  1. Re:Straight from thier lawyers mouths on Comcast Continues to Block Peer to Peer Traffic · · Score: 2, Interesting

The funny thing is, I got this exact same response in reply to a question about them blocking an UPLOAD from me. Then I replied to say that wasn't really my question, could I get their form letter for uploads and I got a form letter back that said I was asking about a feature that wasn't supported. Huh?

It's obvious their tech support is not read. I called and I also got a load of bull about downloads that sounded scripted. I understand about downloads, but how is that stopping my uploads?

I'm switching providers to someone who actually listens to a question before they give you an answer.

  2. They Throttled Me on Comcast Targets Unlicensed Anime Torrenters · · Score: 2, Interesting

I know this is kind of off topic, but apparently I've been blacklisted by Comcast for just uploading a hard drive back-up to Mozy.com.

I sent them an email and requested to know the bandwidth limits so I can stick to them from now on, instead of them just throttling me without warning.

We'll see how that goes over. I'm expecting a form letter back.

I once got banned from a message board for posting a photo and description my caged bird (cockatiel) and I once got kicked from a chat by a bot for discussing the career of Richard Van Dyke (aka "Dick").

Nothing is stopping it but if it were my spider, I'd program it to stop when it hit an error so it wouldn't waste time and processor power to spirder pages I wasn't going to index anyway. I think indexing a site you've already "caught" as spam or non-indexable is a waste of resources.

I was under the impression that they told the webmaster the reason they were delisted, they just didn't tell the webmaster the specific pages that the reason pertained to. Like "Your site has been delisted for hidden links to non-topical sites" instead of "Your site has been delisted for hidden links to non-topical sites on pages index.html, intro.html." etc. To me, that's a webmaster job. Google did their job on their end. What if the site had hundreds of pages of non-topical links? What if Google spiders just stopped at the first one they indexed (as they should). Should google be in charge of going through this guy's site and telling him exactly where the problems are? They are a search engine, not a website security firm. People are getting lazier everyday and everyone expects someone else to do their dirty work for them. People need to take some responsibility and stop whining.

I agree. Reminds me of Woot (woot.com). The crap people will buy just because they perceive it to be a deal is astonishing. They can read a review that says it is junk and they'll still buy it. Boggles the mind. Look at the day after Thanksgiving. How many crappy things that NOBODY wants will people buy on Black Friday? If you write "sale" on the ticket, it's going to be bought.

  7. Herbie was nuts on VW Raises the Bar for Self-Driving Vehicles · · Score: 1

Have the people at VW not seen the movie at all? Herbie accelerated at the wrong times, didn't steer properly, would do all sorts of things that should have gotten his human passengers killed. Not my ideal driving machine. Pontiac is the one who needs to be developing self driving automobiles. A car like KITT is way better than Herbie. Too bad David Hasselhoff is busy almost killing himself shaving (or that good?).
