This is the coolest thing about Slashdot. The people who are going to show up at these parties are usually hardcore techies. What a great feature, thanks Slashdot!
This is a great utility because it allows true ultra-portability. As an admin, I can tell you that roughly 1 of 2 executives leave without a presentation. Having this available is great!
Myth will find another source. If it would just come pre-configured with a distro, it would be a lot more popular and not have to worry about potential risks like losing it's guide feeds.
Who doesn't need consolidation these days? I'd certainly value a phone that handles my email, Voice, docs and spreadsheets, photos, music, and search. I mean, in all honesty, that's all you really need on a phone and when it's from one source, mazal tov!
Parents are 100% responsible for their own kids, up to and including online usage. When parents bitch and moan about their kids falling victim to lester, the neighborhood molester, they have absolutely NO ONE to blame but themselves.
Work schedules conflict with watching your kids? YOUR FAULT PC in basement, garage, kids room? YOUR FAULT.
Kids don't need AI or software monitoring, they need parents to pull the plug when mommy-sight is not available.
It happens to XM all the time, songs ripped directly from the stream. How long before amazon and netflix and whoever else face the same problem?
I can see these streaming movies cancelled once the RIAA and MPAA get wind of the number of streamgrabbers out there. How easy would it be, really? Now we burn netflix DVD's in about 2 hours, imagine how many people would signup for netflix if they could burn (or save to ISO) the movie AS THEY WATCH IT?
This has 'Netflix, meet shark' written all over it. 12 months tops before prices skyrocket due to theft or it's cancelled completely.
Just saying.
No one these days considers hacking a legitimate business concern or strategy. If one did, then aside from defining a broad and inefficient standard of what hacking consists of, a guy would certainly run his budget dry trying to either patch every known issue or simply become consumable fodder for his competition.
What we need is less of the Kevin Mitnik ideals and more of the "let me introduce you to PMITA prison if you break the law".
Jus sayin...
How many social researchers salivate when they hear "Hi, I'm Chris Hanson with Dateline NBC".
The industry alone should be salivating, for all the pedo-rific jaw dropping action that goes on in a pedo bust.
Without myspace or any of these, what kind of pedos would we watch get busted on Friday night.
There's only so much Michael Jackson to go around.
If you'll excuse me, I just met a 19 (12) year old kid and am going to drive 300 miles away to meet them. (And yes, I always have protection, erotica, booze, and her favorite perfume with me, you know, just in case...)

I for one find it appalling that only C is allowed. What about Plus or Sharp? They have the same rights as the high and mighty C does. What this amounts to is pure and simple racism. This brings us right back to the coding rights movement of the 80's. I cannot believe we are still struggling.
I'm so mad, I'm calling Jess-C Jackson. He'll get Al #ton on the phone as well.
Virtual appliances will drastically change the way tech sales is handled in 2007. Instead of a sales rep promising their product can perform, they'll now be immediately asked to put their VM where their mouth is.
I for one look forward to vendors coming in and pitching me their software. The ones that can instantly show me the product in a virtualized session running on their laptop will be the ones that we write the check out to.
I for one look VERY MUCH forward to placing our systems on virtualized resources. It'll make us look like a million bucks while saving a million bucks.
This is also great for small businesses who need a quick deployment. I love being able to instantly expand my hardware to accommodate new setups.
I had a boss like lumburgh. Always missing the point and rewarding butt kissers who spent all day emailing so they didn't have to do any actual work.
The greatest glory I received was an email, forwarded to me by a friend, after I had quit. It was from HR and advised anyone caught defacing the bathroom or tampering with the "mechanical function" of the toilets would be fired.
I left a steaming sub in each of the men's rooms the night I quit. I quit on a Friday.
I'd switch, but for career reasons
on
Oracle Linux?

I'd switch our platform to oracle/linux, but only so I could get company-paid experience, training, and certification.
Then I'd jump ship to something bigger and better.//How I've always done it.///Make mad $$$
Better technology? You mean the better technology that's making you deliver digital content to the masses in DRM Free formats the consumer demands?
It's called 1998, and some folks never made it out.

FWIW, Myth beats the shorts off of TIVO any day.

We only comment about the jerks who phish for one reason.
We didn't think of it first.
My wife can augment her rack all she wants, but it still doesn't make up for personality...
Parents can augment all they want, it doesn't make up for responsibility.
Use your head. Actually don't. Your line should obviously end.

RIAA and MPAA should be buying it. How long before .SL creeps along and guys like us start profiting?
I call dibs on goatse.SL!
