Product activation over the internet has been having some success with regards to checking piracy.
Its quite natural that most software companies would adopt this method to check illegal copies of its software.
So for every company that wants to use this 'Product Activation',they should pay royalty to 'z4' ? Is that what z4 wants? or Is it that no one else should use 'PA'.
How could doing away with buttons be of use to the user?
No buttons means, you have to LOOK at the pad when you type. That means its going to be difficult
to dial under low light conditions.
An example is ipod.Every time I use Ipod at night before going to bed,I first have to hit some button to light itself up and then work on the menu/pad.
Sze says Friendster doesn't need to have a MySpace-size traffic explosion to turn a profit. Says Sze in an e-mail, 'If those users are reasonably valuable and monetizable, I think [investors] can make money on their investment
How exactly are they going to make money?
With those googleads like ads they got there?? http://www.friendster.com/
Its good that you decided to buy your music. But I dont know if you realise allofmp3's legality in Russia itself is debatable - more so outside Russia. I really have serious doubts on whether any of that amount you paid to allofmp3 reaches the artists.
I dont know if it should be called "crime", but I agree teens dont realise its wrong to copy everything from friend and not buy.
I have a friend, who is well off,can very easily afford to by a CD.But,sadly, all he does is only copy from friends CD or worse coy from friend's mp3 and pop it into the car & go.
I once asked him about buying,he said "I dont have a habit og buying.Just listen and go!"
I have a Samsung Cd-Rom drive, that will not open(eject) if there is no CD inside the drive.
The solution?..is to always have a Cd inside the drive.
If I didnt,it'd very difficult to get it to open..
My friend has the same problem with his samsung drive too.
Sadly, recently I had forgotten to leave a Cd in the tray : game over I guess - It wouldnt open at all any longer! Its a drive that would work perfectly if it had a Cd inside...
For those who dont know what a honeypot is: [From Wikipedia.]

Honeypot is literally the term for a container of honey but is used in several different ways, often playing off the image of sweetness being used as a lure:
* A computer system set up as a trap for attackers; see Honeypot (computing)
* Traps designed to catch conventional criminals; see honey trap
These hackers need to be taught how much involved NASA is in killing Libanese people.:-p
You talk like they have a choice. If it was possible to deface Whitehouse.gov , they would have gladly done it - otherwise they have the satisfaction of defacing a AMERICAN site even if it is NASA.See?
Those who download the 2007 Microsoft Office system Beta 2 will be charged $1.50 per download
I wanted to joke if microsoft wants to cover bandwidth charges.....but seems thats the real reason !!
FTFA:
"Since the end of May, Beta 2 has been downloaded more than 3 million times...That's 500 percent more than what was expected," the spokeswoman said. "The fee helps offset the cost of downloading from the servers."
"What's a guy that doesn't even consider himself paranoid to think of the current state of affairs?"
Whats the use of being Paranoid? Makes sense if you are able to do something about it.Otherwise,
its better to actually ignore it all off &live in peace as though nothing happened - yes thats bad,but its better than whining to ourselves the state of affairs about which we are not able to do anything !!
winamp plays video.. but frankly I wouldnt buy anything encoded in WMV, as it's an inferior format, and anyone who encodes in it obviously must disdain their work =)
You're right.Neither would I willingly buy WMA.:) But what about the content that you just come across. You spend hours downloading something from the internet & when you open the WMV file,it promptly refuses to play due to DRM.
Bypassing the DRM for the cntent you own is onething. Bypassing the DRM for the content you do not own is another thing.
The DoT, in its letter issued to all the ISPs has mentioned that it had come to notice that in some cases the parent website had been blocked in contravention to what was stated in its earlier order dated 13th July 2006 whereby it ordered the ISPs to block certain websites/webpages
Is it so difficult for ISP's to filter only some particular blogs in Blogspot & not all blogs on Blogspot ?? Isnt there a technological solution ? or Is it that they didnt want to do it?

All this doesnt mean I support DRM though.

What are you talking? Because a person uses a 2 year old Xp pirate key,Microsoft wouldnt detect it as a pirated version?I really cant get your logic.
So copy from beta doesnt count ?

Men like to look at female avtars. Whats new?
Thats such a good Idea !
But do they really want people to get it?

But losing 18 satellites is insane. They should have tried it with fewer satellites.

While the methods you mentioned work, they are tedious - you have to play the whole song & save it as a non-DRM MP3/WMA.
Theres nothing like cracking the file straight -
By the way what would you do with DRM WMV huh?
Was that sarcastic ?

While almost every software[Windows XP,soon Vista too!],copy protection schemes [DeCSS] have been cracked , why hasnt the WMA/WMV DRM been cracked?
What makes it hard to crack WMA? How did Microsoft get this one right?

Thats not a joke. Slashdot needs to redesign the logo......
Slashdot looks pretty much the same ever after the recent design upgrade.
They use the backup receiver to find the original receiver !
Thats real. I postpone to read them later ,and then I forget all about it.
