Misusing public time and money in a position such as that for such a glaringly obvious moronic purpose should frankly, get them removed from office and barred from working in any government-related position for life. They should also be fined and brought up on charges just shy of treason.
I have heard the Dell Mini 9 runs it quite well, but that is just what I have heard. Messed with it a little on a Dell Latitude a while back and got it running reasonably (subjective) well.
Check out the hackintosh site, they'll have posts detailing which ones work the best.
Good luck.:) I used to have all kinds of fun tinkering with stuff like that. Just not enough time in the day now, sadly.
Portability my ass... It's got nothing to do with that. Perhaps your netbook is a piece of crap.
Mine does all of the above just fine. Toshiba nb205. Looks good, runs fast, light and lean.
Of course, it also runs Windows 7 Home Premium just fine as well.
Perhaps you just don't have a clue what you're talking about and just have a stick up your ass regarding anything non-Apple?
Oh...wait, I just read through you comments... You're an fanboy. My apologies. You probably don't actually even *own* a netbook. Please continue to fanatically ignore reality.
Technically, it's for development/testing only, but the keys will work even after you cancel your subscription (or park it), and I have yet to hear about Microsoft canceling Technet keys or subscriptions unless the abuse is flagrant (I.E; posted on a P2P site, etc...)
Uh, no. Not how it works. It ain't free unless you don't have to pay anything to get it. Since you cannot download form TechNet without paying...it ain't free genius.
If it's Steam games. you *might* appreciate a faster boot unless you've got a hacked (Read: TinyXP) windows XP install. If it's just for games though, there isn't all that much of a need for 7...yet.
New games will undoubtedly require it as more and more people fall off of XP. Steam hitting just under 48% is actually quite newsworthy, considering. It should make headlines when another OS pops in to the "Most used".
Would love to hear what games you are having issues with. WoW, every Steam game in existance, FlatOut, the few NFS games I've tried... all work for me just fine.
Of course, I haven't tried running Champions of Krynn...but that barely worked on Windows 95, so....
He'd have to wait for the laptop to be delivered, call support and order the darn OEMdisc (because they never ship with them anymore), which would probably cost him $10 or so...then he has to wait for that to be delivered.
Meh... Sometimes better to spend the $200 and just be done with it.
I wouldn't do it, you wouldn't do it...simply means our time isn't worth as much to us as his is to him.
Nah. You're looking for the validation of the rest of the whimpering simpeltons who fall for this BS. Actually, I am quite happy I don't fall in to that category.
Gotta ask though... When this fails utterly to change anything (and it will), what's next? A call to arms to put an end to Global Warming while you fly around in your personal jet?...oh wait, Al Gore beat you to that already. Kinda like a cry to fix copyright while totally abusing it, eh?
No, I know you won't see it that way...you're just trying to rationalize and get validation for your own self-entitlement...you couldn't really give two shits about copyright. Kinda like Gore couldn't give two shits about the environment.
You're so intent on playing the martyr......and yet totally unwilling to actually put yourself in harms way.
Sure, you'll fuck around with what you actually think you can reasonably get away with (without your IP address, they can't do squat, and without reasonable proof you're doing anything but posting a bunch of BS, they can't get your IP address), but you sure as hell won't actually give them anything that could actually get you in trouble.
What a bunch of BS.
To anyone actually still reading this crap: If you truly want to get something done regarding IP, start organizing. Put together a web-site, take donations and advertise it on talk radio/facebook/with google. Then plan a protest. Set the date, get the permits, make damned sure it is all legal, and hit the pavement at the capitol (local or federal).
If some nut-job from MN can, in a matter of weeks, put together a 25,000 strong tax rally using only talk radio, surely the billions of file sharers (since none of them are actually doing it for their own selfish desires according to their own rationale) should be able to get enough folks in one location to actually alter the Earth's spin, right?
All these meaningless words on the internet won't change a thing....and this guy sure as hell ain't going out of his way to do anything but bullshit all of you.
The Information Age is not an excuse to water down true civil disobedience.
Your name and physical details are available? Meaningless.
How about your IP and links to the torrents your are currently sharing? (you know...such that could actually imply risk and consequences)
Again, there is an elephant-sized distinction between "saber-rattling" and civil disobedience. One involves little to no culpability, the other requires absolute culpability.
So no, you're not committing an act of civil disobedience. In your own words, you are, simply put, stirring up shit...which is about all you are hopefully expecting to achieve from all of this.
Discussion will change nothing important. Never has. Action and sacrifice lead to change. It does not have to be violent, but it is the *only* true test of a person's conviction...and if there is no conviction, there is no reason to change. Period.
OK, now you're just being ignorant. (and offending anyone who has actually witnessed or participated in *actual* acts of civil disobedience)
From the Civil Disobedience entry on Wikipedia:
"Protesters practice this non-violent form of civil disorder with the expectation that they will be arrested. Others also expect to be attacked or even beaten by the authorities. Protesters often undergo training in advance on how to react to arrest or to attack, so that they will do so in a manner that quietly or limply resists without threatening the authorities."
That's right. Expectation of consequences, not sitting in your ivory tower whining about it. If you truly believe, and have the conviction of your beliefs, then the consequences would be acceptable. Anyone who was present during the sit-ins of the 60's and 70's knows this first-hand.
FWIW: We don't have a fundamental differing of opinion or ideal regarding Copyright, other than that I believe the term limit should be 7 years, not 14 or 20.
Sadly, there are way too many people who would make that post *without* sarcasm.
As you can see, my estimation of people tends toward the cynical. As I recently watched an entire 30+ page thread on the horrifying racism in L4D2 where there are (*gasp*) Black (as well as White) zombies, well...I feel my estimation is, for the most part, justified.
Unfortunately, that leaves me open to mistaking humor for idiocy.
And no, in case you were wondering, sarcasm does not translate well when written...though had I bothered to translate your sig, I *might* have caught on.
100% agree.

Did that ages ago...

Arnold bread. Many of their varieties contain *NO* HFCS. :)
Usually available in any major supermarket, usually decently priced.
I have heard the Dell Mini 9 runs it quite well, but that is just what I have heard. Messed with it a little on a Dell Latitude a while back and got it running reasonably (subjective) well.

Can I watch netflix movies?
Can I surf the flash-gaming sites?
Can I listen to ShoutCast?
These are the things my wife does on her netbook.
Can the iPad do *any* of these things? ...didn't think so.
App Store? Really?
FireFox = Free.
WinAMP = Free.
Fart App? 99 cents.
Yeah...I can see it all so clearly now.
No...that's not crazy talk.
THIS is crazy talk:
Ostrich muffins creme-filled tires blue basket marshmallow glimmer frog Natalie fried-rice puppy barrel monkey!!!

Nailed it.
It's not louder than the peak volume...it's just that it is *ALL* at the peak volume.
Why, you lucky SoB. :p
Almost no-one does that anymore, unless they are business purchases. It sucks, but I don't buy OEM anymore so....meh.
Technet subscription would, indeed, be cheaper.
Technically, it's for development/testing only, but the keys will work even after you cancel your subscription (or park it), and I have yet to hear about Microsoft canceling Technet keys or subscriptions unless the abuse is flagrant (I.E; posted on a P2P site, etc...)

Got to 2 on Excel 2010 in Windows 7.
*shrug*
To each his own.
But hey, if you hear from Billy-G? Let me know.
Same experience here. Office 2010 looks like it might be a good thing....
Time will tell, of course. They could hose it completely prior to launch. :)
"Windows 7 being given away to TechNet people"
Uh...I pay a yearly subscription for my TechNet copies. I wouldn't exactly call ~$250 a year "giving away".
"But really, what's faster than a two-year old? "
This.
This is what our scientists should be working on. Drop everything else.
Er...that'd be the Mighty Mouse...
For future reference, this article pertains to the Magic Mouse.
No, YOU look ridiculous!!
Superiority complex?
Heh...
That's you diagnosis?
"He don't know me very well, do he?"

You're still an idiot if you think this whining is anything more than just that...or will have any greater effect.
But that's just my opinion. Go ahead and keep it up; You'll figure it out eventually.
