I guess it should affect everyone. I mean, couldn't pros just use an excuse that they're tourists? Then photos SOMEHOW slip to the newspapers:) Though it could go the other way around - only reporters allowed to take photos.
Yet if this happens, I guess I won't be updating my photogallery with pictures of New York:/
Most of those should be understood by default, they're simply common sense, but nowadays not many developers do that. I just hate it when, for example, slashdot point me to a website with an article, but before I even see the title, I must scroll down "by two screens worth of space". Sometimes that might be a good excuse to not RTFA (I kid, i kid!)
When building a photogallery (sig), I thought it'll be pretty much like a photo in the center, and then two buttons to view the previous/next one. Yet, when I finished, it still got filled with additional stuff (login/registration/menu/footer/etc). Well, at least the photo's in the center:)
Web developer(a must-have) has a speed analyzing tool by default (well, more of a link to a website that does the job), I prefer to use that one. Here's an example of slashdot's report.
It's one of those common things which don't really make any sense, but one of those rare ones which don't make any sense AND I'd really like to try them.
Anyway, it's be interesting to see how it's handle the/. effect - maybe not a real website, but just a simple black page with a few words and a small photo.
Well, Google analytics have everything you might need and more, come from Google and are used by pretty much everyone. That'll make it really hard for Microosft to overcome them.
I wouldn't mind testing it though... Who thought we needed another search engine before Google was developed?:)
Sure, it's a big issue, yet how many peope actually use the "remember my password" feature? I just usually check the "remember me" box near the login and password entering fields, or enter my passwords manually.
As much as like that firefox's share is increasing (CSS rendering...), we get it! How slow is this news day? Enough! + or - one two percents, who cares.
Oh, oh, I know!! It means that 2014 will be the year of linux desktops!!!1! [/sarcasm]
No, seriously, pretty much nothing. They will probably upgrade to vista waaaay before 2014. It's not like XP is problem-free, and Vista is the opposite.
Yeah, but what about those times the the package is not in th repo, and the.deb needs some obscure libraries who are also not included, and you have to compile everything? And then compiling also needs something, which depends on even more files... Also, let's not forget that pretty much every program can run on Windows, but doesn't have a linux port, or the linux alternative is far away from being better that the windows' original.
If you know exactly what program you want, and it is in the repo, and everything you need is in that repo, and there won't be any conlicts, then yes. if not,.exe FTW.
With my finger on the trigger i run./configure...
Seriously, aptitude and apt-get are probably the best installation methods I've seen (except for.exes on Windows...)
Well, it depends. A contender to who? Windows - no. Fedora, Gentoo - yes. Servers - maybe, but debian is still the leader there.
Ubuntu has a potential, but it's not some kind of magic distribution.
I just don't understand how this is promising. To use the OS, you must already have an OS. You can't install it yourself either... And you also need a browser to access it. How is this an OPERATING SYSTEM at all?
Well, you see, there are viruses for linux. However, they don't spread a lot (because if someone uses linux, he has enough knowledge not to open an attachment/install an unknown file.)
And well, saying that WIndows is bad because almost all viruses are designed for them is like saying that houses are bad, because thieves might try to break in...
I believe this might be because they DON'T use toner? [/sarcasm]
No, really, thanks capt. Obvious.

It provides download times for all kinds of connections, from 14.4K to 1.44Mbps. Also, seperate download times for objects.

The fact that there is no such thing as "the year of [OS] desktop"...
Considering the fact that Ms Office the most widely used office suite in the world... yes.
If they mean servers - maybe... But desktops? No.
No, wait, maybe the next five years will be THE YEARS OF LINUX DESKTOPZ?!
Just wait till all those flavors get released in 2007. Then, after 6 months you can write an article.
Hmmm... story vaporware?

Ok, I like Ubuntu... I use Ubuntu on my computer... But a "Windows killer"? Don't be ridiculous
