Suddenlink likes to say they are faster than DSL but they aren't even faster than that here and they know it, they send out lots of fliers but never mention the actual speeds they sell.
I still feel the whole argument that users, businesses should be required to directly pay out 3% is bullshit. Aside from that being at least 10x higher than it should be if you are assuming you now get 98%+ of all transactions.
The biggest arguments against it are that as of right now the gov't itself (through taxes or whatever) entirely funds the replacement of money and coins as they are damaged.
The funds used for that today would easily cover more than than the cost of a computer network capable of managing and tracking all the transactions said country probably even a rather large assortment of supporting staff too.
The gov't wants this to happen as it is extremely in their benefit for the amount of control it gives them so they should be the ones paying for it instead of allowing third parties to be middle men to leach money out of the economy.
We just don't because no one wants to pay for other people's bullshit. Our farms throw away enough to feed everyone needing food because it isn't "doesn't look as nice" but someone would have to pay to get it to where it needs to be.
I still don't understand how apple wasn't already doing this. I mean every basic phone i've had since at least as far back as 2005 has had the option to disable GPS but the option to disable GPS specifically excludes 911.
I sell second hand devices (laptops, tablets and occasionally desktops) and people are still bringing in brand new windows 10 devices with only 2GB of ram but most now have 4GB. 8GB is rare and I haven't even seen one with more than 16GB yet and i've only seen two of those. The ones that I have seen were maxed out and didn't support any larger amount of memory. Like the laptop i'm using right now is maxed out with 8GB and the one I use at home is maxed out at 16GB.
Windows needs least 4GB of ram to not page to disk when installing windows updates by itself! It's infuriating that they still sell them with less.
There are at least 3 different companies working on launching their own LEO constellations right now with targets of 50Mbps, 1Gbps and 10Gbps. Hopefully at least one of them makes it to market but until one does it's just vaporware.
Wouldn't it make it more cost effective to leave it? FTTP/cable/ADSL would have a much more exclusive control of the area due to other options not being allowed ensuring a higher take rate.
We've spent the last few decades arguing about if we even have problems and people are still arguing about it. If our politicians could have been convinced this could have been started long ago.
VNC works fine but If it's possible to game at 1080P with low latency it should also be possible to navigate a windows folder without a noticeable lag as reloads the screen. trying to watch video on a remote system is a automatic slideshow yet they are managing 60fps with the steam link.
Not everything is intentionally designed to be difficult to service/replace some things like the head gasket (another dirt cheap part that costs a ton in labor to replace) are overly difficult to get to just as to how they have to be made.
Plus I'm assuming that if you had the hours to burn you could actually replace the part yourself without having to break anything in the car to do so or risking that the car's brakes would stop working after a software update because you got them replaced at a local mechanic instead of shipping your car back to the factory for repair.
In short having a crap design that makes servicing difficult while annoying and it should be discouraged I don't feel it is the same as companies that are securing their equipment to prevent outside repair.
That it's actively being discouraged by some manufacturers by making repairs as difficult as possible if not impossible. Not just that they don't make parts available they go out of their way to sabotage use of the parts people can get.
Yes. Yes we do need laws
Do we own the device or are we just renting it? Because the receipt says we own it.
Most phones, tablets, laptops can still be repaired although some make it much more difficult than it needs to be. I've heard some of the windows tablets are epoxied together so even the manufacturer can't repair them.
Usually they last a long time but they are also usually pretty expensive so most would prefer not to have to chunk a $700 device for a $0.50 part.
IMHO the right to repair should extend to software so being able to load your own os on your phone when the manufacturer decides there is no longer any money in it should be possible.
They started out just stealing the fixtures like the TV from unoccupied rooms then started waiting for the occupants to leave and then taking their stuff while they were gone.
I have a problem with a phone I put on pageplus it can't receive calls from any of our verizon wireless phones however it rings like normal it's just the pageplus phone doesn't actually ring (it does from any other carriers line).
Verizon blames pageplus and pageplus blames verizon and nobody will fix it.
Extra info The verizon wireless lines can call the pageplus phone successfully but only if they are either on VoLTE or roaming. Just to note pageplus uses verizon wireless network.
Had a damaged disc drive from a drop and wouldn't read games so I took it to a local repair shop. Local repair shop couldn't get the parts required to fix it. Subsequently discovered fall damage was covered by warranty sent the Xbox one to Microsoft and was informed that they would not repair it at any price because the sticker had been removed by the local repair shop to inspect the damage.
Iirc ended having to mail it off to a professional place in Texas who was able to fix it for about $179

Yay it's fixed! I don't know how long it's been fixed but its fixed now!
This is a test please ignore.
Suddenlink likes to say they are faster than DSL but they aren't even faster than that here and they know it, they send out lots of fliers but never mention the actual speeds they sell.
If you are selling service as 10Mbps it doesn't seem unreasonable that half of those attempting to use it at peak time actually be able to do so.

Oh good because we can feed everyone now.

That sounds pretty scary considering verizon is retiring their CDMA network in less than 2 years.

The free market has decided that some locations don't have a fast ROI so they will never build service there.
Unless the gov't steps in that will never change.

/. is one of few sites today that still plays nice without javascript.
Nooooooooooo.
Come on at least quote verbatim:
"We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of the controversy."

This isn't the first time this has happened

Has anyone come up with a solution to that yet?
