if everybody was able to only get the channels they actually watch... the expenses for both the companies that produce the content, as well as distribute the content would be the same. so unless only a very small percentage of the subscribers get a la carte.. prices would remain roughly the same. the cost to make a channel remains X... its just that your share of X is now much greater, espescially for a non-popular channel. it is through the current method of "everybody pays a little for everything".. that there can even be an everything.. if people only paid for what they wanted.. a LOT of stuff would go away and only the top dozen or so channels could probably hope to survive.
I would say that this has nothing to do with monopoly and a lot to do with the prices going back up to what they should be, with the cost of technology and all. It takes a LOT of processing power to decrypt and play an HD disk so it is understandable that at this point the hardware would be expensive. also, there are a lot of R&D costs to recover that were spent in developing the blu-ray players.
over time as the technology gets cheaper and more units get sold, prices will go down with competition.
there should be more information out there pertaining to how to do accurate data backups and hard drive imaging, where a customer can easily revert their hard drive back to a "clean" state within minutes if somehting goes wrong, and being able to restore their my documents folder as well, making getting a clean fast computer easy again, instead of having to give microsoft MORE MONEY for a CRAPPY PRODUCT!
if a store doesn't comply with apples pricing than apple will probably not sell their products to that store anymore. companies do have a right to decide who their customers are, as long as its not based solely on race/sex/religion/etc.
you forgot the part about the fact that the disk doesnt have the nice movie design on the top of it, nor the fact that you get a case with the movie.. now if you can buy a few movies.. burn em.. and shop while you wait.. (mayby like dropping off a prescription of w/e at walgreens) and these movies are several dollars cheaper at elast than their "normal" counterparts, this deal could be pretty good, espescially is the library to choose from is much greater than what is normally stocked on the shelves
I would disagree with you on "not because they are the biggest file sharers".. people at colleges/universitys generally have access to LOTS of bandwith, and are generally well educated, so they have the ability and knowledge to want to aquire content illegally, also, how u mentioned they have the least money, well of course that plays a part.. if you have no money.. but u want music and movies.. wat better way than to download it? im not saying its right to do, but it makes the most sense for a poor college student.
feel free to buy just the plain phone, you can get these alot of different places. noone makes you get a 2 year plan, but ALOT of people enjoy saving $200-300 if they plan on having a cell phone for a couple years anyway. that is why the 2 year commitments are so popular. and plus, alot of companies allow you to cancel within 30 days if not satisfied and you can get most all your money back, no early cancellation charges, etc.
no no no!! your wrong as well... Fear -> Anger -> Hate -> Dark Side -> Disfigurement -> Ownage -> A big bad empire with your son trying to take you out!
while the domain name itself would be quite valuable initially.. if the content that replaces the defunct website isnt appealing to the origional audience.. they would quickly find their videos somewhere else.. kinda like if slashdot was bought out and replaced with a video gaming only website.. some people would stay.. but most would go elsewhere.. as their interested in the "nerd" aspect of/.
most people get along just fine with 100mb because 1. the internet is the primary use of the network.. which comes nowhere near 100mb of bandwith.. and im sure gigabit is pretty widely used in very high bandwith environments.. its just.. why use a more expensive technology when there is no need for it (as in most home and small office environments)
Trademark only applies to competing products.
If i created a drink and called it Powerade that would be bad as it woudl confuse customers.
a mobile unit that provides these things wont exactly be competing with an energy drink.
i totally agree with you.. asome additional benefits of being able to chat instead of calling in.. is that 1. you can use the restroom or go get a drink or somethin to eat without waiting for the support person to finally pick up the phone. 2. you don't have to wait on hold, tieing up your phone line.. you just wait till the guy IM's you in the little window for the service. 3. no communication barriers and accents to get around. 4. the poor support guy doesnt have to deal with getting yelled at.. just cussed at by an upset customer.
I personally have had great service with newegg using their online chat support.. i needed to get a rebate form that i could not find on their website.. and in just a few minutes the guy gave me the link and everything went well.
I could imaging chatting to be much cheaper than phone support as well... since one support person could help multiple customers at a time and the support center would not have to pay for nearly as many phone lines either.
200 light years is not big in a distance manner.. however when your talking about the SIZE of something.. 200 light years is pretty damn big. that is what.. a quadrillion miles?
of course it makes sense... if something is free to you.. why does it matter much if something happens and it doesnt work? but once you plunk down $100 for something and it doesnt work you'll get quite upset as you had to work hard for that money used to purchase the item and you sure as heck expected it to work correctly.
they could just do it in a way similar to how some banks use debit cards.. and that is with an "authorization".. just a check on the card to make sure the amount/card is valid but doesnt actually charge the person anything
underage people have always gotten their hands on cigarets and alcohol without the parents permission.. they have and will continue to get ahold of games their parents do not want them to play... this whole scandle is kind of rediculous.. considering how much actual porn one can fine in about 10 seconds online...
While copyright infringement of course is not theft.. it does seem to be pretty equal to sneaking into a movie theater or a concert without paying. That is illegal, isnt it? Both sneaking into a theater and illegitimatly obtaining music are pretty similar, and while they do not take anything from the artist or copyright holder, it is obtaining a "service" free of charge that would ordinarily carry a cost to "experience" the content.
disclaimer: i am not one of those people that is against illegally obtaining music... i'm just trying to make a point for arguments sake.
remember how google will sometimes take back the money from websites that google thinks had "fradulent" clicks on its page.. yet still charge the advertisers for those clicks... if anything.. that is pretty stinkin evil right there
to totally ban them from having a facebook profile is a very restrictive kind of thing to impose upon a student. i can understand if they monitor the profiles or force the students to keep them in a reasonably "family friendly" manner, but to totally keep them from it? that's kinda stupid. Facebook does AMAZING things for finding people at college. say, one of ur buddies mentions somebody's name.. and ur wonderni who that is.. its very easy to just search the name on facebook and viola.. you found out who that person is... mayby thats' why at a lot of colleges 1/3-1/2 of the students have one of those profiles?
I'm not sure if the drivers ed thing makes much of a difference. Attitude is a much bigger problem in america. Driving is not taking anywhere near as sereously as it should. Probably because we do it so often with no incident. Eating, Makeup, Cell phones.. family fights.. all those things go on in a car.. as well as people that drive drunk.
a couple years ago i totalled my car getting off I-75 because the car hydroplaned on wet roads.. accidents like that occur all the time.. and im not sure wat anyone could of done or any kind of drivers ed could of helped prevent those kinda things....just an idea
