Plus, if you are already a.NET developer, the learning curve is almost nil. The number of phones is still large (and, if coded right, is just a recompile to run on things like netbooks and MIDs)......and you can make a desktop version, too.
I'm no expert and I didn't really read exactly what you were looking for, but what about going to places like Goodwill / Salvation Army Stores / Garage sales and disassembling some of the older toys that are likely missing parts. I'm sure an old music box has some good quality metal gears, etc. and you probably won't spend more than a few bucks.
Simple....if 1=0 ("proven" in the sig) and -1=0 ("derived" by you), then 1 + -1 is the same as 1 + 0. Anything + 0 has the answer of Anything. So, 1 + 0 = 0.
I believe that the President can still veto the law and then Congress must then override the veto. There is always the chance that some convincing could sway those on the fence.
From Wikipedia, the final vote was (Senate: 90-8-1, House: 362-57-15), so in this case, it would have taken a lot of skill to achieve, but it would still have been possible.
My preference is for Congress and the Presidency to be of different parties (doesn't matter which is which). Sure, it's boring, but things get less screwed up during that time. It's when both agree that the real trouble happens......sure, there is the occasional fix, but more often than not, it just gets worse.
Another problem is large salary bands. At my current paygrade, the range is something like $30,000. So if I'm @60% of my max, they can still hire someone "at the prevailing rate" of the minimum....or $18,000 less.
Evolution to promote survivial of the "nerd race"....producing more sperm gives a higher chance of pregnancy from limited number of encounters. Jocks will take more encounters to impregnate a woman. Also, from the video's I've seen, premature ejaculation would seem to actually increase the chance of pregnancy.....when the woman reaches climax, the cervix dips into the pool of sperm that has been deposited (book link to keep it safe for work: http://books.google.com/books?id=GuFz4r64ETkC&pg=PA73&lpg=PA73&dq=woman+orgasm+video+cervix&source=web&ots=icV2hCJ5fk&sig=Nml-3YZGpQ4PZwSDB_jqmZLbPXY&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=9&ct=result#PPA74,M1 )....so, if you deposit prior to her orgasm, the chance of the sperm being taken up goes up.....as opposed to when she orgasms first. So really, it's all showing the evolutionary traits that has led to the survival of the nerd race.
I've not seen many internships actually give much valuable experience. Half of the teams around here who get interns assigned to them spend most of the time trying to figure out busy work to justify the intern (large company). I know if I'm interviewing, I don't just take "I was an intern at XXX" as valuable -- they need to talk about their projects while an intern.
I would recommend side work for a small company that has little to no I/T department. Look at some of the moonlighting web sites or troll through Craig's List ads that are asking for specific projects (if you write a simple web-based Customer Management suite that you can tailor to individual businesses, you could probably sell 100 copies pretty easily through most moonlighting sites). As part of delivery, ask for referrals. Small companies who didn't realize what I/T could do for them are much more appreciative than being a small cog in a larger company....and sometimes, it leads to repeat business. When you are ready to switch from QA to DEV, you'll have lots of references and example work (portfolio) to back up your resume.
I just got the latest issue of MSDN Magazine. There were quite a few articles related to multi-threaded (I haven't opened the plastic yet, so I'm not sure if they are good or not). http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/default.aspx
Also hints that the next version of Visual Studio will be better tailored towards multi-threaded programming.
Surprisingly, about 68% of the normal Slashdot crowd.:D
That group breaks down as follows: 50% post anonymously because they aren't proud that they are pricks. 30% are just (blank)-Nazi's (spelling, punctuation, etc.) 20% are just elitist pricks like me.
(Bastard, you knew that half the people here wouldn't be able to help themselves.)
Clearly you don't fully understand this crowd. 85% of the people are geeky enough to want to figure it out (and likely in multiple font sizes so that they can pick an answer that relates to pi or e or the Planck constant or some obscure prime or, well, you get the idea). However, 65% of all Slashdot readers are rather lazy (as evidenced by their lack of reading any posted article, and in many cases, even bothering to read the summary). So, using those numbers, we can extrapolate that clearly 55% of the people would attempt to find the answer. In your haste to be the first (which places you in the 10% Frosty Piss crowd), you merely estimated and rounded and didn't show your work.
Font selection would best work as fixed-width. Per this article, http://www.lowing.org/fonts/ I'll agree to Courier 12 pitch for it's simplistic measurements. Printed, this font is 12 characters per inch.
12 char per inch 1 petabyte = 1.12589991 × 10^15 bytes circumference of Earth @ equator: 24,901.55 miles ((1.12589991 x (10^15))char / (12char/in * 12in/ft * 5 280ft/mi)) / 24 901.55mi = 59,467.1314 times around the Earth at the equator
(All math performed using Google calculator, because Google knows everything.)
While not what MS intended, I don't see why someone doesn't do something with Windows PE ( Wikipedia - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Preinstallation_Environment ). It'll pretty much run anything XP will, has full networking support, etc. All without the normal Windows bloat.
I first learned about it when I bought a copy of Active@Boot Disk ( http://www.ntfs.com/boot-disk.htm ) to recover data from a corrupted / failed hard-drive. [Works great, BTW.]
What I understanded is that they plan to create a thermal machine to help powering the chip, thus reducing power consuption and heat.
So at what point does it become counter productive? "I'm using excess heat to generate power so that I reduce the amount of excess heat (which in turn generates less power from that heat --> etc.)".
It isn't just games. I find that if I've spent some time at the go-cart track with my kid that I have to take a "cool down" break before driving home, otherwise, I'm more aggressive and driving too fast. When it comes to racing games and go-carts, I'm a mean, competetive person (and usually I win). On the real streets, I'm actually a generally safe driver. The hard part is making the transition between from mean to safe without that cool-down period.
Bulk trash day is like the five-finger garage sale.....trucks with flatbeds come through the night before and pick over everything. I've seen some of that stuff wind up on Craigslist in less than a week.
$10 in gas, some heavy lifting, and a free post on Craigslist can net you about $30 in profit.
On cop shows, they pretty much say once it's trash, anyone can take it (mainly for collecting evidence). The only thing you have to watch out for is tresspassing......

Actually, if you are looking for the best way to do things in.NET, sometimes you have to use *ALL* of the languages. For example, the Zip libraries are only available in J# (that's Microsoft's Java wanna-be) [has to do with J++ --> J# being an implementation of Java before Sun sued them). There are things that are tons easier to accomplish in the VB.Net language than the C# language. And I guess there will be arguments for Cobol.Net, Python.Net, Fortran.Net, etc. So, while it may be punishment, sometimes, it's the best choice for the task.
