    But he seems actually worried mainly about tenured professors who are doing good research, because they aren't paying enough attention to teaching. Good teachers need to exist, but so do good researchers--- the problem with today's university is not that there are too many good senior researchers. If anything, the opposite.

    The problem is researchers and teachers get jumbled into the same mass when it comes to advertising. Having the best theoretical physicists doing research does nothing for an physics undergrad.

    So... it is fine for someone to argue his point of view only if it validates yours and counter-arguments are forbidden? I am neither agreeing nor disagreeing with him, just a bit annoyed when someone refuses to even listen to another perspective. So much for democracy...

    Why would a government who wants to "control those people" embrace the globalized free market?

    If the government *says* they embrace it and prevent any alternative views, for all the people know they do. This is not to sound paranoid, but if the government (or anyone for that matter) controls all sources of information, whatever they say is truth. Why would anyone disagree with the government if all anti-government propaganda is destroyed?

    Of course games are the primary reason people buy gaming system.

    not only are people not using these functions, they're not even aware of them.

    Considering many games are cross platform, the PS2 is still on the market with new titles, and the PS3 is the most expensive system available, there is little justification to buying one at the moment.

    The problems with legislation are:
    (1) the idiots in congress do not have a clue as to what a botnet is and therefore are incapable of creating anything remotely usable;
    (2) the average user would not know why his computer cannot access the internet;
    (3) many flat out refuse to learn good online habits until forced to and even then they will fight to the bitter end.

    Believe it or not, there are legit purposes for torrents. Too bad so many people insist upon using them for not-so-legit reasons.

    There are reasons to use a modchip beyond playing pirated games. There is always the possibility of playing third party games (where do you think new companies come from?), using the hardware for something other than a gaming console (myth tv/cheap handheld/etc), or just tinkering with it. The label on the back of the system says the warranty will be voided by playing with the insides, as it should be, but that is not the same thing as saying "opening this box is reason for your arrest".
    Apparently our government (this is sadly not limited to the US) has not yet realized that a majority of the tech companies in existence today got their start tinkering with previous products.

    More importantly, we can invent other ways to be laid that do not involve a real person. Ok, "she" may be real to you, but lets face it: if "she" comes in a box and requires an air compressor, chances are you will have a tough time introducing her to your parents.

    KILL EVERYONE WITH A LOW IQ!

    There is one problem: if you kill all below average people, it would re-average itself. Eventually you will be on the lower end and will be killed. This will continue until only the one with the highest iq is left. Being the only one left, (s)he will, by default, have the highest iq of all people and will write an article on how the smartest people have no sex.
    Therefore, we should keep the lower people. If nothing else, they make the rest of us feel better about ourselves.

    Yes, they have attempted to target it. However, few oems will support linux in fear of microsoft's wrath. Of the few that do, the "choice" given to users is pathetic at best. If it is failing on the desktop, it is not because of inferiority in any way; rather, it is due to microsoft's threats to oems.
