Valid point, but there is a niche within the niche. Ever since the Wii Nintendo has been marketing towards the "family night" crowd. You'll see in almost every ad a group of family or friends taking rounds at having a blast at whatever happens to be on the screen. This still appeals to a great number of people and it is hard to get excited about the idea of sitting around in the same room with your iPhones/Droids playing Words With Friends (unless, I dunno, you were having some sort of tournament?).

I once came to a traffic light with a vehicle opposite of me atrociously billowing forth smoke. Within seconds of it coming to a full stop the car was completely out of site and nearby cars were quickly becoming engulfed as well. The light turns and I make my protected left turn, followed by their right turn soon thereafter. About a half a minute of driving later and I see a police car, lights on, pulling up behind traffic. "Yes!" I thought, "This guy driving this safety and ecological nightmare is getting busted!". Oh no, they proceed to pullover the chap to my right. I have no clue what for. Everything he did in traffic was...fine. Model driver. All I could figure was that his tags were out of date.

The other guy got along his merry way, providing smoke screens for three lanes behind him. Good job, Blue.

Being able to slap "online multiplayer" on the box was a cool thing...ten years ago. After many successes and many failures of applying online multiplayer to different types of games I think we these days have the information to apply it judicially. Some games benefit, others don't. Requiring online multiplayer takes out a HUGE chunk of your potential content, and thus customers. Either that or it bogs down what would otherwise be an excellent game with onerous multiplayer development and support.

Holy Christ. That thing is pumping sodium-potassium alloy through your computer. This stuff is used for coolant in some nuclear reactors. I had a passing thought some years ago at how humorous it would be if someone was actually crazy enough to use it to cool a desktop computer. It's a good coolant but it is VERY volatile. I don't think I, or my insurance, would be very comfortable having that in my home.

Danamics had this to say in the guru3d article:

But what if the product leaks, one might ask? Well simply we don't believe it can. Only by mechanically damaging the product, this would be possible and even that scenario has been taken into account. If the metallic closed loop structure is cut open, only a small amount of NaK will surface. This will coagulate during oxidation which tends to plug the leek preventing additional NaK from leaking out. The coagulation process is actually started by contact with water - more precisely from the moist in our air. NaK exposed to the ambient air can be seen as a grey substance.

I'm typically not squeamish on things such as this but...if they were to reopen up shop I'd be more than hesitant to give it a shot. Even if it were completely safe I can only imagine disposal would be tricky on a large consumer scale.

The way most science fiction and cape-comics writers get around this is by trying to claim the suits are one-offs from individual super geniuses a la Iron Man, Steel and even Batman at times.

Of course, this has absolutely no bearing in reality. It's really not going to happen that "just this one person in the world can makes this". I don't know if it would be awesome or terrifying if such and individual arose, but the idea is so silly that, as you said, it's not likely to ever leave the realm of fiction.

This line of thinking never quite works.

A doctor doesn't NEED wireless internet, but they certainly would like it since it makes a great number of things easier and more convenient. If the providers can update their infrastructure to accommodate traffic but choose not to the doctor is NOT going to go out and build their own network. It would require a complete change in their life and learnings to do so. It's not a reasonable thing to ask.

Much like if a software engineer gets a headache. They don't NEED it but some medicine would definitely be nice to alleviate the pain. However, pharmaceuticals are artificially pumping up the price. The software engineer is not a doctor nor a chemical engineer. Vindicate the pharmaceuticals by saying that the doctor is free to drop their life and go a completely direction to fulfill this one need is just silly.

It could be meta-moderated as well, if deemed necessary, to avoid people using it as a, "I don't have mod points but don't like you button".
