Your chip may run very hot for a while before freezing..The the person will try again.

A 16ms response time is equivalent to about 60 screen changes per second. (ie: FPS). Ive seen many LCD monitors and televisions, and only the latest, most expensive ones are beginning to be watchable for fast motion video.

Also, the cut off for the human eye to see a difference in frames is about 30 FPS, which is why TV's use this.

You are confused about this too. While NTSC technically uses 30 frames per second, it is interlaced. This means there are 60 fields per second. This makes it almost look like its going at 60 frames per second. If your tv ran at 30 frames per second non interlaced it would look like a flashing mess. probly make you sick. Just picture your CRT at 60hz then picture it twice as flickery.

I find LCD has its uses in mono/colour non-backlit low power apps, but I dont really consider it as a serious contender against CRTs for monitors just yet. (JUST IMHO! not trying to change anyones mind)

  13. Re:Game playing on Display Format Technologies Comparison · · Score: 1

Guess I'm replying to a troll, but no they havent. The VERY FASTEST lcd monitors are 60fps MAX.

Also, this is ONLY for black to white and vise versa transitions, which are much faster than gray to white or gray to back (or, again, vise versa).

Some of the newest games wont let you get 60fps on decent hardware, but just about every game achieves higher framerates than that.

Basically, no LCD is not yet good enough for games, unless you 'get used' to the blurryness and ghosting as other posters have mentioned. But if I am paying that much for a freakin monitor, it had better be good, and LCD just isnt (again, just for gaming).

Im crossing my fingers that OLED tech will come out soon. VERY fast refresh, very vivid true colours..Cheaper manufacturing process involving less steps than lcd..etc

Only downside right now is the blue colour pixel lifetime is still too low. Once they have that licked, ill be dancin.

I dont know, maybe I want to hose a file on a public server and only tell certain people the password, in person say. Might not want to have to collect all their public keys. Seems much smarter to just use a symmetric encryption and just password protect the file. Like RAR, which uses AES-128 IIRC. Having to get a public key for everyone who you might want to send this to seems cumbersome.

  19. Re:Symmetric vs. asymmetric on PKWare and Winzip Reach A Secure Zip Compromise · · Score: 1

I understand what asymmetric encryption is for, I just dindt know if there was another way to use it since this sounds fairly useless for a zipped file. Very involved just to password protect your zip file.

  20. Re:Symmetric vs. asymmetric on PKWare and Winzip Reach A Secure Zip Compromise · · Score: 1

I was actually also suprised to hear they use RSA. How does this even work ? Do you have to get peoples public key before sending them a zip file? While digital signatures are nice, it doesnt make up for the huge inconvenience of having to tailor each zip file for the person you are sending it to.

The parent is right talking about a combo of asymmetric and symmetric combinations in common use. With SIMP (transparent MSN encryption) the public keys are sent automatically, and you are supped to verify the hashes over a secure channel (in person, etc). Once verified it sends the symmetric key over the secure channel for the AES-128 and uses that for the rest of the conversation.

For zip files it seems that JUST aes would be the best idea, since all you want is a password.

DISCLAIMER: I am an encryption noob, so if RSA can be done another way, or this isnt how it works at all, let me know.

I'm assuming that you people in the USA dont have a band allocated to the FRS?

Here in Canada, we have something called (you guessed it) FRS. Stands for Family Radio Service. The handsets run for around 25-40 bux canadian. You can usually get them in a pair for 50 dollars. They put out a half watt on vhf(get about a mile of range), and operate in a band allocated ONLY to the frs. There are..14 channels?

Hm, some quick googling turns up the fact that you DO have frs down there. Other than intermod, there isnt really much interference on the band. If you are using normal walkie-talkies, try some FRS radios. If the channel you are on has interference..switch to one of the others.

Also, there are no batteries to replace. It has a cradle, like a cordless phone. Although, unlike a cordless phone, you can put any NiMH AA batteries in there.

The only detriment is really the weight of the mouse. It is quite a bit heavier because of the two AA batteries. Altho, I guess if you cant slide a couple batteries over a smooth surface, time to go to the gym!
