I used to work at the Leading UK Charity call center and we always told people (if they asked) how much we got paid per call (and we wern't on commision) we also had the stats on the percentages for each charity/campaign availible.
Is there no equivelent of the Charity Commision (the Charity regulators) in the States
Yeh
I saw this on Shades and Telecom Gold (Dialcom) there is eaven a book about it written by Indra Sinha - that is based on a lot of real stuff (i have a mention in the book under my TG handle)

I also went to the (Internal) Shades wake - in E Block when they shutdown Shades finaly
I'me not surprised at the Ilegalty - just the dumb way she handled it the lawyers didn't say it was leagal - they used lawyer speak that whilst saying what the client wanted to hear - screamed don't touch this with a barge pole.
You did work out who the Guy is that resigned is not some jobs for the boys buggins turn guy, The guy can proabaly ring up ANYONE in the valley - and get a meeting at 30 mins notice.
they could still dismiss on the grounds that there was a total breakdown in trust or NCI
Also It would look good at the moment in ploitical terms for the attounry general to have a high profile case (is he a dem or rep) and could proably get the PI to turn states eveidence
From my view the Chair(an emplyee of HP) stood up in front of a large number of whitnesses and said
I have commited Gross misconduct by:
1 comisioning/conspiring to conduct a criminal offence
2 voilated a large number of internal procedures
Now thats an open and shut case She sould have been suspened prior to an investigation and then dismissed for Gross misconduct - as any other Employee of HP would have.
One day the showed us a video about the importance of data security - they showd a reconstruction of someone asking a mate to use CSS (the BT Uber Billing system) to track down a persons new address.
The sobering punch line at the end is this actualy happend and it was an Ex who then used the info to find and kill his ex wife.
CSS has security up the wazoo - if your were a senior deveolper on CSS or similar systems you had to be PV'd (Postivly Vetted the second level of security clearance) - and Sec ID would be all over someone doing somthing naughty - and throw the book at them
"Turns out the article says the ministry of education wants to allow schools to use all material available on the internet and be exempt from copyright that way. Guess someone didn't think about warez there."
Hmm - may be I could play the is it "because im oirish" card of course id have to roll around the office with a six pack of guinness singing danny boy. the boys behind the wire or the sash
erm doesn't any one know what the diference between being "Fired" and "Made redundant" is which is what happened to the RS people.
Fired is wher you get canned for being caught shagging the bose's secratery (Or the boss) on the board room table - being caught with you hand in the till etc.
Redundacy/laid off is where your job no longer exists - though laid off off implies that if things pick up you get your job back (not 100% sure of the US terminology)
"We're about to see another revolution, which is in network adapters -- that we [will] talk directly to [them] from application level. "
From an Old skool OSI background I am astounded that someone has said this and this guy is supposed to be a freakin player not some pimply faced youth.
There are very good reasons for HAL's and Abstraction Layers.
Some people commented that its moving some of the stack onto the NIC freeing the CPU to do more useful work - but the problem is OS suppliers will still have to cater for the old style NIC's as the industry is so cutthroat - cheap commodity components will cut the 1 or 2 $ that such an improved card might cost.
Look at the cuts made in the later versions of the Linksys WRT54g router
Hmm
So no HD on PCs so you dont get the ecomy of scale that producing millions of drives for pcs gets you so the prices of hd/bluray players stays high.
Well I would imagine that various layers crawled out of woodwork and aprached him
And if you'd been argably screwed by you employer - Id want a lawyer and I bet id get a better class of lawyer;-)
Its interesting if he folowed the rules and got aproval AOL might be in trouble in the courts
Yeh some where (I may have lent them out) i have a pair of 1948 GPO handbooks for technicians. Which describes the technology?
Including how to build your lead acid batteries on site (48 hours on battery power was required) and the technical details for the pneumatic tubes used in manual exchanges to send tickets up to the trunk floor
I have also hear some old timers war stores one i liked was about the guy who when painting in an exchange put a paint can on top of the main bussbars - which then shorted - an explosive way of painting a room.
I once had to help install some sun servers in an exchange (CAPITAL) and walking around - the building most of the old stuff had been taken out - was quite eerie lots of clicking and odd buzzes.
CAPITAL is/was one of the main exchanges in the uk its actually in Edinburgh not London

Indeed The META keywords tag was so abused and so google and the others just ignore them.
A fact that a lot of webmasters havnt realised yet the Description and the geo location tags are usefull though.
Well they do limit Race cars the new regs for F1 for example and even more so in the Indycar in terms of what they do the the engines etc.
The weight limit for bikes is for safety I belive to stop a bike breaking up - which could be terminal on a fast descent.
Recumbant bikes
Yeh they aren't allowed - there are very strict rules set by the UCI as to what is allowed - they can make a lighter bike but there is a minimum weight so TDF bikes are not as optimised as they could be.

why wasn't the data encrypted
I don't see what changing your NIC will give you a worthwhile decrease in ping times.
maybe in a LAN party but I doubt they are running gigabit networks with top of the line cisco Gig switches with a 10g Core at the average LAN party.

Well as a practising SEO Not all links are equal a link from Slashdot or the BBC is worth way more than a link from my blog

There are 3 main types of frame fowarding
1 Store and forward
Reads the entire frame checks it then sends
2 Cut through
Starts foward as soon as posible ie after it reads the destination MAC address
Fragment free
As cut through but it reads a short way into the frame to detect errors (most errors happen very early in the frame)
Ah I see now I have seen the Playboy pics - Pity she didn't do any in the puka Bunny outfit though.
Stripper? Did CC have a big fanbase amongst sex workers ;-) or did you mean shipper
