Same here. I'll switch to WINE once AOE:2, AOE:3, SimCity 4, and Kyodai Mahjongg all work with little fuss and easy, minimal configuration. Right now WINE can't handle any of those. Until then I'll just use XP and hope that SimCity 5 and all the other games in the future remain DX 9 compatible or made with OpenGL support. ALthough we know the next Age Of Empires will be DX 10 because they are made by Microsoft.
Just as human excretion isn't shit based: It just has shit sprinkled all around (like in the turds because they require shit I believe but it also contains many other things)
Excretion isn't what you'd call a pleasant experience have in your pants (some might blame the fact that it smells bad and is the roots of all sorts of infections).
Well i've found that out of all the distributions Ubuntu (GNOME / XFCE) and OpenSuSE (KDE) are the the cream of the crop. I've used Fedora and while I believe it does have its place it is really more of a system geared towards those who are willing to put up with some hassles. It is getting better on Fedora, but still it is really only a test ground for Red Hat. Although it is ashame though that no one now officially gives KDE as much official support as GNOME. Would have been nice if SuSE remained that way by the writing was on the wall once they purchased Ximian. But there seems to be some good coming out of it and maybe this will help the two DEs more interoperable.
As for Fedora, many good things have come out of the project, but I still do not think it is a "great" desktop linux distrubution just one that should be developed for the sake of innovation.
Actually the problem i've always had with KDE is themes. KDE makes it difficult to add new themes and to top that off many KDE themes look like shit. I can't count how many times I've ran into issues where I cannot compile a QT or KWin theme because configure script could detect some packahe even after I've flagged it's location. So I get stuck it a system that honestly looks like but. What I would like to see is an easier theming system like XFCE or GNOME has where I can just simply add the engine, GTK+ theme, or Window Manager theme by uncompressing the tarball and draging and dropping to/usr/share/themes then doing an chmod 760 on the directory. Or hey! If I'm lazy I could just click "Install Theme" on the dialog and that works just as good!
And please! What is the point of QT! Why not instead of porting to QT4 you port to say... GTK+ so that all the applications look and feel the same. If you have a problem with the way dialogs are laid out then why try to work it out with the GTK+ devs, and if that does work out split the project but keep it functionally compatible with the original project. Is that too hard of a concept? Now, I only run one gui library set -and- I have a truely consistent look and feel.
Oh, and don't think that I'm forgetting that there are features in QT's gui set that are not in GTK's. Those can be added. Really, and if you need it to be KDE specific just use a kde_wiz_bang instead of gtk_wiz_bang. The whole C vs C++ issue can be non-existant too if you base the poject off of GTKmm which is the C++ implementation of GTK+. It's very sweet.
Well, I'm no full time developer, but I love to hack around and am pretty creative when I want to be. The fact is that QT is totally unncessary and really is just another hindrence to "Desktop Linux." It's utterly nuts that I have to download 24 MB of extra libraries to a 4 MB package by itself when I already have libraries and routines installed that can perform those operations.
I will admit GTK+ has it's faults (the file dialog being the most common cited). Yes. This was stupid, and it's stuff like this why we need GTK+ on more than one major desktop environment. Basically you have the GNOME devs pulling the chains and whichever way they pull will have an effect on every other project that uses GTK+ including other desktop environments such as XFCE. If KDE would have defaulted to GTK+ then that would force the GNOME devs to have to compromise on issues. There would not be so much chain pulling because of this and the GNOME devs would not have total control of GTK+ and not be able to made design decisions that would effect other projects at their whim.
When I see stories like this it really make me wonder what goes on in the heads of these so-called "World Leaders." As an Amercian I'm just glad this law isn't being proposed here, but this law effects my fellow human beings living in Europe and that is in a way just as bad.
Anyways, back onto my point before a digress, I propose the time for civil change is now in America (and indeed the world) is now. We, the People, must revolt against our governmnet. We must let them know that they cannot steal our livlihood, they cannot poision us with their vitrol, they cannot remove us from our liberties. They may fight us, they may jail us, they may try to take everything we have including our lives, but they will not steal from us our freedom. Nor can they our æternal souls.
In this movement we have nothing to fear because should we fail it will have been better to fight and lost than to have never fought at all. I propose now a new movement! One in which the Republic belongs to the People and not to the whims of Special Interest and Corporations. We, as Americans of the Twenty-First Century must revolt in order to escape the pending threat of the right-wing Fascist threat the is consuming our government and we must act upon this soon.
America has been stolen from us, the People... and in it's place a "New World Order" of Fascism and neo-feudalism is being slowly indoctored into the heard and minds of our nation. I ask you as countrymen, that we must crave forward a new destiny for our great nation before it is too late.
WinFS is not a file system. It's more like an extension to the file system. WinFS run on top of NTFS and is really just an advanced indexing and database system for files.
That reminds me of this company called Vector which prays on the insecurity of the lives of college students and people just coming out of high school. Basically they give you "free training seminars" (where as real jobs are required to pay you for training) and during which one of the exercises they give you is to write down as many names as possible. Then they make you go out and sell Cutco knives to as many of these people as possible after getting you all excited about their product by lying to you about it.
But wait! It gets better, they even make you purchase your demo kit before letting you go out on your "Fast Start" and make money. In essence they have already made at least one sale off you their "prospective employee". However, once you are out doing the job they only pay you for the appointments and usually it's $10-$20 per each. You do not get paid for the time it took to set up the appointment, gas money, or travel time like most jobs in sales. You are essentially an independent contractor, but unlike most normal contractors you are force to call your "boss" after every sale. Why? Because when you MIGHT make a %10-%20 commission off of your sale if you had a good WEEK of sales he'll probably make 25%-50% commission off of YOUR sale. This is called a pyramid scheme my friends and it's illegal.
After a little research after talking with some friend about the job and doing some googling on the company I found out that the company's greatest resource is new employees. In fact many people after exhausting their list are not able to keep a stead flow of recommendations, thus ending their usefulness. They have over 80% turnover within a month of employment and 90% within two... that's a red flag right there. In fact I even did the math to see how much I would make an hour if I only made the base pay and it turned out to be about $6 an hour. I might as well have work at McDonald's.
I can gladly say that I didn't take the job. Didn't even go to the last training seminar. I would advise anyone though if they see an ad in the paper offering a per appointment based sales job not to call. It's a scam. They'll suck up to you and make you feel good, but when you can't do the job because suddenly you run out of friends and family that you unwittingly CONNED because you were given false information about the product and its competitors. That's if your lucky... some of Vector's offices have even been known to be cleared out without telling their employees if their closing, leaved their former employees with no job and a set of knives they were conned into buying.
As a neopagan that's comforting to know. But seriously? You see nothing wrong with saying that "oh, they are speaking about not "
Face the facts, many segments of the religion of Islam are just as bad as Nazism. So are aspects of Christianity. Many religions have aspects like this so don't try to point to the moral high ground if you're not on it.
Yeah, it's a living document which makes it all the more right for me to say that my ancestors who legally owned slaves and were able to brutally whip them to death just for looking at the foreman the wrong way or getting sick on the job as being right. After all the Negroid race was on 3/5 of a person.
Oh wait... it said they get 3/5 representation in the government (Prior to later Amendments to fix this disgusting hole)! Yeah, living document... morality depends on the culture of the times. Why don't you go as the survivors of the Holocaust if they feel the same way about what is right varying from one time and culture to another? Murder is murder, rape is rape, and tyranny is tyranny. To create these false "yes, but..." standards is just ridiculous.
Yes, there are grey areas of morality but when it comes to government and giving it more power you can bet that it is generally a bad thing. If you don't believe me then when not compare hom many people were murdered by common criminals and how any were murdered by "The State" "for the better good". The numbers do not even compare. I just wish people would quit using this "living document" theory as a way to expand the government's power to protect us from criminals when it is a simple observation that it is government that is the greatest criminal of all.
Better yet, why not just get everyone to protest by occasionally sending out arse loads of false messages involving terrorist plots and plans. Hech, you could go even further and encrypt some. Just increase the signal-to-noise ratio so that it becomes worthless to spy on the people.
It really makes you wonder about the level of comprehension of some of those corporate shills. Don't those who are creating this policy realise that when they muck everything up to create profits for their company they suffer too. They, their friends, their family, are all subject to their decisions in the long run buy these shady legal tactics.
So what happens when Best Friend Bob and Cousin Casey get a "cease and desist" letter / "sub poena" in the mail and they end up end jail because Mr Big Shot had to be able to buy his new Ferrari?
Why don't these people ever take a moment to think about what they are doing before creating overreaching policies that are used to turn us all into "good little consumers."
Actually this guy is a troll. This exact same message has been posted on other Slashdot discussions. I can recall at least two other times I have seen this. I would post the links but I can't find them and it's really late.
I've seen this post before somewhere and more than once. Now, I do not know who you are to come in here and keep trolling with this trash. All of these points have been discussed both in slashdot and within the scientific community. I do not understand what it is with "Gospel Spreaders" and "Bible Breeders" are but you can get over it. Practically every scientist out there studying this issue has come to the same results using a variety of different means. If you cannot accept this then go ride home on your John Deere so you can cry into your sisters tits.
But really? Has it not occurred to that if you can perform an experiment or simulation multiple times and get the same result then there is some correlation between the experiment and the result. And if you use other means to detect the result to double and triple check the final results then there is a correlation. Obviously you have no idea how the scientific method works and shut your mouth and start listening to what these scientists are saying instead of screaming "I CAN'T HEAR YOU OVER MY RUSH LIMBAUGH AND SEAN HANNITY LA LA LA LA LA LA!" If you can do that then you can sit down at the table with the big boys and accept that there are problems and we can have an open discussion on the methods needed to solve them or at least curtail their effects.
You can scream your head off all you want that this is all some big Leftist theory--lies, damn lies, and statistics--but that does not make it so. It's people like you that believe that all liberals are pessimistic and scum that piss me off. Rejecting and denying your problems does not make them go away and to the contrary they can make them multitudes worse. Why not join the conversation on the solution? Have you ever thought that it may actually be in your best interest especially if someone thought it fancy to ban that nice big Ford SUV that you bought to compensate for your lack of size and girth in other aspects of you life?
I remember reading about the end of the Tokugawa Era in Asian History class. One of the first things that happened after the Meji Revolution during Restoration was a poor attempt at banning swords. The ban even went as far a banning the expert experience of swordsmanship in battle and so anybody who was previously a samurai and had opposed the state was given the option to work for the state or they were marked with a warrant for their death. However, the latter was so intense of a punishment that they had to scale it back to accompany for the fact that there must've been thousands of armed soldiers who survived the revolution and where in the opposition of the Meji. Many will not that this is one of the emphasized facts used in the Rurouni Kenshin anime series which does stay true to the weapon ban law of the time.
The practice of hunting down soldiers may have been scaled back, but merely owning a sword on private property without the blessing of the state could mean at best compensation, weilding one in public usually meant jail time at best. I say at best because many of both the local and state police were highly corrupt and were often being bought off by various crime syndicates or politicians. In addition many of the individual police officers were scumbags to begin with and the laws of the time really only stated minimal punishment. It would not be at all uncommon to have been killed for owning a sword in private. The police at the time would even reserve the right to execute individuals who expressed disagreement with the officers during the time of arrest.
This is just one of the many examples of what happens to people who have been denied the right to bear arms. They live at the mercy of unjust laws living everyday in fear of "the law" knowing they can be killed by some rouge cops on a power trip and they have no way of defending themselves. Bob Marley was right when he sang about the Law and the police in many placed when he sang "I Shot The Sheriff."
I've found Xfce to be getting better with every release and I make it a point since I first installed Ubuntu to install Xfce since a friend of mine recommended it. I have to say that even though I don't use it, every release just keeps getting better. The only problem I have and really it's the same with GNOME and every other desktop is that most of the DE is hardcoded to use certain apps.
For instance I do not like XFCE's panel and prefer GNOME's to it because ascetically it sucks and has a lot of difficulty with integrating many of the panel applets into the theme. On top of that there are many panel applet's from each that I would like to mix and match. Now with XFCE's panel I can mix and match but if I use GNOME's panel I cannot do so. This is frustrating to no end because I want the applets to look good (GNOME's integrate perfectly into the GTK+ theme) while being functional (I love XFCE's weather applet).
The second integration problem I experience is that I find most the the XFWM themes ugly. I'm not trying to flame the designers or developers, I just do not like them. But I love XFWM's features. Awesome window manager! However, I use metacity because I think the themes are better and until compiz come out of beta, at least comes as the default, or becomes easier to install then I will not use it. To top that off, once I use Metacity or Compiz theme management becomes a nightmare.
What I would really like to see is the DE's go back to swappable interfaces. I've notice that both the "Preferred Applications" setup utility only allows options for the web browser, email reader, and terminal application. There just isn't enough configuration options in either one, but I do to say that the perfect DE would be one the compromises of both features from GNOME and XFCE. When will GNOME use's get the option of a right-click on the desktop to get the application menu like in default XFCE or iconify windows to the desktop option. Those are features I would REALLY want!
I'm no Christian but I do think Revelations does tell an interesting story, especially when it comes to the Mark of the Beast. This is almost the perfect analogy because RFID to the masses sound like the most benign and convenient things. Saves you time and money, even has the ability to make you safe from all those social dæmons that you fear.
But on the other hand it has an evil taint and is nefarious in every way. By it's very core it is tempting but most things evil are tempting because they appear convenient. However, this true evil because by it's very nature it is prone to abuse by psychotic men. It has the power to track you every move, you every purchase and in the eyes of the government and corporation that label, that identity has become you regardless whether it really be. You have just become a series of numbers, strings, and data points on a giant grid of databases. In the eyes of those in power you have lost your humanity and therefore cease to exist as a spiritual being because you are merely just data and should your data someone day become harmful to the overall goals of those in charge of the system you can merely be erased. They might not even have to kill you, per se for you to cease to exist--merely they could just deny you can such would be your execution if you could not longer make purchases to obtain food.
In a way RFID threatens ones humanity, the aspects that make us human. The fact we are more than just some plot on a grid. We are men and women with lives and feelings. With identity. We have desires, yearnings, and wants outside material. We crave things like inclusion, love, happiness. But RFID strips us of that in the eyes of those in power and thus in their world view we become nothing but mere components that can be replaced in a system that can be manipulated to their desires. When a government ignores the concept of humanity, freedom and the sanctity of life shall also be endangered and that is a price that we cannot afford.
Also a lesser known fact is that members of the SA and SS were tattooed with a runic "SA" or "SS" inscription on their arm. This helped prevent desertation towards the end of the war. In fact special checkpoints in strategic areas that would inspect people leaving an area and if you were military, SS, or SA then they would shoot you. This is also one of the reason why they were able to take out every member of the SA in just a few days with so few misidentifications.
I'd actually rather live next door to sex offenders rather than next to convicted drunk drivers. Why am I not notified when a convicted drunk driver moves in next door? Probably a lot more dangerous to me and my kids. Right?
You sir have a great point. But this our great nation, the USA, we are talking about. It kind of reminds me of an episode of "Moral Orale" where Orale and his friend bring the dead back to like because he is convinced they are sinning by ignoring Jesus' commandment in the New Testament to not forsake the gift of life. He turns everyone buried at the cemetery into zombies and they wreak havoc in the town. Everyone is running from them screaming.
At the end of the episode it is revealed that the true sin was that the reanimated corpses were not wearing any clothing. This is what offended and scared the townspeople despite the fact that the zombies were eating their brains and causing a boatload of destruction.
Sometimes satires can be closer to the truth than we want them to be and in this case the good folks at Adult Swim are onto something here. Namely, the fact that this level of religious fury of sexuality has gone too far. Labellings sex offenders for life when there are far worse crimes out there is crass. As far as that goes the repeat offense rate for thieves, murderers, drunk and reckless drivers are much higher but that doesn't stop the government from crying wolf on the issue.
Why do I not have the right to know whether or not my neighbour was convicted of say--DUI--but the sex offender has to wear a scarlet letter? Because people are convinced such laws will keep them safe. I'm totally against the scarlet letter concept with maybe the exception of DUI (they should have special plates) simply because it implies that they still are a criminal and have not repaid their debt to society. I simply am not convinced that it will keep me safe from them repeating their crime. If they are going to commit more crimes in the future then nothing will stop them from doing so and to think otherwise is foolish--the only way to truly prevent a repeat offense is to either employ capital punishment for every crime or lifetime imprisonment, both are extreme, immoral, and would do nothing to further prevent other from committing the same crimes. In fact it may even make it worse.

ouch, flamebait.
I wasn't trying to be rude. Maybe next time I parody, I should perhaps say so.
Anyways, all in good port I hope.

No thanks, there's enough trash in the New York as it is
They are all for sale. It's just a matter of to whom and for what price
Odd that this is coming from the same nation which in it's constitution defines excessive jail time as "cruel and unusual."
