"Corbet says that there's not a firm kernel bug count. As the number of users increases, he noted, so to does the number of bug reports. More code means more bugs, even if the proportion of bugs (bugs per thousand lines of code) drops."
Heat dissapation relies on a large surface area, cpu's need to be small. If you spread a cpu over the area of a heatsink you wouldn't have a heat problem, you would have a slow processor.
The can of worms is already open. There is nothing the current administration will do about the NSA. There is nothing they can do without admitting guilt.
"Give me a reason to get excited, or stop spending my damned tax dollars." The reason is this. If they don't go and get rid of some of the rubbish building up in the space station the Russians are going to drown. If you want to get exited then cut off your rubbish collection for a couple of months. I have no doubt you will feel highly exited at the end of that time when the rubbish truck comes. I do find it strange that they don't just bag it up and jettison it into the atmosphere though... On another note, perhaps it is time the U.S.A. started getting the world community together for a concerted space effort. Possibly saving the U.S. money and getting some moral points as well. Thanks for marching over Iraq (either for or against), nice to see someone standing up for what they think is right.
"We need an open-source child porn database, using open standards and free from DRM, and freely available to the public, so that everyone can access all the world's child porn and thereby protect themselves against it."
My god, you're right. We will create a new format called Pink N Giggling just for that purpose.
Do you really expect me to click on a link entitled "database of child pornography"?
As a side note, who else did a double think on that one? Can we have a short show of posts for those that did with gender included? The fact that I did is really a testament to our social programming in New Zealand. The fact that I almost didn't catch myself ignoring it is even more of a testament.
HAARP is working in it right now. It might take some time though because they are one series of earthquakes and a rather large lightning strike behind this year. Not to mention the alien request to study us "sans atmosphere", but thats due after christmas.
"Look at the international "treaties" which are very quickly usurping our constitution." Usurping your constitution? You have a lot more say in that than my country does. If you or Europe change your copyright laws, we either have to follow along or face legal/illegal sanctions. The American government hasn't forgiven us for not letting them enter our waters without declaring whether they were carrying nuclear material, and that was twenty years ago. We, more than likely, lost a free trade agreement with the U.S. because we didn't blindly join their coalition of the willing and invade Iraq. Our only saving grace is that we are so far away that the senate doesn't know where we are. I seriously doubt that you were dragged into the DMCA by international treaties considering you have more leverage than any other country in the world. It is far more likely that upholding international treaties was a nicer political line at the time. WIPO is, after all, part of the United Nations and thus subject to U.S. veto.
(From the tone of my comment you might get the idea I dislike America. This is partially true. I think their constitution was a major step froward. I think their conduct during WWII was exemplary. I also think that almost everything America has done on the international stage since Eisenhower left has been for money, greed, and power.)
(On a brighter note, wouldn't Superman be the ideal suicide bomber!)
"Seriously though, what are we trying to stop?"
IMHO we are trying to stop the control of culture/technology by business. Take the internet for example. Do you think you would be posting on Slashdot if you had to pay for your HTML and TCP/IP license first? What if your computer crashed and you had to pay them again? The internet, and computing in general, has succeeded because people have been free to innovate, study, pull things apart and put them back together. In fact, most of civilisation depends on people being able to freely innovate.
"Where does it say I have the right to entertainment of any kind?"
You have a total right to entertainment because what you are calling entertainment is your culture. You sang songs to learn, read books, watched T.V., listened to the radio, played games. Do you really want a world in which you can't sing your child to sleep because it is unauthorised performance? Where you can't play a cd on more than one computer because it's locked to the first you played it on? You say that you won't buy a DRM'd product if you don't want to. You won't have a choice.
From your post's it looks like you use Java. The Java license says, "TERMINATION. This Agreement is effective until terminated. You may terminate this Agreement at any time by destroying all copies of Software. This Agreement will terminate immediately without notice from Sun if you fail to comply with any provision of this Agreement. Either party may terminate this Agreement immediately should any Software become, or in either party's opinion be likely to become, the subject of a claim of infringement of any intellectual property right. Upon Termination, you must destroy all copies of Software." How would you like to be writting an application that Java's DRM (totally hypothetical) decides is in violation of intellecual property and uninstalls itself from your system, cancels your licence, and reports you to Sun for investigation?
I don't want a world like that. I want a world where if I buy a C.D., I can make a copy for a backup. Where I can buy a movie, make a backup and use that backup so the kids don't scratch the original a week later. I do not want a world where software, music, and video is locked up so you cannot access it without permission. As someone once said about laws,"the good people don't need them and the bad people don't follow them", so why should I give away my right's when someone who wants to crack the DRM and release it will anyway. All it does is make my life harder, and that wasn't what I paid for.
Lets me put it this way (apologies to badanalogyguy). You are a soldier. There is a woman holding a child in frount of you. Your commanding officer say's, "shoot her". You don't. You are now an activist through inaction.
You may pull that apart after you have stopped laughing:) I'm sure you get the idea though.
"Activism, in a general sense, can be described as intentional action to bring about social or political change. This action is in support of, or opposition to, one side of an often controversial argument.
The word "activism" is often used synonymously with protest or dissent, but activism can stem from any number of political orientations and take a wide range of forms, from writing letters to newspapers or politicians, simply shopping ethically, rallies and street marches, direct action, or even guerrilla tactics. In the more confrontational cases, an activist may be called a freedom fighter by some, and a terrorist by others, depending on which side of the political fence is making the observation.
In some cases, activism has nothing to do with protest or dissent: for instance, some environmentalists do not wish to confront organizations that harm the environment; instead, they seek to educate people about the practical matters at hand, such that an increased awareness of the issues might induce a change (for instance, educating children about small efforts they can make to help the environment).
Since the 2004 elections and controversy over gay marriage in the United States, "activist" has often been used as a pejorative for those who seek to redress social ills through legal rather than legislative action. Thus many conservative politicians have sought to curb the power of those deemed "activist judges" whom they claim are acting outside traditional boundaries of judicial review [1]. Some liberals contend that judicial activism is a long-standing US legal tradition, while others have responded that judicial activism is equally or more prevalent among judges deemed conservative."
From the Wikipedia. This is more inline with my views of activism than the Wordnet meaning of,"a policy of taking direct and militant action to achieve a political or social goal".
I doubt it. Reason one, the economy can't take it. Reason two, the 500 million will be awarded to a company in the existing Military Industrial Complex.
"Corbet says that there's not a firm kernel bug count. As the number of users increases, he noted, so to does the number of bug reports. More code means more bugs, even if the proportion of bugs (bugs per thousand lines of code) drops."
Oh dear. I can see that being quoted.
I would go for impersonating an FBI agent.
Besides, it's obvious that it was to tell men from woman when choosing a mate.

They colonised north America? I thought they just made a settlement, and left a couple of plants behind, and then all went home and wrote it down. .
The can of worms is already open. There is nothing the current administration will do about the NSA. There is nothing they can do without admitting guilt.
If you were pulling the strings, which would you want more?
A) The judge to quash the well publicised case, possibly causing an uproar.
B) The judge to allow the case. Drag the case out over a year or two. Make the EFF spend a shitload of money, and then have the defendant win.
Besides, the NSA are still sitting pretty. It's AT&T that's being sued, not them.
Strangely enough, the last popup I got was at http://nvuext.mozdev.org/.
"over 6,831 laptop type lithium-ion batteries"...."range is about 250 miles"....Well, at least we know where Hazballah are getting the rockets from.

Apparently it has dictionaries.
I thank you for your $20...doh! Damn you Anonymous Coward person!
This website was bought to you by, "Defective by Design" lmao.
The link is directly to a .pdf file. This should link to the Google html cache.
