The antiwar group has doing what they can to broadcast unfavorable news. To the point of regurgitating exxagerations, lies, and untruths themselves. Neither side is more dastardly than the other.
Ethanol blends pollute more than fossil fuels. This isn't green, its brown. Ethanol was never an environment saving solution, it is a supply and demand solution.
This the problem with all this "green hysteria" every solution implemented is WORSE than fossil fuels alone. (Just check out California's record for screwing things up by trying to make things better.)
Don't buy DRM if you don't like it. Besides traditional media like 78s, 33s, 45s, 8-track have all become useless due to changes in technology. Additionally, those formats PLUS cassettes and CD wear out or become unusable over time. At least in this case you can burn it to an audio CD which will give you better quality than copying any of these other media formats. And you can copy this CD perpetually without a loss of quality.
The 9:16 widescreen lends more to the desktop concept. Finally I can put things side by side, and see other apps when I am working in the foreground. I don't know if Windows users have the same experience, but on a Mac its the equivalent of having two screens.
You could also say that computer users are SAVING $60 billion...
However, having worked in retail, I know that these loss projections include profit in addition to overhead and labor. The there maybe no actual loss since there is no actual investment by the company into open source development.
Not to mention the value of innovation that open source adds to the industry. I think a clear example of the gain of open source is the recent Creative feud with the independent driver programmer. His labor and results had no cost to the corporation. Ultimately, the open source drivers were *adding value* to the non-functioning and disabled hardware.
"An XO spokesman said that the company does not engage in this practice and that any ad-injection linked to its network is probably being done by a "downstream" service provider that is purchasing network capacity from XO."...I know people at XO and they say this isn't their policy.
With smart phones and mini computers becoming popular, borrowing wi-fi is going to become more and more common. I know a guy with an iPhone who connects where ever he can. I don't have a problem with this. He's not downloading gigabytes of data and he moves from one signal to the other frequently.
I think 100% illegal is the wrong way to go. Your neighbor downloading movies on your signal is bad. A guy passing by on the sidewalk checking email is harmless. And each case should be appraised.
At sometime in the future, for a metropolitan area to be considered modern, it will have to have some degree of free wi-fi. Until then, we have Fon http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FON
Nah, I've noticed than many articles passing though Slashdot these days contain this type of confusion. I wouldn't be surprised if the author is just plain ignorant.
I don't know if people are trying to sensationalize things or they are just plain ignorant. Oklahoma didn't put SQL queries in the URL, some lame contracted programmers did. Furthermore, its difficult to imagine that state officials would understand faux pas to even recognize the error.
Where's the proof that global warming is the cause?
On a tangent, I am no climatologist, but it seems that if global warming is really effecting the crops then a a region that previously could not grow these crops is emerging.
It's just a shame you can't share your playlist with friends.
I guess I am just smarter than you. I can stream my iTunes bought songs AND CD bought songs to my friends and to other rooms (Which the the guy who posted is infuriated about. The article is not about streaming to friends or over the 'net. But you failed to understand that too.)
And if you serious bought $12,000 worth of DRM protected music AND you dislike DRM, your simply a fool. But I think you are exaggerating.
"On the other hand, the fact that DRM makes something like this necessary is truly infuriating."
Apple's iTunes let you share your playlist to several computers. This solution is completely unnecessary. Keep in mind DRM only came about because you'd rather steal media than buy it.
Personally, I more likely to watch a movie based on genre, producer, director, writers, actors... Especially with plot specifics like era and technology.
How can you say this? How do you know what they did and didn't say? Sound's you have a bias against Apple because your opinion sounds subjective.
For all we know Apple thought they were getting hardware in their spec. Look at any industry - especially government suppliers and you'll see its the component manufacturers lying rather than the gadget-vendor.
In my area can choose from a dozen DSL providers, numerous dial up providers, and 1 cable provider. Then there are the wireless satellite providers...
I am failing to see the monopoly.
If there is a problem - its the rate charged by the wire owners such as AT&T. The only I can think of is state-owned infrastructure. However, that would be a dismal mistake since the Democrats and Republicans can't run any department of government efficiently nor adapt to new technology quickly.
Slashdot is every bit propaganda for a dozen or so issues. We shoud not be offened by this. Especially if some of us constantly do anti- military and US propaganda.
There are plenty of legal-distribution sites for independents and corporate music that enable the consumer to recommend and exchange music. Sadly, the average person likes being told what's good, hip and popular.
Considering that the general impression is that the RIA really doesnt know who's committing the crime, these lawsuits seem frivolous. I think automatic compensation for innocent defendants is the only thing that would encourage the RIAA to do a better job on their end.

Go back to punch ballots. Require chads to be removed by the voter for the selections to be valid. ITs really that simple.
Technology in th evoting process only makes it easier to hack.

eBay charges your list, PayPal charges you per transaction. They are forcing another fee on on us. It could aslo be considered anti competitive.

The lawsuit should be aimed at the manufacturer.

Stop making excuses to justify theft.
I agree - who ever posted this is expressing some kind of anti-American feelings be exaggerating the gaff.
You guys already steal the music now you are going to complain about the price!? $1 per song is just fine.
