Is MS going to give it's OS for free? I doubt it, they want our money.
Are they going to open up all it's API's? I doubt it, they want to make deals with favourable 3rd party ISV's. The DOJ ruling against them says they should open up it's API's so let's wait and see.
Are they going to try hard to maintain backward compatibility? I don't think so. 3rd party ISV's love the idea that their software will become obsolete on an old version of windows so that their customer must upgrade to maintain compatibility. Can anyone say "winfax Pro 10"? This is also the case with hardware drivers.
Software for Linux just keeps on getting better and better. Everytime new software for Linux comes out, it's always got cool and usable features that manage to kick MS's butt. As time goes by, more microshills will be putting their tails up their ass.
The way some companies name their products fucking shits me sometimes. Like using the year instead of a version number. People think Windows 98 is old now because 98 is 2 years ago. What's wrong with MS-DOS 7.10/Windows 4.10 which is what the real version number of Win 98 is.
Also, versions jumps like Slakware's jump to 7 to make it sound more recent than redhat's distro; Netscape's jump to 6.
It shits me. I wish companies just keep it simple.
I for one am glad that MS is making DOS more inaccessible. Thanks to Linux, MS is now under a lot of pressure to develop a great operating system and I've been happy with Windows 2000; it's the first real operating system MS has released. I'm not going to buy winME though because I don't need to since I have Win98SE which can run all the games I have. From now on, I'll only invest in Windows 2000 and Linux compatible games so that one day, I will not have to triple boot Linux/WinNT/DOS and instead only dual-boot. One thing that bothers me a bit though is how we are supposed to use DOS while windows isn't loaded. Sometimes this is neccessary to solve some tech problems like DLL hell. As a help desk person, this matters to me. I'm sure there is a way, otherwise winME may be more painful to use than win98.

If you use Windows then you use IE. IE is integrated into the EXPLORER shell and cannot be terminated. Everytime I try to end that task it comes back up again. Windows sux.
Yes, they're here: ftp://ftp.freeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/i386/IS O-IMAGES/ and ftp://ftp.freeBSD.org/pub/FreeBSD/releases/alpha/I SO-IMAGES/ But don't download them from there, download them from the nearest mirror: http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/mirrors-ftp.html
You can do this as long as you distribute the source code along with the program and that you show whoever uses the program the GNU GPL.

This guy should look up the word "articulate" in the dictionary.
Netscape provides a better package than Mozilla. It includes some plugins like Java. I myself would prefer to use Netscape to Mozilla.
