    Part of the problem here is that the Feds really do target bad people, at least for now.

    So any such hacker will be seen as aiding the paedophiles, the terrorists, and the drug money launderers.

    So how does one discredit a tool that is used to do the right thing (but could also be used to implement a soviet/nazi-style social management system)?

    Illegal entry is not as horrible of a crime (at least legally) as you seem to believe. In fact, driving without license probably carries a stiffer penalty.

    Anyway, I don't belive most people will break the law if they can help it.

    Gumstix aren't exactly cheap (seems to be in the $100+ range for anything useful).

    It's a little sad that people have to pay that much when all they really need is a $5 PIC and a few throwaway components.

    Well, it could still be considered a prank even today, if it's done right.

    For example, changing class grades to all F's could be a nice prank. Or creating 100 additional student records and enrolling those in a class (then have teacher looking for Hewood Jablowme, and Richard Hertz off the roster)...

    If they did something like that, I seriously doubt they would be even arrested.

    I think what you say is true for adults, but the kids suffer under our system.

    I remember reading a story about some kid dying because his parents didn't have money for dental care. IIRC a decaying tooth has caused infection to spread to her brain.

    Stealing music is worse than terrorism. If I recall correctly, the RIAA estimated damage to our economy runs around 100 trillion USD/year due to piracy.

    Getting stuff back from the Moon is relatively cheap. You could even pack the isotope into large artillery shells and fire them towards Earth.

    Or maybe even build a giant railgun-style lanucher given all the free iron/silicon minerals and solar energy out there.

    Normal duct tape is probably frozen solid at 5 kelvin (or whatever the temperature is at that altitude).

    In fact, I seriosly doubt that any non-magnetic glue will work well at that temp.

    I known people that mailed in rebates for $0.50; having to pay $0.32 postage didn't matter either! For a company, those class-action lawsuits could still be pretty pricey due to all the penny-pinchers claming their dimes.

    Receipt is a great idea.
    For one, you could get a discount on your union dues with a Democrat on your voter receipt.
    Or you could use it to secure your job (since your boss won't fire you if he can see you voted Republican).
    Or you could sell it to the highest bidder: exchage your Billary/Osama receipt for a $20 gift card (for example). Buying votes otherwise is a real pain: people take your money but can still vote for the other guy if you don't watch them.

    As a scientist you probably know that science is no longer about tinkering and blowing stuff up. These days them kids have to love office work, reading, and panhandling to be drawn to science.

    Just focus on your GPA and test scores, then try to get into a college with a good chem department.
