Chimera is 20.6MB while Safari is 7.2MB and neither of them provide alternate localizations, afaik.
Just BTW - adding localisation to Safari should be incredibly trivial, thanks to how Cocoa handles it. And guess what - it's XML-based! I just took a look & the 'English.lproj' part of Safari is only 720K & you don't have to bundle all localisations...
Wrong on two counts - you can get a crap PC for $500. iBooks start at $999 which is not bad for a laptop. You can also buy a brand-new (non-swivel) iMac from $799
So their OS is free, now you want their services to be free as well? How will they make money, sell their shoes?
Read what I wrote. I'm not suggesting that at all. I'm suggesting that they provide (a limited?) free support service for *this* charity. Normal punters get to pay for support. Hence;
Business Model:
1. Develop Free Product
2. Charge for support.
3. Provide free support for a worthy cause.
4. Win karma points from the populace & sell more service contracts
2. ???????
3. Profit!
Of course, one hopes that they have a Linux expert (or at least somoene who knows what they are doing) on staff
Now, wouldn't this be an ideal opportunity for one of the big distros (Hi, Redhat!) to stand up and volunteer *free* tech support for this worthy charity? Free publicity and all that.... *hint, hint!*
This list is teeming with Apple folks, so I'm sure someone's posted a RADAR bug already.
This problem also came up on MacNN and is discussed in detail here
Now here's the kicker - as the kernel is open-source (APSL - don't complain), someone's already traced the problem back to a recursive lock in the HFS+ subsystem (hfs_vnops.c). Kewl or wha'?
Yeah, I see your point. The 'New MS'.... However, I think they've a *looong* way to go as they've lost a lot of credibility over their sustained FUD campaign.
Permanent! You can turn it back off at any time with 'diskutil disableJournal/' & back off it goes.
Not sure what use this is to the average single-small-drive user other than the fast reboot after a dodgy shutdown. I tried this & fsck automatically does journal replays (and FAST!)
Copy-protected (read 'broken') CDs had a reputation for getting stuck in Mac CD-ROM drives. Check out this old story for more detail. Why would you want to turn this off?

The monopolies watchers are asleep at the switch. Hadn't you noticed ... ?
And of those of us who work there?
Priesthood (and all its hierarchy)??
Devoted, brainwashed lackeys??
(I'm thinking the latter! It's 10:30pm where I am & I'm still here ... :-)

.. have a thread going on this, too. Link here
Yep! The guys on MacNN posted feedback to Apple last week. Expect a kernel Software Update sometime soon, I guess.
Here's the message (login: archives, pass: archives)

Doesn't work on my Mac running Omniweb anyways. CTL-Click & save image or view sources. So much for that .....
Now, if there was a sendmail patch .... :-)

Just as well you didn't post her her phone number
Chances are, it's some other hapless admin's r00ted box .....
A re-run of a re-run! What next .....
And, hey, don't forget the IBM Power4, which is not strictly a PowerPC chip ....
Yeah, I see your point. The 'New MS' .... However, I think they've a *looong* way to go as they've lost a lot of credibility over their sustained FUD campaign.
Well ... yes, actually. Let's take a look;
Avoid hyperbole and unsubstantiated claims at all costs. It's unprofessional and will result in unproductive discussions.
Nope! Doesn't sound like MS.
Focus on what Linux has to offer. There is no need to bash the competition. Linux is a good, solid product that stands on its own.
Nope again! MS have declared war on Linux, declaring OpenSource S/W to be like a 'cancer'. And so on ...
Respect the use of other operating systems. While Linux is a wonderful platform, it does not meet everyone's needs.
Phbbbt! :%s/Linux/Windows. Can you believe they'd say that???
There will be cases where Linux is not the answer. Be the first to recognize this and offer another solution.
*ahem* And so on ... you get the picture!
Not sure what use this is to the average single-small-drive user other than the fast reboot after a dodgy shutdown. I tried this & fsck automatically does journal replays (and FAST!)
Nope ...
Not to mention malapropisms!! :-)

I like the first definition better!
Not just iDVD, but a patched version of it. No wonder Apple were pissed off ....
As for DRM - I'll believe it when I see it ....
