    "Developers gotta eat" is no more an argument for why closed-source is ethical than "robbers gotta eat" is for robbery.

    There is a HUGE difference. The difference is YOU obviously want what the developers are producing, where you don't want what the robbers produce. Somehow you are saying, it is ok to take what the developers are making, for free. And if the developers didn't want you to have it, they wouldn't be releasing it. But if the developers can't make money off it, they won't produce it. Then where are you?

    How do you show the bank that your idea is "viable?" Yes, if you can PROVE you have a viable idea, you can most definitely get money. But that proof its the hard part.

    Kickstarter is a scam.

    I'm not sure how you get "kickstarter is a scam" out of one person(s) with a kickstarter project made off with the money. That is like say Visa is a scam because some scammer sold you something using your credit card.
    Kickstarter itself isn't a scam. And people aren't trying to advertise kickstarter, but rather the cool product that someone is using kicstarter to push. The same way people don't advertise Paypal or Visa when they say "hey you should buy this cool new product (that can only be purchased using paypal or visa)"

    You do realize this defeats half the purpose of the patent system.
    The patent system is designed to protect the inventor (to encourage them to invent more). Lets assume a little guy events a process to create a widget. He patents the process. Then begins to gather money to start producing the widgets. But that takes, time, maybe several years. Meanwhile daddy warbucks comes along, and builds the widget, because he can afford to.
    According to you, the inventor is owed $0. Because he doesn't have a product to sell (and never will, now that Daddy Warbucks is churning them out

    While your tax dollars may have paid for the uniform, your tax dollars did not pay for the police officers to stand there in the store. Most likely those were off duty officers who were hired by Apple. This happens all the time.

    The other problem is that Apple's UIs really are stylish and attractive. Sure, they cost too much and are basically like electronic prisons, but it's hard to deny that they really know their aesthetics.

    Maybe in hardware... but not in software. The Mac's software is not stylish and attractive, and I find it difficult to use sometimes.

    Ribbon is quite the opposite of inefficient, in terms of finding things and clicking them. Some people claim to be incapable of operating it properly, but I truly do not understand this. It groups and sub-groups in a way similar to a menu

    That is because the ribbon IS a menu. It is one big sticky menu, that never goes away. The problem is, if I show another menu, the items on the first menu are no longer visible. Things that used to be one click away are now two or three.

    Seriously, all of the things you were looking for are on the screen when a document loads... you don't even need to change tabs.

    But if you aren't on the home tab? See, pre-ribbon days, those buttons were ALWAYS up, no matter what menu you were on. The ribbon got rid of toolbars, and is now one big sticky menu.

    How do you get legal access to the search info? Are you saying the police should have access to all the search records to see who to go after? I don't agree that your searches should be a good enough reason to go to a judge to get a warrant.

    When Minority Report first came out in theatres, I was intrigued and went to see it. It's the only movie I've ever walked out on. Why? Because the very idea of being arrested and convicted of a crime you haven't yet convicted pissed me off to the point where I couldn't stand to watch another minute, so I left.

    You DO realize that is the point to a lot of science fiction... to make you think.

    Call me a socialist, but I think saving people, and working as a community to help people through troubled times is more important than catching them after they have committed crimes

    So you want to take away EVERYONE's privacy and personal freedom, just on the off chance you might be able to save a few people?

    And remember, I'm not talking about arresting. I'm talking about investigation.

    I don't care what you are talking about. What I research, read, think about, talk about, is NO one's business. And should not be any grounds for "suspicious" behavior. You know the whole freedom of expression thing.
    Some people are going to say I can't talk about "fire" in a theatre, or talking about "killing the president." Does that mean I can't do research on it, or read about it, or think about it?

    I don't care about the booth babes. I care about women who aren't booth babes and who might want to work in the tech industry. That is why a boycott is needed. Get it?

    You want to boycott the companies that want to hire women in the tech industry?
    Or do you want to boycott the companies that hire booth babes, because of the message that sends to women who want to work in the industry?
    Do you also want to boycott all of the tire and car companies because of the grid girls at the race track? All of the beer companies because of the scantly clad girls on their beer bottles? All of the tool companies because of the girls in their tool calendars? Doritos and GoDaddy and pretty much any other company because they hire hot women for their commercials.?
    What was your point again?

    Dude! The support details are something that you should have had in writing before you even started working on detailed requirements.

    Did you read a different summary than I did? I got the impression he is working on a new contract. He stated normally he does support for 2 months. But this new client wants it fixed forever. He is asking what do other people do?
    Personally I think it depends on the product. How long is the project going to take. A longer project may have a longer tail end to fix issues. A shorter project has a shorter fix time.

    I've always felt the kinetic will make a great party game. It will also do great for things like exercise videos, and personal trainer type games.
    But face it, if people wanted to play sports, they'd go outside and play sports. I play video games because I am not fast enough, dexterous enough, or in shape enough to stand there and participate in the game. I want to sit on the couch and play.
    But its more than that. How long do you want to stand there with your arm held out doing something. Everyone talks about Minority Report were Cruise was waving his hands around in the air. That'll work for all of about 15 seconds. A keyboard words because my arms rest on my desk. The mouse works because my hand rests on the mouse and the arm on my desk. A controller works because my hands have feedback and my arms rest on my lap or couch or knees or somewhere.
    I think kinetic and its ilk are here to stay. BUT it is not a controller for every type of game. party games, dance games, exercise... but everything else give me a good old fashioned controller

    Why should how much time or money I spend on the creation of something, have to do with how long the copyright lasts? An author who spends 50 years writing a novel should enjoy a longer copyright than an author who churns out a better book every few years can only have a shorter length? Seems like that will encourage creators to horde their creations.
    To fix copyright, shorten the term. 25 or 50 years. Allow people like Disney to trademark their characters (on an annual basis for a fee). Sorry you can't use Mickey Mouse, but you can make copies of steamboat willy.

    I don't understand what one person being paid (or not) has to do with another person.... Maybe it is because it doesn't. But, let us say I died before I got my paycheck. Not only would I expect to still get paid, but my beneficiaries would also expect to get paid.

    The cost of tuition, room, board, supplies is estimated to be $25,000 for instate, and $40K for out of state.
    There are scholarships and other programs for SOME students, just like there are for some people in other countries.

    For people who don't know the difference, just Fing google it, or wikipedia it, and the reason why its important is people who like one genre invariably can't stand the other genre and even make comments about how they can't imagine why someone would like the opposite genre.

    Maybe for some people. I for one love all kinds of scifi, and most of the people I know also like all kinds of scifi. In fact I don't know anyone who can't imagine/stand the opposite genre.

    Hard SciFi is not "dark sci fi." It just means that it is more about the science than about the fiction. So how does Prometheus fall into hard sci fi?
