I belive that this was the DVD et all player that had "hidden" menus that allowed people to select the DVD region, hence playing DVDs that shouldnt be available to play on normal DVD players, like imports. Ebay had some last time I checked.
Sure its a great idea, I wish they did the same thing to Joan Rivers' Oscar Preshow but...
there are always going to be the few that will be like "aw, lets cause some ruccus!" and hit that button about 2 seconds into the lifetime achievement award:/
"Your line of reasoning also makes Linux seem shitty. And, not to get too technical, if you loathe cultists, why do you post to slashdot?" I dont think linux (or representatives of the community) expresses its superiority but their users do, so my line of reasoning doesnt apply, and/. is not a cult commuinity, i have no idea where you get that from.
I have a physics teacher at my school who is a mac cultist and still says his 68040 is faster than my p2 but anyway....500MHz? So? He just told me the other day that the 450 outperformes my dual 600...get a grip! He is always saying stuff like that, I also always see apple stating that their G3 whatever can outperform a P3 2 times as fast ect ect...is there anyone that actually did real tests and not the marketing bs that apple puts out? If its so much better why is only %6 (or something like that) of the world using macs? Apple is only at 500MHz and there are proven P3s at 1.5Ghz...why does apple still insist on saying its faster and better? Is the G4 REALLY that good??? ok, enough of my rant, i just loath cultists.
I think some people already got starcraft running on linux using wine, see the Starcraft under Wine howto http://www.linuxgames.com/starcraft.shtml. You wont have to buy the linux version if you got this working.
The sound is an integrated Creative SoundBlaster ES1373B digial controller along with Crystal CS4297 analog codec (SB 64V PCI). Shouldnt it work if you just compile in 16/32/64/Awe support? The video is the Intel 82810, just use the SVGA server but I dont know why you would be running X on a server...
Grab an old extention cord, one with 3 prongs, and chop off one end. There should be 3 cables inside the rubber casing. All you have to do is plug the intact end into a wall socket, and put the black wire on the rack itself (you can crimp it to one of those metal things with an eyehole and screw it to the rack) then the rack is connected to the ground. Dont worry, there is no current or anything that runs through the 3rd (round) prong.
CS 440 1U Rack Mount Chasis $268 Intel CA810 Motherboard $119 Intel Celeron 466 MHZ processor $85 Single Port Adapter $20 64 MB DIMM $80 13 MB Hard Drive $125 CD Rom and Floppy add $75 (Optional) -0- Total $697
It also has links of where to buy all the stuff. Interesting article too.
What you want to do is very possible. I had the same situation. I bought one CPU to start out with and built up my system, knowing that I didnt want to replace my mobo. I have the Microstar 6120, its a dual slot1 mobo with onboard adaptec scsi. I bought it 3 years ago (phew) right when the BX chipset came out. It is relatively inexpensive in its class and is rock solid. It has bus speeds Auto/100/112/133 so it can take all sorts of cpus. I have been running on dual PII-450s recently. My friend is using a Shuttle 649A with a P3 and that motherboard (imho) is not as stable. My system has been runing rock solid using the Microstar. Specs here, and a great price
I bought my cpus from Step-Thermodynamics which I have absolutely nothing to complain about. The coolers on those are simply the best. They add a ton to the stablity and performance (I got the 400-450 step).
I have the 6890a and it has great cooling solutions, its about 1 to 2 inches wider than most cases which allows for a fan mounted on both sides of the case next to the drive bays, check out the picture
Use this case with an ultra quit power supply from pcpowercooling and some of their case fans you got a really cool and really quiet solution. I have their power supply and my friend has their fans, you cant hear the power supply over your own keyboard and the fans are quiet for their speed.
My machine is a dual 450 and it almost never gets to be more than 5 deg (F) or so higher than room temp w/addtronics case and pcpowercooling power supply, and is still quiet.

I saw this one about a month ago, and they looks strikingly similar :/
WTF is this?? can you say shameless plug?
