  1. Re:First Victory! on President Obama Gives Up On The Trans-Pacific Partnership (theguardian.com) · · Score: 2

I hated it from the start for the way they tried to do it. It did have good points but even with those it's still a very sorry substitute for any type of NHS. The very worst part of it IMHO was that people were not able to keep their plans as promised second worst is that the medicaid expansion was never done in several states (including mine) which made it look even worse.

I was really (still am) hoping that the ACA was a step toward a better system (if nothing else it really got the discussion going). We don't get a lot of choices for how we want things done but IIRC it was supposed to be a lot bigger deal originally and that was all they were able to get passed.

  2. I think google is one of the very worst offenders on this they replace all the links to the cached version of the page with this little triangle that you can't click on in iOS. What the hell was wrong with the old way and just show "Cached" out next to the url that worked on everything!

  3. You can block ads on android and ios (9+ only IIRC)
The old 3G phones the experience is even worse than on android or ios without adblock on my samsung convoy 3 it nags every time it switches from an insecure to a secure connection slow as hell but sometimes if the page doesn't load in a weird way that covers it up I can use it to find a phone number of a business I need to contact.

I miss the browser on my old phone (lg rhythm aka ax585) at least it had a scroll wheel.

Not alaska but i'm in an area just a few miles away from where the city fiber stops currently making due with an unlimited verizon cellular connection as they were the first ones with LTE in my area. Now the other providers have caught up so I could use att, sprint or tmobile without too much hassle if I needed to.

There is fiber in town and fiber down the street run by the electric coop but they refuse to sell internet service they rather stay in the electric only business.

There are also two WISPs in town so there is enough coverage to cover 90% of the area and I think discurage anyone from trying to offer anything better. The few of us that can't get service because we are behind a hill or are slightly too far away from a tower are pretty much screwed imo.

Someone tried to explain to me that att prefered to offer broadband in areas that already had broadband as there was a proven demand or some such BS.

  10. Funny all that money has never been able to so much as let you watch the game you wanted on tv as TFA mentions they are often blacked out because someone wants a unreasonable fee for carriage.

There needs to be a better way to negotiate carriage other than giving customers the shaft every time they can't reach an agreement.

It does however seem to be enough that it's the equivalent of unlimited funds for any requests for sports related gov't building here.

  11. IMO? If they are as they believe the candidate the people want it won't matter and they should do it because its in their constituents best interest.

If I did talk to any of them I'd have to mention how much I hate daylight savings time while I was there.

  12. I'm out here in oklahoma and there are a large number of people saying they are voting for trump, they aren't voting this year, they are voting for gary johnson (oklahoma does not allow write in's) or are voting for hilary.
In order of most to least common in my area.

  13. No I know they don't believe 100% (or at least I hope they don't) but they say they do.

IME its pretty much impossible to find two people that don't disagree on something.

Being able to say that you don't actually like either choice but you're still going to vote for one of them and not pretending that there isn't anything you like about the candidate you hate (or vice versa) puts you in a very very small minority here.

i'm intentionally not naming any candidate names because that tends to convert the conversation from a logical one to an emotional one and I would prefer to have a conversation than an argument.

  14. I've noticed that it seems to carry over into the candidates most people are absolutely for one candidate or another.

There does not seem to be any well I'm voting for candidate A because I most agree with them even though I like candidate B's policies on "insert controversial issues here"

Here the response is almost always similar to this I'm voting for candidate A because candidate B will destroy our country and ALL of candidate B's policies are bad.

It seems like people are picking single issues to base their vote on and then making the rest of their opinions match the candidate because I can't believe that nearly everyone can agree or disagree on ALL points with either candidate like they so claim.

I hate a lot of the current candidates policies I like some of them but not one closely reflects my views. This is the best we could do?

Suddenlink won't supply us with a single in the clear digital channel at any price but with a decent HDTV antenna we can run all 20+ tvs with a HD picture for the one time cost of the antenna.

Fuzzy cable with 48 channels or HD digital with 4? Your picture quality impacts sales and all the tv's will be tuned to the same channel 99% of the time. What'dya think they're going to choose?

Our local muni fiber considered running fiber outside of city limits even got a quote from the surrounding electric coop but they apparently wanted too much money for pole attachment as that never happened.

However they did get a wisp started that now sells service outside of the city their coverage even overlaps with the existing wisp in the area.

In one place they are even both using the same tower thats behind a hill from my house so I STILL can't get service at home.

it also resulted in some rather strange pricing oddities.
When the city started their service they were offering 20Mbps and the local wisp only offered 10Mbps
Now It's swapped the city only offers 10Mbps and the local wisp offers 20Mbps and WTH....
The local wisp was bought out 4 days ago?!!! how did I miss that?!!!!
