Last Chance to Sign Up for 10-Year Anniversary Party
We have 700 T-Shirts coming in today and now we need to know where to ship them. So while you can continue to sign up for parties, today is the last day we'll be looking at the sign-ups to determine where to send shirts.
You can sign up or host your own party and we'll try to mail lots of you schwag and ThinkGeek gift certificates. A note to people signed on for my party in Ann Arbor- we will be at Leopold Bros Oct 20. Pudge has a large party coming together near Seattle, Zonk has 30+ in Madison, and of course there's a big party in Palo Alto Oct 25 that Hemos & I will both be at as well. A reminder to all party planners- make SURE your email address is accurate so we can spam you guys and get snail mail addresses. Remember to take pictures/videos/etc at your local gatherings and submit them to us (we'll have an email address later). Whoever impresses us the most with their creativity in submission will win $1k ThinkGeek prize.
I for one look forward to meeting my 'Foobar' sig-correcting overlords.

Have to admit it came to my mind "hey free swag!", and so I'm sure others will take the bait and do exactly that even if I won't.

Ok, I know this is off topic, but I figure this is the best place to ask. A few weeks ago I was shopping for food in the East Bay (SF Bay Area) and when I walked out of the store there was a teal PT Cruiser with Slashdot logos on it. I needed to get home but I was curious if that was someone that worked for /. or just a really hard core fan.
Does anyone know how to change the slashdot interface back to what it was a few hours ago? I'd love to view comments in "nested" view with a threshold of 2, like I have for many years. :-/

The current code seem to be a worse version of the "threaded" model. I don't want to be forced to click on every comment to read them, damnit!
This is the coolest thing about Slashdot. The people who are going to show up at these parties are usually hardcore techies. What a great feature, thanks Slashdot!

I am one, probably of the many, who posts with eclectic humour only to see it mod'd more as troll than funny (if not passed over completely). Granted I am really trying for the +5funny, but comedy offends (especially bad comedy).

That's exactly why the moderation system doesn't make any sense, at least not on the negative side.
Informative, interesting and funny are subjective views of the content of the post, whereas flamebait and troll are subjective views of the intentions of the author, which the moderator is not privy to. Essentially, a negative mod (besides overrated or offtopic) is an ascription of motive by the moderator to the post author.
Uninformative, uninteresting and unfunny would be far more sensible and balanced negative classifications.
What may well be fake is anyone who shows up. There's even some kinda hot chicks in underwear show going on sometime at this place. (night of the slashparty?). But so far no one says they're gonna show up. Hell, I'll be there - if for no other reason than the happy hour munchies.

I always wondered what was wrong with kdawson.
Now I know: he's from the "blinking lights are bombs" state. (Great quote from the police about how the Boston police should receive praise for not instantly shooting the MIT student with blinking lights in an airport.)
Maybe we'll get lucky and a concrete tile will become unglued and crush them. (Google "Big Dig" for an explanation of that, and remember it was paid for with federal tax dollars.)
I would die to make a prank to one of the many parties by paying some girls to get into the bar and look for a bunch of nerd/techie looking guys talking about slashdot and then flirt with them. Hi, I've a question.
I'm sort of new to this partying thing (okay, this is going to be my first non-family/non-children's party ever) and I'd like to hear some advice on what sort of behavior I should exhibit there. The party's going to be relatively small (about 5 people). I've asked Google already, but I figured some more information couldn't hurt, especially if it's more relevant.

So, you want people to host a 'hurray we're 10 years old' Slashdot party, put our names in for some free t-shirts as an incentive. Who's paying for this party? Who benefits from the free advertising? I think you'll get some response... but not much.

Have guest speakers, charge fees, book it in Vegas, have presentations and awards for the best news stories, best comments, funniest comments, top member, you could really work it and at the end, have enough money left over to pay for hardware upgrades and bandwidth costs for a long long time. The thing is, I'll probably be going to as many of the three in Austin as I can, but you only get to register for one because that's the way they set up the script. So I clicked on the first one and plan to switch afterwards.

My Slashdot account was locked with the wrong email address. Now it is unlocked thankfully to wonderful support at slashdot. SO I am planning to host party at Hyderabad, Venue still to be decided. Would the goodies be shipped from slashdot :) :) :)
The slashdot aniversary party in San Francisco is considering several public venues for the party. One topic of discussion was the fact that many slashdotters might not be able to recognize each other.
Perhaps there should be a slashdot party badge sized to fit a standard badge holder. Slashdotters could navigate to a page that would print out a recognizable Icon as well as their handle and perhaps other statistics (join date, first post date, number of posts, Karma points, etc.).
Those people unable to join an official slashdot party could particpate in a virtual slashdot party by wearing their paper badge in a badge holder as they go about their business in the mall, etc.
I suggest anyone from NL meet at In de Wildeman http://www.indewildeman.nl/indexe.html/. It's close to the central station and has one of the best beer selections in the country (More than 200 sorts of beer at the last count - enough for most people I expect).
