I'm also vegetarian, thanks to yoga and meditation I don't miss meat. Meat and fish products disturb meditation, so you actually feel the difference. First I noticed beer whacked me off (bigtime and for several days), then meat and fish. It helps staying on diet. But I was never really interested in a "diet" and don't look at it that way. It's a great way to live healthily.
I would heartily recommend yoga and meditation, for diet I would recommend Auyrveda. There are plenty of books on Auyrveda if you're interested. They've lived vegetarian for thousands of years in India. Experience really counts!!
From the link of the sceptic: Finally, strong evidence now indicates that not all of the prescribed fluid need be in the form of water. Careful peer-reviewed experiments have shown that caffeinated drinks should indeed count toward the daily fluid intake in the vast majority of persons. To a lesser extent, the same probably can be said for dilute alcoholic beverages, such as beer, if taken in moderation.
Taken from the googled link: Hydrating beverages foster proper retention and use of water in normal, healthy body processes. Bottled water, tap water, juice, milk and carbonated soda without caffeine are all hydrating beverages.
The most common dehydrating beverages are coffee, tea, carbonated soda with caffeine, beer, wine and other alcoholic drinks. They are diuretics, meaning they foster fluid output, first in the form of increased urine production. Of course, if dehydration progresses, increasingly serious adverse effects occur..
I might add that when they talk about "tea" in this context, they are really meaning black tea. Fruit-, green-(to a lesser extent) and spice teas without caffeine (eg. Auyrvedic) should be hydrating, from my experience at least.
I'm all for being moderate, and some people always do TOO much of a good thing. But drinking water is GOOD for your body and mind. It detoxicates your body and freshens organs and tissue, so your skin will be healthier and less dry. Nothing is as good as pure water (without CO2) for this purpose.
No, we don't NEED a high intake of water to survive, but it will do us good. A healthy body is not something this guy understands I think, because you will feel what is good for your own body yourself! And beer and caffeine is not it!!
Negative sceptics want to destroy, you can read it between the lines in his article. They don't come with positive and constructive messages.
Why is it so completely impossible that the system *is* responsible? The system in Germany worked, why not the USA? Maybe there are problems in the USA legal system that need to be repaired. Why is this point of view "childish and naive" ??
The system is made by Americans. Americans should take responsibility for the system they've made. It doesn't help to become a victim of the system. Only action, and to do action you need faith, helps.
It's childish to complain about something, and expecting a "parent" to do something about it. I'm not calling YOU childish, because I don't really know you. It was just to make a point of that type of behaviour, and I'm very sorry if I offended you in some way.
See my other replies to the others' comments for further explanation.
I'm not asking you to blindly have faith in the system, but have faith that you are part of it and can make a difference. When everybody are alienated from the system, it can only become worse.
You are totally correct. This is something we as humans on planet earth really should need to learn soon. But, we shouldn't scrap the idea of faith completely, even if it has been abused for power-mongering and hate in the past. We should learn to understand the term correctly, as it was originally intended.
I'm not advocating blind faith. Blind faith is like attacking everything you don't believe in, because you're really not sure your faith can withstand outer pressure. It's when people become insecure, they become aggressive.
If faith cannot withstand logic, common sense or a sensible, human approach, then that faith needs to adjust to the living, breahting reality.
I'm talking about a bigger faith. That we can do something and make a difference, and even if we don't, at least we tried. That kind of faith can never be wrong, but people need to be open to new ideas and other's opinions. We need to find the values that are timeless, and not the symbols, rituals and words, that changes over time as everything else in this world.
Humility is to accept that you can be wrong. Everybody usually are in some way, it's very difficult to express timeless wisdom with the limitations of language. It's impossible to speak, without lying.
I don't know what model you're after, but the naïve brute-force attempt works pretty good IMHO. No shops in sight, except for nicely layed-out sponsored links: Digital Camera Reviews
It seems Google is favouring many consumer sites when you include the word "reviews". I have used it many times, and rarely find webshops, and have my tricks when I do (unless I want to browse them of course). If you want to avoid webshops for specific searches, you might try including "-prices", "-cart", etc, to weed out results. "+prices" usually works when you want to find prices, but then it's usually best to let a site tell you what's cheapest.
Err... maybe you should try searching for: "what you want to find out" -buy -commercial -shop -"some other terms involving exchange of money for goods and services"
My parent is absolutely correct. A search engine is a tool. If you know how to use it, you'll find it if it's indexed. It's not meant to be a tool to "give you what you want", as that would require a psychic.
When I search for cheapest shopping, I include "+prices", so "-prices" is probable a good start. That's the way to handle search-engines: Try out different combinations, and be sure to check out the Advanced Options, before giving up..
We're already overloaded with commercialism on the net, why would we want more?
When the barrier to entry is ZERO, then you will have a community going with volunteering, sharing, collaboration and great spirit! What is lacking is broadband to everybody, more Wiki-webs, 3D Wiki-Landscapes for the artists, etc. This already exists here and there, you have some good sites, a few good games, but it could be much better and more sociable, and cheaper..
Anyways, I prefer to do RL stuff. You have it all there really.
I see you were modded Troll. If only moderation were like on K5, we wouldn't fall prey to stupid moderators who don't recognise sarcasm even when tagged as so.
As for the legal system, there is no wonder it breaks when you have no faith in it. Faith is required to get something to work, so obviously something more than just the system is broken. Blaiming the system is childish and naive.
The sad thing is this: The management of SCO may even claim they had to do this. They are supposedly required by law to maximize profits to the investors.
What sort of foul, unethical creature has Corporations become?
How many laws do a nation really need, and where did morality, responsibility, sharing and helping go?
Down the drain?
We shouldn't be pissed off at such behaviour, but feel pity and compassion to those greedy people who think they can be happy on other peoples energy. And do something about it instead of whining. Improve anything. Begin with yourself.
On a happy note: This is what you get when management runs a technical shop..;-)
If I didn't read/., I wouldn't have read your post in the first place, doh.
I didn't say anything about computers. I also fail to see the connection between a productivity tool and something resembling lobotomy. Although in lobotomy, the people/victims feel neither happy or sad, it seems very similar to be happy all the time. Without the downs, there can be no ups, IOW the two side of the coin depend on eachother.
I'm not so silly as to suggest we go back to the stone-age. What would be the point of development and evolution then? But healthy humans do not need drugs, especially not to feel good. If you feel bad or sad, that's the bell signal from the body and mind telling you something is wrong, just like pain. That was my point.
You go ahead and inject yourself with that stuff when it comes out and be happy as a clam. I just tell you, it's not a wise thing to do, and I'm also telling you why. It's your choice as long as the society don't have to pay your hospital bills.
I may also expand a little on the connection between body and mind. If there's something wrong with the mind or lifestyle, it may eventually manifest in the body if left unattended. Perhaps as chronic pain, or illness. Try reading books from Deepak Chopra, he'll explain better than me.
So people taking that happy-serum, will also eventually need pain-releavers and medication to strengthen the immune system. Why go through all that trouble when nature provides many natural ways?
The body can take care of itself, if we take care of it. To take proper care of it, we need knowledge and wisdom.
I wish you good luck and that you accomplish what you set out to do!
You are right I assume based on what I read from your post, so I apologize if this doesn't apply to you at all. I must say, it has and still do apply to me though. I cannot think I have accomplished a realization of any kind, to make me dull. It's not really true in the highest sense, and it halts further progress. Maybe I wrote it more for myself, than for you, and I thank you for great inspiration!
You talk about emotions, and you are right they do not define life fully. Emotions are just the spice of life. They should never rule your life. They come and they go, and you cannot force them. Desire is really a desire for a certain emotion, which can be triggered by an event, and chasing that makes one unbalanced (passionate).
What you describe is called "dispassion". Which is a very deep spiritual practice (sanskrit: sadana), where you remain unaffected by the events.
However, I enjoy hiding my dispassion and displaying enthusiasm and joy, because it makes me not so serious and life more fun and enjoyable! Plus it inspires others to wake up!
I write this, so maybe others can be inspired too. Maybe not you, because you found your way, but there are many seekers out there.
I think your posts are great. It's good to get things out in the open, the way you do. You're not afraid of critics, and there are not many people posting what they truly believe and live.
Personally, I'm against it. It's short-sighted and unwise thinking that spawns such technology to be used in a wide fashion. Because pain and unhappiness are responses from the body and mind, that something is seriously wrong and needs to be fixed. Without it, we are left numb, dumb and spiritless.
Consider abolishing all pain, you would burn up your hand on the stove! That is possible today, but nobody wants to do that..
Consider abolishing all misery, there is no longer an incentive to cooperate, abide by laws or have any ethics. You're thrown in prison or executed? No big deal, you're still HAPPY!!!:-))))
Misery stems from lack of wisdom. To artificially remove it, will create more lack of wisdom. Then there is no feedback to teach us about life, and the spiritual evolution will halt.
Talk to people who have been through a deep crisis. They will tell you, they learnt alot from it. Do you really want to take that away from people?
To use it to treat deeply miserable people, is another topic, but like lobotomy, any permanent change, is really a permanent damage. Humans need to express sorrow, not just happiness and smiles.
When you teach humans to express their feelings, use breathing techniques like Sudarshan Kriya, meditate, walk in the woods and about the beautiful vedic knowledge, then there is no need for artificial stimuli or mechanics to "improve" (read: damage) the already perfect nature we live in!
I don't really want to argue, but feel nescessary to reply. Life as a game, is an interesting topic and perspective to me, because it touches my new-found lifestyle and interest. But please, do not think I think I know so much better (although in some ways, I really do *ha, ha!*;*D). Or that what I say is the only truth I believe in. Opposites and paradoxes can coexist side by side if understood correctly. I merely wish to illustrate some points that can expand the view beyond the current horizon.
I'd never be bored if I could do whatever I want to do when I want to do it, instead of doing whatever I have to do when I'm supposed to do it.
First let me ask you to reread what you wrote. Just do it, and reflect on it for a minute.
Is this not the argumentation of a victim? As long as you're playing the victim, of course you will feel trampled and stuck. Being a victim, you force yourself to believe you have no choice, that you are stuck, have to do what your parents expect, that there is no way out, that this is how life is and supposed to be forever and ever. In fact, a victim will always identify with the victim-role. So, losing the role, you actually fear losing your identity. You think being victimized is what makes you You, but in reality you are much bigger than what you believe you are!
Just as the fear of death, we fear losing our identity (it's really the same), but our identity is what makes us small. When we think we are this and that, then we believe there are certain things we are not, and can never be. If I say "I am a thinker", then in the language that implies I am passive. But on further reflection, there is not really a connection there. To become bigger, I can be *both* a "thinker" and "active", if I so chose. Many people are just used to thinking small of themselves and especially of others (in Norway it's called "Janteloven"), they do it automatically, so many times it's even implied in the language. The book "1984" taught us that language-definitions is the worst cage the human mind can build for itself.
For the one who have little, having more seems an attractive prospect. For one who have a little more, they envy those who have the most. Those who have the most, fear those who have little the most! Fear is the main obstacle in life, and one who overcome fear, need nothing.
To overcome fear, we need to identify with being masters and creators of our own life-situation. Have you not lived for so many years? Were you a puppet all these years, or did you make choices? Even following other people's suggestion is a choice, one that we have to pay the consequences for!! Do you really want to continue doing it??
A victim can never resolve a situation exept by accident or mercy, while a master can. Who do you want to identify yourself with? What horse would you like to bet on?
You are sad or angry because you can't do everything your mind tells you you want to do. I tell you, if you got everything you desire, nothing would be attractive to you anymore. Is a über-spoiled life worth living? Some do, others envy them, but maybe you're supposed to live a different life, instead of the artificial stereotype life being pushed through media and family pressure?
As long as you believe unconsciously that you're a victim, the world will acommodate your belief with new "problems". In a way, you get everything you need, just not all the things you desire! Giving you everything without any work or merit, would leave you ungrateful. This is how much God, or whatever you want to call it, cares for us. Like a good parent, He/She/It doesn't want to spoil us. That is absolute love.
Work is not enjoyable, its too repetitive and I dont enjoy that. Also I dont like everyone I work with.
If work is not enjoyable, then maybe you should find something worthwhile and enjoyable? Or you can change your attitude to your work, or improve it. Do something about it, don't be a victim, complain and leave it at th
The more you complain, the more you focus on yourself.
The more you focus on yourself... "Ohh, poor me. Poooor meeee...." It's the BEST receipt for unhappiness!!!
Life can be said to be hard to many people, but whining only makes it harder and makes you blind to other people's suffering.
You will never be happy as long as you feverishly focus on yourself. Help others, talk to them and LISTEN. If you must complain, then GET IT OUT ONCE AND FOR ALL! Climb a mountain and scream out your anguish, whatever to really get it out. You don't deserve to be unhappy or live a stereotype and dull life. Don't become a victim of yourself.
Are you really sure you are doing what you really want? If it's boring, maybe it's something somebody else made you do?
So why do we keep having wars? why does slavery still go on? Why do we keep repeating ourselves over and over again?
What else is there to do? Life is repeating itself all the time. Weather come and go, seasons go in cycles, there is day and there is night.
But everytime you expect something, something surprising will happen. Such is also life, you cannot expect anything. Life has abundant surprises in store for us.
When we go through something bad, it simply means we still haven't mastered it yet, there is still something to learn. As long as we resist the event, we resist the teaching, and we will go through it again. This is true, both on the individual level, and the mass-level.
The more we can let go of feverishness and the idea of how it should be, we can start enjoying how it IS and THEN we can really make a difference..
It doesnt change the fact that no matter if you live in a jungle or in a cubical its hard work, and its not fun.
"Hard" work makes you less lazy. Being lazy, laying on a couch, watching TV all day, eating grapes, is not "fun" either. Doing only "fun" things, will make them boring. There needs to be a balance. Consider this: If you were never bored, how would you know you just had fun? An opposite CANNOT exist without the other.
Then again, work is what you make it. The more you resist it, the less fun you will get out of it. Not because the work itself is bad, but because YOU RESIST!! You are being fooled by your own feelings. The work in itself is not bad, just as the icecream is not happiness itself. The thought of eating an icecream, makes happiness rise in you. It's already in you, you don't really need the icecream.. With the right attitude and knowledge, any work can become positive and rewarding. If not, maybe it's time to change?
I recommend yoga, auyrveda, meditation or just a good walk in the woods. You'll get a new perspective on life.
Life is what you make it. It may sound cliche, but that's because people just say it, they don't live it. Then the words mean nothing and are lifeless. Live it and see for yourself.
The sceptics, who have never even tried what they argue against, neither researched in full with an open mind. If they had done some more honest work, they might have found that brain damages brought on in later life, ALSO can bring specialized abilities (savant behaviour).
Sceptisism is doubting. Doubting is counter to life and health. If you doubt your very life and existence, you become more like a robot governed by rules, than a joyous, alive human being who can dance and sing from the heart! In fact, "joy" is not really part of a sceptics life, unless it is the joy of putting other people down.
New revolutionary discoveries NEVER come from a sceptic mind. It is impossible by definiton.
Do you really want to be sceptic now?
The paradox is that you shouldn't drop all sceptisism. This leaves you vulnerable to trickery. Instead, be open minded, study and experience the issues 100%, then drop doubting where it is due.
What horrible advice. Messing up your brain with artificial stimuli can open up a can of horrors.
Try meditation and breathing excercises instead. It is used by top-professional chess-players and athletes with big success. Traditionally, martial arts are BASED on meditation, yoga and spiritual practices, with good reasons. It really enhances your mind, physics and general life-quality.
The only downside to being intoxicated by life, is diminishing passivity. Check out the link in my sig if you're curious.
Try LSD.
