Oh, don't be so cocky. I am fortunate to know a guy who awhile back was told -in writing- that his research sucked and was a complete waste of time.

That guy went on to get a Nobel Prize for the said research in 2005 and now he opens his talks by showing the "fuckoff" rejection letter...

Luckily for the idiot that wrote the letter, Dr. Marshall magnanimously blacks out the name and the sig!

why wouldn't you just buy Windows XP?

    Because you coundn't?

Most people do not actually "buy" their OS as such. They buy a computer, with whatever OS is preloaded by the OEMs.

Even for those competent and aware enough to go and buy a retail version of XP to replace the pre-loaded Vista would have to spend a lot of money, easily 1/2 the cost of their new computer ($199 for XP Home at Walmart, or a single-install version of XP Home for $119). This is on top of whatever they would pay for pre-installed Vista. Plus they would probably lose the call-in support for tinkering with the OS. Plus many drivers would no longer work or would be a pain to find. Plus most new games/applications/disks would only work on Vista.

Reminds me of that Bible story where Moses was taking some escaped slaves for a walk in a desert that lasted some 40 years.
When asked why it took him so long to get to a free land, he replied that they had to wait for all the former slaves to die off, since only their kids could be trully free.

My point here is that most kids (9+ years) these days have no problem getting their family computer to do just about anything they need, so in 20+some years when their parents will pass away, all the 'luser' issues will go away.

What the iTunes drm DOES NOT let you do easily is "sharing" a complete unprotected digital copy of the song with your "friends" on Gnutella.

Once again, iTunes DRM makes fair use EASY, and piracy HARDER. So, why do you bother inventing this fair-use-restriction FUD to justify stealing music? Makes you sleep better at night? Makes you feel like a good person and not a low-life thief, coward, and a liar?
