They should be working on the SEP field.
Hitchikers guide reference:
"The technology required to actually make something invisible is so complex and unreliable that it isn't worth the bother. The Somebody Else's Problem field is much simpler and more effective, and can be run for over a hundred years on a single torch battery. This is because it relies on people's natural predisposition not to see anything they don't want to, weren't expecting, or can't explain."
As with most things it's the users fault. In an ideal world users wouldn't be able to use anything, therefore they couldn't break anything. Lets ban people from using the internet, that will make it faster and more reliable.
P.S. That's a joke.
Sound can travel through space, because space is not the total vacuum it's often made out to be. Atoms of gas give the universe a ubiquitous atmosphere of sorts, albeit a very thin one. The sound would not be picked up by human ears as they are not sensitive enough, although you may be able to make it if you had a massive über sensitive microphone.
A better idea might be something for the blind that vibrates out text messages in a morse code fashion. I expect this has already been done somewhere though.
Gareth.
I would definitely get the re-release of Populous. I don't know how many of you remember a game called Battle chess. It was chess with a twist. When a piece was taken by another, they battled eachother in a humerous animation sequence. A remake of this with modern 3D animation would be awesome.

Isn't government efficiency an oxymoron?

I find this site fairly useful:

Not self-inflicted, friendly fire.

Actually scrap that idea.

You are about to be shot by a man named ... oh, too late!
There is a bug in Google maps.

40 WDs = 40 x WD = WD40 ?
