  1. riiight.. on UK Banking Law Blames Customers For Insecure OS · · Score: 1

interesting system. i hope they're not using the same logic in the netherlands, or i'm screwed. the rabobank, where i've got an account, only supports internet explorer for internet banking so i wouldn't even be capable of doing so from a safe OS. i feel sorry for those poor brits..

or 3) Somebody downloads just about every song an artist has made, adores most of them and buys some albums just to show them some support.

i've got a couple of albums lying around without ever doing anything with them, just for that reason. if i want music, i'll download it. if i want to show my support to a band, i'll buy their album.. or, better yet, i could go to their concerts but that's kinda hard for me to do since i don't have the time or money to actually go to one.

that should be interesting. the flash would cause the buckyballs to suddenly expand slightly, and apparently release a lot of heat. the hydrogen would quickly decompress though, so it'd get extremely cold. makes me wonder if this would burn or freeze?

i think bwjones meant that we could map other kinds of non-visible energy (uv, infrared just to name a few) to colours that we CAN see. then, just have some kind of a control that changes the mapping, and you can see heat, magnetism, radiation or anything else with the press of a button.

uhm, there's a technology that's used in light amplification technology that could solve the darkening problem. http://electronics.howstuffworks.com/nightvision1. htm at the bottom. wouldn't that solve the problem? i know it's only directional, but i'm sure it could somehow be minimized until it fits in front of the eyes without too much distortion or problems.

  11. Re:killed the format on The GIF Format is Finally Patent-Free · · Score: 1

you use jpg for internet graphics? okay, this may get me kicked out of slashdot, but... you, cheeze, are a noob. not the "newbie" kind, but the "n00b" kind. the bad kind. may you rot in a pixely and grainy hell for using jpg. now seriously, i do not hate jpg. it's good for photo's and scans. but internet graphics are mostly computer-generated. and any animated series of jpg images would look horrible due to the semi-random graininess. have you ever considered using png or gif or if absolutely necessary, bmp?

  12. Re:but really.... on The GIF Format is Finally Patent-Free · · Score: 1

actually, i'm rather happy with this. i've always wanted to try to make a php-script that generates complex battle animations in a web-rpg, but i never could because i'm no good at making gif files and the php graphics library didn't support gif. because it was patented. so yeah, there IS someone who will be affected by this. yay for me!

  13. yes! on Are Videogames Art? · · Score: 1

games are definitely an artform. who hasn't ever gone "aww" out loud at chrono trigger, or cried when aeris died, or perhaps even sniffed a bit when both x and zero "died" at the end of X5? it's much easier to create such a touching story when the player can't save everywhere, that's something i noticed. also a constant action isn't a good thing story-wise. a good story needs some good calm moments as well, but not too much. it needs to be well-balanced. anyone else got any ideas on creating a good story?

  16. Re:Why wouldn't we just use extra cores? on Chip Promises AI Performance in Games · · Score: 2, Interesting

ah, finally someone who thinks my way. yes, if we were to have a choice between various ai/physics cards somewhere in the near future, like we do with graphics cards nowadays, they would automatically become affordable in an effort to become the cheapest and/or best of all similar cards. that way, we could have those great features. game developers and game modellers would rejoice in the removal of the barrier in animation (vertex displacement function for muscle simulation, anyone?) and physics (massive physics-based puzzles and arenas?) to those who said a separate ai card would make ai too difficult... it would also allow the programmers to limit the ai so it only knows what it should know, like a normal human does. stealth would become better, more enjoyable and more rewarding as you've finally gotten the feeling of playing against smart enemies.

yes, someone who could see would be able to tell a bright room from a dark one... but nobody would believe him, because nobody else could see it. someone who could see would also have numerous advantages over the others (duh), but the blind people would say stuff like "you heard that tiger coming", or "you already knew that lever was there". it's basically the same story. and if some nutcase were to reward someone to prove he could see, while said nutcase couldn't see anything, there would be no way to prove the wonder of "sight"!
