upon someone else?s rights. i.e. racism is considered infringement (Canada anyway), manipulation of stocks is also infringement because it's not an real opinion! If I choose to say I hate Microsoft, there is no recourse because that is a real opinion. Companies cannot create laws to suit their needs, they must work within the boundaries set by the legislation of the country they operate in.

  8. Really...Why Not? on GeoWorks Patents Wireless Web Browsers · · Score: 1

I've recently filed a patent (chemistry related) but it's actually not hard. Just follow the guidelines and your in. You don't need a lawyer to help and the filing fee and review (in Canada) is only $350 (about $12.00US).

  9. Re:Canadian/USA Patent Laws on BT To Enforce Patent On Hyperlinking? · · Score: 1

Canada has its own patent system which is slightly different to the US. In Canada first to file has the rights to that patent, not prior art. So if someone doesn't file in Canada then technically we're not affected. (However, NAFTA and other agreements may interfer with the above statement)

  10. Corel on Corel Clears the Air · · Score: 3

Well, I think that is fair. They have said that after the beta they will release the source code of any components they created back into the community. Being a large company it would look bad if they released beta software that doesn't quite work a la Microsoft. Give Corel a chance to show us what they are capable of. ps. our handling of this matter was rather militant, I suspect we could do better in the future. Otherwise a company may try to challange the GPL in court.

  11. Some days I wonder.... on Corel Linux Beta License Violates GPL · · Score: 1

Corel seems to be going on the right track for awhile and then they go and do this. I'll still support them, but I wish they would stop pulling such bonehead moves!!! .
