    Unlike traditional web-based search engines, the Napster system cannot index files based on their content and organize them in a meaningful way for the users.

    and...

    When Napster is able to implement a business model, there will be other benefits for artists as well, including payments to rightsholders.

    So, there is no way to know if it's copyrighted, but if it is we'll pay the guy...

    They have to figure out from hieroglyphics how to build a 20th century-based CDROM player from whatever materials and technologies they have on hand, learn how to decode all the contents, rediscover ASCII and "English", and THEN figure out what to make of all the obsolete ancient babble stored on it?

    If our history is not preserved, and in 50k years they continuously wonder what happened before them as we do, then this would be a great blessing. If the dinosours had left historical documents in some strange media and it took us 300 years and $100 billion to decode, but gave us information similar to this project of the time I'd say it was worth it...

    What is it really used for? It's used to share files ending in ".mp3". MP3 files are audio files, and could contain:
    • Recorded Sermons from the local church
    • Local bands trying to distribute their music
    • Kids trading stories
    • Farting noises
    • Pirated music


    So...it's just a way to trade files damnit! When people start looking at child porn over the WWW do you go blame Netscape, IE and the w3c?

    Pirating is bad, get the pirates! But let me transfer files!

    You can get all the sigs you want, but the people still have to vote on it. Getting the petitions only means that the bill will be placed on the ballet. When we collected petitions the common response is "well, I don't know much about it..." Our response: "Well, this will just put it on the ballet, you have from now until Nov. to decide if you want it to pass or not. It's just giving the people the right to decide on this issue when they come to the polls"

    He was talking about being active. More active then voting. Things like talking to the school board, and supporting local politcal special interest groups. Voluntering money/time to a local politician that you feel is different from the rest....etc...etc...

    In the short term, though, I believe you have a point. If all that's needed to pass a law is for everyone on an electronic mailing list to click on a link, we're far more likely to see free beer for 31337 d00dz become mandatory.

    This petitions just put the the bill on the ballet. So, yes this COULD be put on the ballet, the citizens would vote on it, and no free beer. There are also many legal bodies that check the legality of each bill. Free beer for the elite would never make it to the ballet, it's not specific enough, and problably discrimative in some way ;)

    We have also created rules favoring the driver...

    The driver decides
    The driver settles any disputes with the shotgun calling (I've seen it get violent).

    The driver my call a Shutgun embargo
    The page calls then shotgun gapers, we call them shotgun whores. When one is a shotgun whore for too long the driver can call a 1 time embargo by saying "Shot gun block", allowing someone else to then call shotgun. If the whore whores too long, then a shotgun embargo can be placed upon the person for the ammount of time specified by the driver.

    I think that sums it up...

    Being a very lazy person I don't ever want to have to work harder then I have to (when I'm not programming of course ;) ). So, my programming goals are to make every task in life automated and simple. Computers could save steps everywhere in human life, and I'd like to make that happen.

    But..

    I don't like the idea of programming that will take care of one problem and not help with the next at all. I like to think of things in a more abstract way so that you can solve a problem, and then use that code to solve 3/4 of the next problem.

    I'm no guru though, I just make some money here and there with PHP and....well...ASP...*hides face*

    I don't think that you even read the guy's post. His point was that the guns keep the government in line. If we have no guns, they can run all over us and there's nothing we can do.

    You know, many people blame the Holocaust on gun control. I've read that the Nazis took the guns away from the people, and then what could they do? Nothing...

    What if Britain had a strict gun control policy back in the 1600s? Well, Americans woudn't be...American!

    I don't think that guns are needed for people for self defence from guys walking around on the street, they are needed to keep us from being trampled by the US Government!

    Yes, I actually patch the source to have the credits stay on longer, then I just read all the names, everytime, over and over again, recognizing them....I'm I'm sure that those authors really appreciate it..

    Of course you can go on Napster and find it, Coolio - Gangstas Paradise, of course you would only do this if you own the CD....

    I think this is a great idea. My friends and I, if we can get their address, will download all of a band's songs and then send them a check. It's really not fair that we steal their songs and they get no money, and by me sending them a check for $10 for 2 cds worth of songs, I would imagine that the band makes more off my $10 then they do off 2 CDs.

    I can't beleive I'm even on my computer. I was almost sure that the odd day computer bug would strike, power would be out and looters would be taking over my house!

    I was amazed when I survived the 9-9-99 bug, but and after surviving this I'm not scared of the Y2K bug anymore. I've lived through the worst of 'em....

    It is said that some of the charecters in the suits are secuirity too.

    Maybe just a myth?

    I don't know, if you've been to Disney as many times as I have, you might start to beleive it too. It is just amazing the level of detail they put into every attraction, every store, every little bench, just to fit into the theme that they present in that area of each park. After going to Disney a couple times a year for my whole life I have decided that there is no extreme for Disney, and that the characters very well could be security.
