i think that a simple appraisal of most peoples opinions/fears/gripes of google+ shows that theyve never actually used it.
the circles thing was one of the big selling points going all the way back to 2011.. and probably covered here on/....now they allow you to create pseudonymous sub-accounts that cannot be tracked back to any real life identify....and yet people are still crying from the rooftops 'OMG I CANT RISK PEOPLE KNOWING'...well if you want yer head in the sand,..theres that option too

I think google+ is pretty darn good as far as social networks go. It gets a lot of hate, but judging by what people say, a lot of that is from what it was in 2011, and concerns of anonymity. (The 'nag' screens feel like a different issue)
As for anonymity I am fine with not being anonymous to Google itself. I send email using Google Apps for Business account using my real name, they have my billing info and I don't mind sharing stuff I like to friends, family, and the public using my name on my public Google+ account. I did the on a personal website long before Google+ existed.

I think this move kind of strikes to the heart of the benefits of opensource projects. When someone decides they want to go in a different direction, they can. This direction is clearly (judging by the nearly 100,000 lines of code removed) different than the one the OpenSSL team is on..
The openbsd team supports over 20 platforms already. Deciding on on not supporting libressl on those 20 platforms before theyre even finished with the main bulk of the work seems pretty reasonable to me... and of course, it will be opensource.. you can go support other platforms if you want!
if you've got an axe to grind against Theo, and the openbsd team thats fine..... but at least you can be reasonable about this.. there is no evidence that the openbsd team has the same mentality as those in the openssl team had when it comes to making secure and correct code..
using funding to decide how/when theyll support other platforms doesnt relate in any way to the attitudes that caused the heartbleed bug... in fact, it might show that they wouldnt want to put a half-effort into something which they cannot use all of their resources on... which is a good thing.
I look forward to new and interesting side-effects of the pell-mell rush to clean up the code of a poorly written, poorly maintained, and even more poorly documented software package!

im guessing that we will be seeing some changes to Google Voice in the coming few months... maybe even things that make this itworld blog post seem kind of silly.

In the USA you, as a "pro" (whatever that means) can make photographs of strangers on the street and sell them for profit in books or prints.. without permission and without compensation..

There is no need for a model release for any photograph in the USA in public.
If one intends to use an image for commercial use which might imply a person in the photograph endorses a product getting a model release is often prudent because having an image done without one might result in tort/civil cases where someone sues over the implication that they endorse a product which they do not endorse.......theres no legal requirement that a model release is needed for a commerical photograph, its just a cover-yer-behind measure.
I remember when this happened it was like 1am or so.. maybe a bit later and I was flipping through channels and I saw this weird looking flood type thing.. and a bunch of Japanese looking text.... it was the NHK channel
it was going for a very long time, perhaps an hour or more, before it appeared on your CNNs and and NBCs and such..
It was shocking and compelling footage from a helicopter of the tsunami rolling over the landscape..
it was an interesting way to come up on a news story... it was in a language I didnt understand, not on a "news" channel (this channel normally just had japanese language variety type programming) and I couldn't even quite tell what was happening at first.. but by the warnings on the screen, and the tone of the voices of the people talking you knew it was a huge event.. you could see that it was..
over the next few days that channel was what I watched almost exclusively.. I never understood a word of it.. but the scope of things just got worse and worse.. and that was something that seemed missing from the American coverage.... it never quite conveyed the violence, the horror and the magnitude....it is kind of hard for CNN do when they need to cut away for Cheerios commercials
the problem is that if GETTY actually intends people to use these images in their IFRAME embedded player.. then giving people at least the option of choosing the proper size for the layout of their little blog news site/food blog/whatever will go a long way towards doing that..
i tried this yesterday and i don't think id ever use it... it was difficult to find embeddable images and once one did find an image that one could embed: you were faced with an image that didnt fit the layout.
About 3-4 years ago I got into the habit of watching most of the documentaries that come out of the UK.. whether it be bbc/channel4 or whatever else.... Having grown up with PBS/discovery channel I have to say that american documentaries have started to turn to crap.
Most of the American docs these days seem to be stock footage with a voice over.. very low quality and not very interesting.. The bigger trend in american docs is a lot of 3-D animations and cheesy recreations.
In comparison the UK docs usually have a personality on-screen who is generally an expert going through the topic, sometimes interviewing people.. with less reliance on 3D animations and recreations, and in general, more respect for the viewers intelligence they end up being much more enjoyable.
NOVA in particular has tended towards lower quality in the past few years.. in stark comparison to HORIZON, which continues to be quite good.
as I've seen the hype over this COSMOS series come about I can't help but think it will be a big let down... as the budgets just don't seem to be there, along with a different view of the intelligence of the viewer.
let us not forget that one time dolphins were trained to assassinate the president of the united states. and they would have succeeded too, if it werent for the meddling of human interlopers.

thats a bit quaint by american terms! effectively, yes, there arent life sentences.
the USA has at least 2500 people serving life in prison without possibility of parole for crimes committed as children.
also over 3000 people serving life terms for non-violent offenses..
over 150,000 people total serving a life sentence in the USA..
