Why on earth would you want your monitors to not be flush with each other? You want to have to keep moving your mouse across 10 inches of empty air before it appears on the next screen? And you -can- lay your monitors out vertically and horizontally in a grid in XP/Vista too...
UltraMon has vista support now.. matches up with the main monitor taskbar perfectly. Also, I never use the other features besides smart taskbar- in fact I just run ultramontaskbar.exe directly to save memory:)
It's more like the difference between a corvette and a custom job.. the corvette costs far more than its worth, works well with good performance. It's a designer item, and that appeal only lasts while its vanilla. But the custom job you build from the ground up, with the community writing every scrap of code (you putting in every single part), and you can end up with a perfectly-tuned monster that will smoke the corvette. And the point is that the worthwhile part's not driving- it's building. So the corvette buyers totally miss out, and the custom guys have no taboo against tinkering because they're not afraid of changing a perfect little designer item to something that's not Popular (TM).
Microsoft is asserting its stranglehold on the real solution to the multiple desktops problem- excellent multiple physical monitor support. Get a nice big second monitor and install UltraMon.. you'll be totally unable to go back to mere "multiple desktops"
Vista's definitely a step forward from XP, especially on the backend. They've really gone all-out on the "hybrid kernel" idea and it really works to keep things stable and organized. It's certainly prettier than Gnome:/ For programming and the command line, give me bash. For anything graphical at all, I'll take vista any day. Linux just doesn't have a mature desktop environment available, and that's the point of a graphical interface! We'll see how KDE4 turns out..
How is this a bad patent? They're basically saying "pay us this fee and you're free to use any of our 900 billion patents in your own work". Sounds like they're opening it up.
If valve goes out of business, they will unlock all content control for all games. See this official forum post.
If valve cuts off your access to data and you're stuck without a CD, you can just back it up. Steam includes a handy feature that lets you burn a DVD or set of CDs (or just keep the archive files on a hard drive) from any steam game. If you lose your data then just pop in the DVD and it automatically copies the game data. Since it's steam, and games are downloaded as big archives requiring no 'installation' (all settings and cache and things are mapped to the filesystem, and game files have their own virtual filesystem within the archives), it just instantly works after copying. You still need to decrypt it with a key from the server but again see the above post, they can just disable the authentication.
You can install any purchased game on an unlimited number of machines. A lot of people give out their steam information to their friends, because everyone can play! You're limited to 1 multiplayer game at a time, but you could all be playing a single player game offline and steam doesn't even care.
Did that just completely go over your head? The point is that cisco probably made every router and switch in their networks, and they could theoretically destroy the brazilian economy with the flick of a switch (if Cisco put backdoors in the hardware), so brazil is crazy for taking such extreme action.
Brazil law enforcement frustrated by the inoperability of the nation-wide VoIP network. US officials will recieve notice by pony express in approximately 7 months.

If anything in the slashdot comments can still hurt his feelings then he doesn't read them often enough.. in fact if anything on the internet can still hurt his feelings then he's just a pansy
Got to the point where you're avoiding cameras and every time you go around the corner a camera sees you. I tried various things to get past but it was just stupid, there was nothing to do. Tried various game guides, none of them had anything to say about it. So I'm not particularly fond of SS2 and I burn inside every time someone praises it.. I have a special hatred for video games that have a f'(x)=infinity learning curve and stump you after 9 seconds of playing. It's just not fun..
What is he whining about? Valve is doing this as a service to their customers.. granted it's kind of a ripoff since they cancelled Black Box, but allowing customers to give away duplicate programs that they bought through Steam is a great idea. If you bought it on disk originally, there's nothing keeping you from giving it you your friend (as long as it's not multiplayer)
Yeah, the jury only awarded $9,250 per song- if it had been the full amount permitted by law, it would have run as high as 3 and a half MILLION. The jury was being merciful with what it had to work with- blame the law here, not the jury
Yeah right like you had six graphics cards in 1991.

The inexplicably single-button mouse? That's a "boner" (...) but apple fans swear by it for some reason

Guess they don't televise house of representatives election debates O_O

You mean how captivating and beautiful the language is? Or do you mean that it takes hamlet 900 lines to say "u r hot"?
The difference is of course that drug kingpins, top brass, and violent gangs are actually doing something illegal.
The MPAA is going after the organizers of people, not the people who are actually doing things illegal. Cue grandparent post.

Alternate universes?
Only in the Old Testament >.> During the crusades they hadn't gotten the New Testament translated yet .
From vinyl?!
You are kidding. Quake was unplayable after the source was released. People could compile in their own hardcoded aimbots!

I wonder if microsoft will, like the game, continue to offer "your last chance" when you have 10 tanks surrounding its town..

The summary said "august" not "August".
