    problem is there using PR reviews to derive the alogorithm and PR revies are adjusted to fit all the time so the data is false.

    I have actualy had to do this a few times back in the day at BHRA on our PDP 11/40 using the switches on the front panel - which was esier than trying to use a terminal to type in the boot loader (tried it onece on a 11/03 and coundn't get it to work)

    Realy the federal govenment needs to take control of telcoms (like the FCC does for radio) - its stupid to have each little state/town do its own thing for both mobile and fixed telephany.

    You might get some progress if you had Local Loop Unbudeling and real competition.

    have you not seen any of the soft synths avaible now ok you have to use a seriously grunty computer per section to get the polyphony needed. One review I saw sugested a basic setup would be one pc each for Strings Brass woodwind and percussion respectivly.

    And there are now soft synths for vocals CANTOR and Vocaloid MIRIAM for example.

    There have been loads of kit cars for decades. Rangeing from cheap and chaerfuul to 90% plus repicas of claasics like a GT40 or a 427 cobra.

    Ok buying a full race engine ain't going to be cheap nor will insurance.

    On this week in tech someone commented that this new stack had a lot of identical bugs bugs that had been fixed years ago in the older stacks.

    Actualy Google is a Public company (though with a dodgy share structure)

    Thats part of the problem google faces some companies (normaly those in monopoly positions or thos that are politicaly sensative) do get treated as public utility (phone companys's for example)

    Google will some day (within 4-5 years) - be looking at an antitrust lawsuit

    Thats being activly worked on

    There is some reaserch going on using gumstix (tiny pc's running linux) to control flocks of flying things (small helicopters in this case)

    Grid swarms

    they are also trying to do this with larger outdoor RC planes "just need to find a safe place to do this" is there comment :-)

    Erm its a digital signal so going to Network enginners is a good idea the latests draft standard is 10g with a 100M range on twisted pair

    Not sure your anlogy with TCP/IP makes sense  TCP/IP is layer 3 Ethernet is layer two and only has error detection.

    Also HDTV broadcasts are more like UDP

    Peter assumes that real MI is actualy possible - I used to joke when I worked for BT we would realy know this had happened when CSS (BT's Billing system and one of the Largest IBM systems in the world) Woke up and applied to join the Union.

    Yeh

    M&P (mangerial and professional) grades tend get excluded from some labour laws in the Uk.

    The optout does get abused but technicaly its for those people that define their own hours of work. (lawyers doctors directors)

    I used to work for BT and we had self directed hours tecnicaly - though we did have OT and TOIL provisons.

    I suspect that IBM got done for treating "saleried" employyes as efectivly hourly paid - ie refusing TOIL.

    Having this self directed status is interestings as its one of the main indicfators as to which class you are.
