  7. I believe that it's generally accepted that : Haswell -> 110% IvyBridge -> 113% SandyBridge -> 125% Nehalem not counting special cases such as AVX2. Hence, a 4.4GHz 4770K = 5.5GHz i7 920, or ~137%.

  8. If the trend keeps up, we'll get a 1-3% IPC improvement, and even less overclocking headroom with Broadwell. It's absolutely disappointing that after waiting ~5 years, a fully overclocked 4770K (~4.4GHz) is only 1.37x as fast as a fully overclocked i7 920 (~4GHz).

    Nothing wrong with a high GPA (4.0 undergrad, 3.9 PhD), as long as you don't play games to get it. I loaded up on classes, took the hardest profs, learned a ton, and established a solid foundation for future learning.

    Not true. I installed a then top-of-the-line PIoneer Z110BT in my car back in 2009. Still works fine to this day (albeit upgraded via software to a Z140BH).

    I realize that this is Slashdot and that it tends to cater more to those in the IT field, but the H1B process does work. While definitely problematic in the IT field (with jackasses like WiPro muddying the waters), I don't seem to see much of an issue in a lot of other fields (eg. engineering). None of my numerous colleagues are paid below par or unfairly taken advantage of due to their immigration status. Most of them have advanced training right here in the US (masters and a couple of PhDs).

    Fucking stupidity. In a lot of cases, the American public is the one paying to educate foreign grad students (stipend + tuition - federal research grants - joe + jane public). So, they'd rather lose the talent that you paid for to China / India / some other country?
