    Watch out when Copyright Superclick comes into law. By that I mean the various forms of the laws that would make streaming/accessing/viewing anything not the authorized source into a crime.

    I am floating the proposal that we make personal information just as prickly as copyrighted work. Then if Z had to pay $875,000 per shared profile times 20 million profiles he would wake up.

    Suppose you could buy songs for a penny. Great! $25 and you're set for a week/month.

    Then when more silly corporate games go on, you have "a better chance" at keeping what you own rather than "what they feel like offering".

    Minor Example, cross genre.

    Hulu removes series series from availability. So what makes you think stuff you want will always be available?

    And ... this is why twenty years later we can't wholesale ditch Windows. There are a hundred thousand little cases of this one act play in existence. It's so bad you can make a grid of it.

    A. Proprietary Windows copy of something is very good. People do work on it.
    B. Desire to use something other than Windows arises, aka a flavor of Linux.
    C. Try to switch out all the proprietary programs for their OSS alternatives.
    D. Encounter enough that are half baked because OSS Devs have a fatal weakness in the Fit & Finish department.
    E. Declare "Not Ready" and return to Windows.

    So yes, I WILL use a Half Baked copy of something if that is the last link in the chain preventing me from ditching Windows.

    I basically agree with you, and so does Nick Bilton of the NY Times. That's why I called it a Flamebait summary. They picked a disastrous phrase in "too much brain leads to distraction".

    I'm clever but you're still ahead of me. I agree, we need a "no genius left behind" program but that's too much to ask of 2011 America. Maybe we'll have it by 2020.

    One day if you feel bored again I could use someone who craves mental challenges because I have a couple hard questions to ask. Email me. It's not even obfuscated.

    Here's the simple version!

    1. Hammers are fun! You can bang on things all day with them and fix a lot of problems.
    2. Seismographs are not hammers. If you bang on things ... with a machine *designed to measure the earth banging on stuff*, you'll get a 14 on the Richter scale followed by the machine breaking... after you fixed your loose screw problem.

    It's the age-old distinction between a low-grade machine that is resistant to abuse and a high-grade machine that is vulnerable to abuse.

    The summary unfairly rewards low-grade abuse-resistant machines/brains.

    No one can strip you of your identity right? (Certain prisons excepted.)

    They are ... COPYING your identity! Your identity is your (ongoing) original creative work that no one can duplicate right?

    So all personal details are "derivative works" of your identity!

    This goes for credit cards, maybe SS #, and a lot of other things.

    You "lease" Sony your card info ... so if they get hacked, they just allowed a copy to be infringing! Sue them for $875,000 per account!

    I haven't once been told anything dangerous. At the very worst in NYC it doesn't find the road fast enough, but then in NYC the next road over usually works too and it fixes it later.
