  1. Re:So, I ask: who's making good printers these day on Ask Slashdot: Best SOHO Printer Choices? · · Score: 4, Informative

Agreed on Kyocera. Once we moved to them for the majority of our clinic's printing, we had a measured 90% decrease in printer problems. It also is a good idea to find a local printer maintenance company that specializes in Kyocera printers as I have found that when there is a problem it is generally a worn out part that is causing it. Which speaks volumes about the quality of the printers as they wear out before they break something. I have never seen them fail to the point of disabling the printer without having printed well over 10000 pages first. Our current Kyocera with the record for the most pages printed is somewhere above 1 Million pages printed.

As someone that works in Healthcare IT, you nailed it. If the software has no effect on the actual treatment of the patient, then it doesn't have to have ANY certification. If your software effects the treatment of the patient but not actually controllling the treatment, like radiation treatment planning software, then the software must be certified and must run on FDA approved hardware with the trusted platform module chip present and in use. If the software actually controlls the treatment, then the software, hardware, interfaces, and attached/associated systems must be FDA approved.

When I was that age, which was about 10 years ago, I built my first computer. I was also tinkering with the infamous 'bread board' circuit test beds and random resistors and chips that I could get my hands on.

I would have loved to have a subscription to something so amazing as the Make Magazine at that time. It has some amazing bits in it about almost anything that I could ever have wanted to do or make. Besides that, it would have allowed me to find out about some crazier things to do in your own kitchen or garage to make something fun long before I would have played with it at school or college.

All in all, I can't recommend Make Magazine highly enough.

We'll there is but a simple answer to this problem. Since we Linux users are all crackers, then we must be able to crack the warranty in a similar fashion as the hinge. Therefore all we need to do is take this warranty and post it to the proper place in the Linux Community thereby allowing those with the proper knowledge in that particular subarea to crack this warranty. Then take this cracked warranty to the store where you went before, knowing full well that the cracking was superbly done allowing you to get by without being noticed for having a cracked warranty. Also you will need to crack the designed for Vista sticker to make it designed for Gentoo.

Due to the location of the system being a sub-zero environment and the major problem being the extreme differences between the normally high heat of a computer with the arctic like temperatures in the freezer there is but a simple fix. Use an airtight, insulated box with a thermostatically-controlled liquid-cooling system preferably with a liquid that will not freeze at the temperatures. The initial start-up will prove to be interesting due to the intricies of being so cold at first. A space heater might be necessary until heat builds up inside the computer. USE NO FANS! All connections to be made should be routed through a single hole that is sealed immediately with an expansion insulating foam, silicone, or caulking. Any questions?
