Colin Powell's speech, the "freedom fries" sillyness, the "or else" threats agains France, the threat to bomb Pakistan back into the stone age and several other things for which we can be glad Rumsfeld, Powell and Wolfowitz can no longer do as much damage. In hindsight it really looks like it was a war for an election stunt and was really for the benefit of domestic politics - so it really was "Mission Accomplished". Now how do we clean it up? I never caught on to the whole "Freedom Fries" movement, but what's funny is that during World War I, Sauerkraut was renamed to "Victory Cabbage". But what's sillier is relating this to the government - it's much more of a societal movement than one would think.

In hindsight it really looks like it was a war for an election stunt and was really for the benefit of domestic politics Regardless of Rumsfeld's, Powell's and Wolfowitz's performance, the Administration's actions in the last few years are something that most of the clowns on the other side of the political spectrum can shake a stick at. Clinton (Hillary) has been trying to cover up her authorization votes for the war in preparation for the 2008 elections, and has even gone so far as to introduce legislation that clearly states that its purpose is to nullify that vote. And we all know that Kerry voted for the war before he voted against it.

Remember the whole "100-hour" Congress thing? The purpose of that Democratic plan was to introduce enough legislation within 100 hours to make it look like they were accomplishing something. In perfect hindsight, that may have looked like a good cover-up while the democrats pulled their heads out of their asses, but it did alot more harm than it did good. This was the same for Daylight Savings Time, although it wasn't passed by the "100 Hours" Congress. Ed Markey (D-MA) introduced the original DST Extension bill with the radical and ignorance-laden claims that extending DST by eight weeks would "shorten the winter, lengthen the summer, and save energy." The bullshit doesn't stop there - Markey also publicly claimed that such a shift would save 100,000 barrels of oil a day, reduce crime, lower traffic fatalities, and increase economic activity (say that with a straight face).

So remember - Republicans may have their share of embarrassments, but Democrats also have plenty of the proverbial blood on their hands.

Actually, anyone who's taken a basic high school history class will realize that the U.N. DOES have military power. The reason why the League of Nations failed post-WWI was due to the fact that there were no fighting forces who could enforce resolutions - that and the US was not a part of it.

However, the UN, contrary to popular belief, does have a coalition of military forces under its command for exactly those reasons. The United States joined what is referred to as the "Coalition of the Willing", a multinational fighting force that invaded Iraq, deposed Saddam Hussein and enforced the UN Resolution 1441.

Moral of the story: Gunfire is the universal language of diplomacy.

  15. Completely Ridiculous. on Why Apple Should Acquire AMD · · Score: -1

This would ruin the computing industry. Why? Two simple reasons.

    1) AMD is an excellent company with a stellar performance record. There are many OEMs who contract with AMD for processors and ATI graphics. An Apple buyout of AMD would mean that Dell, who has just phased in AMD to their product lines, would no longer want to buy from AMD, because by proxy they'd be purchasing from Apple.

    2) Apple is not the type of company to sell individual components such as processors, hard disks and the like for individual use. Whenever you purchase an upgrade from Apple, THEIR "geniuses" have to install and configure it. What does this have to do with AMD? We would essentially see the end of Off-the-Shelf processors from AMD, meaning Intel would take the market in both the PC OEM sector and the Off-the-Shelf white-box market.

Also, it's premature to blame the law for the lack of guns in the possession of the students. Not only would the law have to be different, we would also need to know if there were any students present who would have been carrying a firearm themselves if it was legal to do so.

Actually, last year there was an incident on the VA Tech campus in which a student, who in this case DID have his concealed carry permit, was disciplined for carrying his sidearm on the VA Tech campus.

And actually, it is perfectly reasonable to blame the law for this - Looking back two years ago, both the Virginia legislature AND the VT governing board voted to keep legal, registered firearms off of their campus. The first occurrence of this was in June of 2005 when the VT governing board passed a "Violence Prevention Policy" that reiterated the ban on students and faculty carrying firearms on campus. Secondly, in 2006, a Virginia legislature subcommittee let HB1572 die before it even hit the floor. HB1572 was a bill that would have allowed students and faculty to carry their legally registered and CWP-permitted sidearms on-campus.

This is without a doubt a sad and tragic moment in American history. I just pray that people will come to realize that guns laws do nothing other than preventing qualified, legal citizens from purchasing weapons in self-defense. All it does is create massive Defenseless Victim Zones for criminals to use for their heinous crimes.
