    i think they say that to cover their asses on the off chance some pissed off spammy sues them. I know a LOT of admins use spam cop's blacklist, and based on my observation, i find that bl.spamcop.net is extremely accurate, and virtually never blocks a legit email.

    will all due respect, BULLSHIT.

    Spam is ANY bulk email thats not confirmed opt-in. What if some asshole sent you a snail mail campaign turd that you had to pay for? He's not selling anything, but you still have to pay the cost of mailng it. Thats why spam in any form is evil and should be exterminated with extreme prejudice.

    simple solution, dont use hosting services that support spammers, like XO, C&W, any of the bell companies, burst, verio, etc. Check www.spamhaus.org/sbl to see if the hosting service your thinking about using is a known spam haus or not. Companies with lots of listings should be avoided.

    i just had an idea.......what if we started a realtime black list (rbl) for voice spammers. Hook it into your answering machine / caller id unit, and if the rbl tags the incoming # as a known voice spammer, it doesnt ring your phone and instead plays the SIT tones followed by a profane precorded message of your choice.

    but try mdaemon with the new groupware (no not the novell bs) add-on. Runs great on moderately powered 2k professional machines, and is a SNAP to set up. Installs in just minutes, and without the massive bloat, bugs, gaping security holes, etc that exchange has.

    unlike the isa situation where pci was NOT backwards compatible with isa (you couldnt shove a isa card in a pci slot), pci express can do double duty as a regular pci slot. My 2 cents is that for a year or so, you'll see boards that use a mix of pci and pci express and agp...then once agp is completely dead, you'll see motherboard manufactuers switch to a pure
    pci express platform for simplicity and marketing reasons (now with 6 pci express slots!!!! ).

    I've been reading constant comments how redhat kernel's suck, are buggy, etc etc etc.

    Doesnt anyone compile their own kernels anymore? I cant even code "hello world" and yet every linux box i roll out for clients i grab 2.4.20, tweak and tune
    as needed, and everyone lives happily ever after. My company runs a couple of ecommerce web sites off rh7.3 with my custom kernels, and we never have stability problems.

    Before i rant, some quick background. I've been in IT in some shape or form since 95. I am a decent admin, capable of working in 2k, XP, and Linux (with linux being my preferred server solution). I have a career relavent degree and certifcations. Back in 99 I went back to school and got my degree in june of 01. I spent 13 months unemployed before i recieved a very low paying job that barely keeps me above bankruptcy.
    Less then 10% of my graduating class ever got career relavent jobs.

    OK, now the rant. I would tell ANYONE thinking about a career in computers to avoid it like the black plague. There's too many people unemployed in this area as it is. Companies are outsourcing tech jobs like mad. If by some miracle you do get a job, its very low paying (I've seen companies in LA offering CCIE's $15 an hour) and extremely long hours. Even for someone like me who loves computers, its just not worth it. Getting a degree in this field is just a sure fire way to end up with massive student loans you'll have little chance of ever paying off.

    People keep speaking of when things will recover. I dont think they're going to really. Companies just dont want to spend money in IT or pay for decent IT departments. Why pay someone 35k or more when you can just outsource it for far less. Granted the outsourced IT sucks quality wise, but
    the bean counters dont care about quality.

    I didnt mean to imply that any Christian belief's or
    historical figures were myths, rather i was using the word mythology in the sense of "These names come from Christian stories /legends / etc". Undoubtably some of these people DID exist in some shape or manner, much as Jesus did historically exist. I leave the matter of their deityhood up to the reader to determine. : )

    the 686B southbridge is a bit old, but its pretty solid for the most part. Supports Ata-100 and works fine in linux.
