Coding for that long is just silly. The longer your session, the poorer the quality. The next day you look through all the new nifty ideas you implemented, and surprise, surprise, there's an even better way to implement it.

Of course you can spend the time more wisely, designing and stuff, but who wants to do that on a free basis? ;-) I guess I learned my lesson and tired, now I'm not going to code "seriously" on my free time until I got the perfect language to express my ideas.

  2. Moderate this parent up! on Nazis on Napster · · Score: 1

This guy says exactly what's on my mind. Too bad I blew my moderation by posting earlier.

How do people plan to wipe Nazism off the face of the earth? It is part of us all, for good and for worse. You can't kill ideas, unless the people themselves choose for themselves to go other ways. For people to be able to do this, they need to understand and accept the past, not being forced by propaganda, censorship and book-burnings.

In the broader picture, Nazism was conceieved by even greater negative ideas that inhibit humanity. So these events will keep reoccuring until we get the point.

By squashing them, you act just like them. What makes you any better then? _Reacting_ with rage is just like "them", an opposite reaction of negative energy instead of _acting_ out of love and courage.

On the other hand, if you carefully try to educate, tolerate and accept them for who they are, they are much more likely to listen to you and you to listen to them. Everybody has something to teach eachother (good and bad). People following Nazism isn't doing this because they are inherently evil and neither are "we". By suppressing them we do both them and ourselves a huge disfavour.

Yes, it would be nice to standardize more but to what cost? I believe standards should be as dynamic as possible, not standardize by limiting your choices.

The cookie-options are very cool, although I use Junkbuster as my main proxy against ads. Maybe you should try it yourself before you restate what others have said about it? ;-)

  10. Attention: Install Windows fonts! on Anti-Aliased Text in X11 Continued · · Score: 2

Well made observations, but there are of course no rules without exceptions - either way. The biggest problem in X is however, getting good enough fonts. No free distribution packages good fonts simply because the best ones are commercial.

Here's a resource to obtain fonts, free or not:
    http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/Font-HOWTO-10. html
The easiest way is to just copy fonts from your Windows-partition or CD (if you have Windows at all, but some of them may be downloaded too).

I found this resource good when I did this on Mandrake 7.2 (before I saw the option in DraConfig->fonts to automagically install Windows fonts):
    http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/mini/FDU/index.html

I got this page from this resource (containing alot of links):
    http://www.kegel.com/linux/tt.html

Everybody who have Linux should do this. You will not want to barf at your screen again. You will enjoy Linux and browsing web-pages is like browsing with Internet Exploder. That's partly unfortunately since both Nutscrape and Konqueror is just as stable. However, it's free and it's improving alot!

  14. No, you people did not grok this book! on Stranger In a Strange Land · · Score: 4

The ones who cower from fear and fight back at such words as 'communism', 'fascism', 'utopia' and 'love'. Irrational fear or lust causes people to shout and block their minds. Ironically, too often in both camps!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ;-)

Mike DID understand humanity. He understood us, and wept for us in his sleep. Except that he couldn't really weep. Can't you see that? That is what 'grok' can mean. "Get under your skin", not just analyse, prejudice, tolerate or gloat over! Grok in its highest meaning resemble more to love in full understanding, respect and openness to one another. No bondage, strings attached .. Allowing eachother freedom and space to grow.

And WHAT is wrong with sex? Why do we fear so much, we have to own our mates? It causes hurt and suffering because no such thing can really be done. An agreement is fine, but too often we find ourselves devastated over broken promises. Our social rites and expectations are too rigid. Instead of being natural, we are greedy, envious, self-pitiful, self-righteous and right out stupid. Our only defence here is that we are blind and sleeping - no, make that unconscious!

Not only that, the martian society was in no way an ideal or goal for Mike or his companions. He developed a hybrid culture mixed between humans and martian! He also did recognize that the assaults of the martian "defence", was not necessarily the "right thing" to do!

I'm not saying everyone should agree with how Mike setup things in this book, or viewed the world. Hell, everyone agreeing would make us pretty simple minded. Which we are not. However, there's an ocean between even simple tolerance and the display we have here today.

It's a clever book. Not necessarily because of its writing, characters or even plot. It's clever because it dares challenge people. That is why you see so many bad reviews on this site.

Go read it, you might decide to alter your perspective of this world for a little while. This stuff is definately not dated yet!
