So what? Rioters in the US have access to firearms, and yet you see no civil war in the street, just UK-level vandalism and looting. I should also point out that the Wild West was way tamer by violence standard than present day, shootouts were relatively rare and body count low. Today, the showdown at OK Corral would barely make news. And one last thing, some massive destruction in the UK would be considered an improvement by many.

The difference is that you cannon unshoot JFK or go back in time and do a plastic surgery number on Gorby's head. But the MAFIAA goons are about to turn back the clock and do exactly that - they'll lobotomize the Internet and turn it into a bunch of walled, pay-for gardens where you'll only be able to do what they want you to do. And the lawmakers side with them, because power always sides with Big Money. Unless violent action is taken, this is what's in store for all of us.

if RIM were asked to track down users engaged in a peaceful protest

It can still happen, the UK has a history of sending FITs (Forward Intelligence Teams) to photograph, film, identify and intimidate anyone who is engaged in peaceful protest. It's a highly effective tactic because people who would otherwise participate in the protest out of personal belief would give up and go home in fear of being harassed by the police later, or end up in some black list and be sentenced to life unemployment. It will happen. The UK is fully committed to the Safe Society For the Upper Class Under the Watchful Eyes.

Time has a number of effects on people and even sub-people: it causes aging. Aye, with aging the abhuman basement dweller comes closer to the reality he fears: the day it has to come out. Out in the harsh, competitive world. Out in the merciless, fast world. Out, in the world of the Jock. Here in the real world the loserboy abhuman basement dweller, that awful mass of wrinkled fatty flesh, the stench of its stale sweat polluting the air, it has no place. Here it needs to exist and feed itself, here it can only rely on itself and its scarce, laughable skills. Here its quaint "non-competitive" philosophy holds no value at all. And in this harsh but fair world work takes its right toll on the non-person, reducing the undeserved amount of free time it previously enjoyed and hence, reducing the time it can dedicate to "projects" like this "wiki-shitty-pedia". Instead it must toil and strive, its back bent, its head bowed, under a reddish sun. As it should be.

Keep dreaming, kid, but don't cry too much when you'll have to wake up. The sad, inescapable reality is that all throughout history people had to work for a living (even animals do) and will continue to do so. What should - hopefully - be passing is the current crazy phase where so many have to work their life off so they can just keep existing. There's nothing inherently wrong in working for a living - unless you're a lazy loserboy who should be forced to pick up dog turds off the street by hand - but there's a lot wrong in the concept of living to work.
