    I don't think you know what it means to have a PI licence. It simply means that you have gone to the police station, paid a small fee, got finger printed and certified that you don't have a criminal record. Which I think isn't altogether a bad thing.

    one could almost imagine that they are thinking about what their customers really want. Some people may actually want a useful web server with a MySQL, Oracle or BerkeleyDB database instead of MS Jet. This is so nice, I can almost recommend them to my clients.

    This is a serious problem actually. Corel WordPerfect has much better archive value than MS Word, which is one reason why many lawyers still prefer WordPerfect.

    Sure you can do a "middle click": Press both ends of the mouse button bar. It is very thin and flexes nicely.

    Yup, WinME was significantly better than Win98. I think that a lot of WinME's problems were due to bad hardware. For example, back then USB chips were notoriously bad and lots of people unfairly/ignorantly blamed Windows for that while the chips themselves were buggy.

    I did some manual work on the construction of a synchrotron for this around 1980. I was a student and filed copper pieces to specification by hand for some moolah - I guess most Slashdotters weren't even born yet...

    The problem is that USAsians votes on every gawddamm thing on the same day. The rest of the world has the good sense to have separate ballots for separate levels of government.

    It scales perfectly with population count. India is the world's largest democracy and they still use mostly paper ballots.

    Poor sod. Windows on an Eee PC must really suck. Mine works great with the default Debian Etch. I just made a few small tweaks to IceWM and also fixed KDE so it can run as well. At the moment, the Eeep is hooked to my HiFi playing music streamed from my server in the basement.

    Well, damn, Windows ME was pretty bad too at the time you are talking of and before that the Comodore Vic 20 was a real POS too... Modern versions of Linux and Mandriva 2008 are pretty good and rock solid and I'm writing this on an Eee PC with Debian Etch - no issues what so ever - it just works.
