I think a more likely scenario is that the radar gun showed the driver's correct speed, but the cop could not produce evidence that he was certified to use it, so it was not admissible as evidence (which is the way it should be IMHO). That means that the cop's estimate of the speed was off by ~10mph, but even with such a large margin of error is enough to prove "guilt" in the sham that is traffic court.
The whole thing stinks, and makes me regret moving back to Ohio. Some things are truly backwards here.
Unless they start using solid state hard drives (which are still pretty thick) and there's some revolutionary breakthrough that allows them to shrink the optical drives even more (9mm thickness in the macbooks vs. [i think] 13 or 14mm in the ibooks/powerbooks) there is *no* way they can make these things less than about an inch thick.
I'd be happy to see it happen though. Then again, the damn things are already hard enough to work on.
I have a macbook (not pro) with a spare battery. If I turn off bluetooth, don't use the optical drive, and turn my LCD brightness down at least halfway I can get about 4.5 hours with my battery. I can close the lid and swap out the battery, open it back up and it's back to the desktop (saves to RAM when closed, if battery is removed it saves to HD). Not quite 10 hours, but 9 will do just fine.
Interesting that your response was essentially "nyah nyah I live in a republican state" (if this were fark, I'd imagine a "suck it libs" after that) rather than "no I wouldn't vote for politicians that run up deficits, kill off our rights, evade the constition, take bribes, molest pages, and lie about it all"
I tried vista (rc1) on my home PC... 1gb RAM, athlon 2400+ processor, SATA drive, geforce fx 5200 graphics card. This system is usually a XP system, and Vista ran like a dog on it. Like an aged, arthritic, dying, mangy dog. XP runs fine on the same system.
The $100 Mac with OS X would beat a $100 PC with Vista any day, and you know it.
I work for a small retail/repair shop in a somewhat rural town in Ohio.
We had a customer come in with a laptop. Brand new. He said his previous laptop was hacked in a large town on the west coast, by russian hackers. Said a beautiful woman in a coffee shop asked to use, and then infected it with a virus (in his words, "porn started popping up on the screen and they knew what I was doing"). So he ditched that laptop and bought this new one. He's now living in a local hotel. He's been in several times, he had us install an ABSURD amount of privacy software on the machine (the full McAfee suite, some browsing software that routes through an anonymous proxy, etc). I didn't have the heart/inclination to tell him he could get the same things for free with things like torpark. So we do all that for him, he brings the laptop in like a week later for us to format and reinstall everything.
He also made me show him how to change the MAC address of his wifi card, then he made me show him how to disable the wifi, because he wasn't going to use it since they might find out what he was doing. He bought a router/firewall combo to connect to the ethernet at the hotel and then called us trying to get help setting it up.
He is also very loud, obnoxious, and has a tendency to use profanity when other customers are in the store. He also pulled up a picture of a gun on a webpage when he came in once, and then proudly announced "I just bought one of these today!" Needless to say, we put up the notice forbidding concealed weapons.
I'm thinking that if he comes in again we're going to ban him.
You know, I've run in to similar problems with the two previous versions of ubuntu when it comes to hard drive partitioning/formatting during the install.
It seems the best way to fix it is to use something like boot&nuke, completely wipe the drive, and then start from scratch. Seems odd, but it fixed the problem for me.
Yeah except it IS on topic. You see, this is not a christian vs. non-christian issue. Pretty much all major scientists in the field accept that global warming is a FACT. There may be other things we haven't figured out, such as how much of an impact we're having, but we KNOW that the ice caps are melting at accelerated rates, we KNOW that temperatures show an upward trend.
Regarding the christian vs. non-christian thing, I am not a christian, not a bible literalist, but I *do* try to follow the teachings of christ. If you truly believe the bible should be taken literally, then you believe the world is flat and the moon emits light. There is nothing wrong with saying that these things are demonstrably FALSE, because they ARE. It is not an issue of faith conflicting with science, it's really an issue of people not properly holding up their end of the stewardship of the earth. If you really want to talk about the genesis account of creating, let's talk about how we are to be stewards of the world we have.
2+2 will never equal 7, even if the bible said it does (like how it says pi = 3). Saying that these things are wrong should not lessen faith, it should make us realize that we are learning more about the universe in which we live.
It has nothing to do with christian vs. non-christian. The OP said "It isn't fair for people like me who are christians to be told that they're outright wrong."
That's bullshit. If you're wrong, you're wrong. It has nothing to do with your faith.
It is NOT being accepting to give all viewpoints equal weight. If you told me that gravity was created by invisible gnomes pouring out anti-wedgies that held me down to earth by the seat of my pants, I'd have no problem telling you that you're an idiot for believing it.
"Creationism is a completely valid viewpoint, and so is evolution. They're both *possible*."
One is way more possible than the other. I'll take the one that has a mountain of verifiable scientific evidence, thanks.
"It isn't fair for people like me who are christians to be told that they're outright wrong."
If you think that 2+2=7 I am not being an asshole by telling you that you're misinformed. Also, life isn't fair. Welcome to reality.
I vote for the Democrat Party all the time, but I cannot condone this guy's behavior.
How do you know he's a democrat? Also, he's not a politician.
His actions have left us more vulnerable to terrorists around the world since they now know how we are tapping them.
See subject.
Is it any wonder there are many of us who are leaving the Democrat Party for the stronger on defense Republican Party.
Good riddance?
I didn't like it when George Bush barely defeated Gore in 2000, but Bush really stuck it to the terrorists when he invaded Afghanistan and liberated Iraq after those animals attacked us on September 11th.
First off, GWB didn't defeat Gore in 2000. That fact is well known among anyone willing to look at the facts, and a highly partisan SCOTUS decision landed him the job he still has to this day.
The worst thing we could ever bring to the terrorists is a living breathing working Democracy. And we've done it, look at Iraq; it's well on its way to thriving after being saved from the Islamofacist grip of Saddam Hussein.
Your use of the phrase "islamofacist" (sic) betrays the fact that you are, at best, a dittohead and obviously a troll. Instead of actually regurgitating what pundits say, try using your head once a year or so. To label Saddam an islamofascist is incredidly misinformed, and once again it shows that you are not an independent thinker. While I hardly think Saddam was anywhere close to good, the fact was that he was a highly secular leader and the *REAL* islamic fundamentalists hate him. Iraq is more a theocracy now than it was when we invaded in March 03.
Fellow Democrats
While your use of the phrase "fellow democrats" is HIGHLY dubious, let's examine what you've said in your post:
Democrats are weak on defense (straw man argument) Bush really "gave it to the terrorists" after Sept 11. How? By doing a half assed invasion of Afghanistan and launching an illegal war in Iraq? By holding people without charges or legal counsel? By *spying* on Americans, in direct violation of the constitution? By his neverending attempts to expand executive powers under the guise of protection and war-time authority? Yeah, he's really giving it to the terrorists... If by "it" you mean our freedoms. If you are a democrat I am the reincarnation of Charlemagne.
I know we are supposed to vote like our fathers, but our fathers never had to consider living in a world where death could come at any minute from the hands of animals wuch as the ones threatening us today.
Yes, because never before in the history of mankind have you had to worry about somone else causing your death. Before 9/11, we all got postcards telling us when and how we will die.
You use an awfully broad brush, and the overall quality of your painting suffers as a result.
No wonder you posted AC, I wouldn't want my name associated with that kind of drivel either.
$10 or 20 billion (I've lost count of exactly how big the Gates Foundation is) to buy the hearts and minds of slashdot. At least we do not come cheap
Hell, I'd sell my heart for about $500, and my mind for about $1000. Package deal'll get you both for $1200. You listening, Bill? Send a check for $1200 and you can have my heart *AND* my mind.

Yeah, she's too busy being called a trollup and a cunt by John.

I worked on mac laptops full time at my last job.

Yeah, some "stupid niggor" stole it I'm sure.
Might want to learn to spell before you start insulting others.
Signed,
Proud, non "niggor" hating, white guy. Newsflash: white people steal shit too.
as long as the tubes(teak?) belong to a page!

Ha, are you kidding?

The suspect is not odd. Quite normally, really.
You forgot 4 = ???
And 5 should be 5 = Profit!
For every 1 person that gives a shit, there are 10 more that are too stupid or self-involved to care.
But lori's so hot!

ah yes, now I remember. It has been a long time since I have used the older style... I knew there was a reason I didn't like them, that was it.
on most US keyboard, that key is above the enter (return) key, assuming it is the rectangular shape, rather than the L shape.
Can't remember where that key is on keyboards with the l shaped enter key...
omg but then the terrrsts would win... ;-)

Without question, this is the only way to go:
;-)
Lego USB flash drive... that will give you near-infinite geek points (which can now be exchanged for frequent flier miles!)
For a small fee, I will drink the whiskey for you... giving you a perfectly usable emptpy bottle! You may then mod to your hearts content!

To the OP: sorry, I'm a cheap whore.
You mean that a game titled "Hulk Smash" lacks subtlety? With a name like that, I thought Bruce Banner would be reading Shakespeare or something... ;-)
ARG! You beat me to that by like 2 seconds... Now I will bask in "redundant" moderation...
Damn. Foiled again. That's a whopper of a good show, man! (or would it be WOPR?)
