They think religion is science, they crave circuses instead of information, they are lazy, and they let their pandering media pundits of choice think for them.
I take it then that you interviewed every American yourself to determine their opinions on science and religion, studied their work ethic empirically, and discerned their will to vet the information they consume, rather than get a general impression of what "Americans" are like through the media, huh? Oh, kudos to you sir. Kudos.
Man, you need to lower your caffeine intake! People have opinions, but honestly there's only one person who can control ow happy or angry you are, and that's you. If you have this strong of a reaction, don't read here (not because you're not wanted, but because you don't seem to enjoy what you find on the site).
I was cursed out yesterday on/. because of my religious beliefs, but you know what? It's not my problem that some people are immature or speak out without considering more than one viewpoint (in fact, I'm 100% certain that without realizing it, I probably am guilty of the same at times), so it's no big deal. Relax, breathe deeply, and remember - these are opinions, not facts, and we won't all always agree with one another.
Not trying to beat you up over this - I think you've got enough internal anger so that you don't need anyone else to fan the flames. If you find some of the things here offensive, roll your eyes and laugh about it. That feels much better than remaining bitter and enraged does.
Yeah. You know, I send my kid to a Catholic private school here in southern Louisiana, and they teach evolution. I don't know why the school board in Livingston Parish fears this - it doesn't seem to have eroded the faith/beliefs of the Catholics who live here, which is what it seems they believe is happening in the public system.
I think you're likely to be correct. I'm running dual ATIs (can't remember the model at the moment, wanna say 4800) and a quad-core proc (last one released before the "i" lineup). I have reinstalled (and replayed to the lock-up point) but with no luck. Ah well, may actually do an XP dual-boot just to finish the game. Thanks anyway.
I do hope the sequel will support 64-bit platforms. Like most people here, despite some shortcomings I thought the original game was great - all the way until the point where it stopped working on my machine. My PC surpasses the minimum requirements easily, but apparently 64-bit Win7 isn't technically supported. I was able to play up until the point in the game when you enter the town of Redcliffe. At that point, my machine would consistently lock up. Despite all patches being applied and ensuring no background processes were running that would seem likely to interfere, no luck. I contacted Bioware support, who told me to f*ck off as 64-bit OSes were not only not supported, but also that they were not likely to issue a patch in the future to stabilize the title on such systems.
Did anyone here experience regular lock-ups on Win7 64, and if so, were you able to and how did you solve the issue?
Wait... you expected more of IBM than that they give us a standard connector for mice and keyboards that didn't require thumbscrews, a socket the size of a light bulb, or multiple adapters, which lasted from its creation until a general phase-out only because of the introduction of USB? Yeah, you're right I guess. They didn't really contribute anything worthwhile to computing. Silly me.
Amongst motorcyclists they're known as "Ovlov"s - they tend to tail you so closely that you can easily read the name on the fascia in your vibrating, usually-hard-to-use rear view mirror with no problems at all. I don't think this detection system is going to really help remove that unfortunate reputation.
I agree with you, which is why I specify "relative to the countries they wish to overrun." I thought about that before I posted - for instance, North Korea could probably conquer South Korea (if NATO / US were not to become involved); Russia could easily retake several satellite nations; should China wish, their Russian hardware would enable them to defeat many of their neighbors as well.
Relative to the US' military it's true that these countries' capabilities are second-tier, but when your foe is either far smaller or even less well-armed than you are, the only real thing holding you back is fear of reprisals and global condemnation.
Politically, there are a few countries the US would love to clear out and Annex. It's just the rest of the world thats keeping them from doing so.
I imagine this is actually true of just about any country that has a military of reasonable capability, relative to the country(ies) it wants to conquer/control.
Hehe, I had a feeling that was going to come up. I almost put "It", but then decided, "Screw it, I'll stick with convention. Either way, someone will complain."
The historical reason is that the original writers of the books of the Bible lived in times that were even more male-centric than our own. I doubt God truly has a gender, or testes.
I'd be happy personally to write "it" instead of "he/she" when talking generically about anything when a specific gender isn't absolutely known, but that doesn't seem to have caught on yet.
On a related note - why do HUMANS think they need to defend GOD? What is he the most nit picky SOB ever?
I'll agree with you on this, and venture my thoughts. My impression of God is that He *doesn't* need defending, but some humans feel the need to justify their belief in Him, or force others to accept it (perhaps out if uncertainty and to gain external validation of their beliefs?). I think God (in whom I am a believer) isn't as uptight as people are; the last thing He wants us to do is hurt/kill each other over our religious faith, yet in spite of this, we do. I'm convinced this is far more due to our failings than our deity's.
Hmm... maybe I didn't sleep enough last night. Or it's possible that I put my sense of humor in the dryer accidentally, and it shrunk:( I'll try to stretch it back to normal and be more chipper next time I post, I promise.
I suppose if I have your positive outlook, Christmas DOES come twice a year after all!
If a news report on NPR this AM is accurate, the physicists don't expect to get the system to its fullest potential until around 2013/14. There will be rounds of studying the results of each run and then retuning the system based on what is learned.
7TEV is huge for such a small amount of matter - the scientist interviewed pointed out that a mosquito generates about 1TEV to beat its wings, but then it's fantastically large compared with subatomic particles obviously. When compared with the forces theorized to hold these particles together however, 7 is a good step forward, but they didn't expect to get there at only this power level.
I see legions, using P2P and usenet to bypass any codes whatsoever... Fortunately, that hasn't entirely obliterated the original sale market yet (despite what publishers would tell you).
It's likely, among other things, used to determine how to draw congressional districts. I know that in my home state, districts are drawn partly to provide an ethnic mix of representation. The white population over all is still currently so much larger than that of any *single* other group that this is probably a political necessity in order to increase the likelihood that those of non-white race will be represented in Congress.
Just wondering (i.e. not a flame), are there socket enclosures (so that the LEDs are "hidden" within) that have perhaps a plastic/glass filter that can warm the light up a bit? I could Google for it to try and find out, but I'm afraid laziness has reached a new height.

They could also try to release honest-to-goodness original, quality films, too. No gimmicks required.

Thanks for the tip - I honestly didn't think of doing that.

No, it's okay - you're ranting for millions now, so you might actually feel a little bloated and even nauseated at times :)
I love my country, but I hate the current state of my government.

Hmmm... my fundamentalist manager insists that 6k years should be enough for anyone!

to hide from your opponents during a deathmatch on this level.
It's the year of Linux on the iPhone! Who needs desktops?! Pah!

I give you kudos for not posting AC, but you may also take this opportunity to not bitch at people you don't know.
I hate this day more than any other day of the year. Let's just skip to the second, please.

The story/interview, if you are interested.

Not saying I agree or disagree with the practice. Just noting a political reality.
I'm white. I don't know whether that knowledge changes anyone's interpretation of my post or not.
