They are saying (I think) that she is going to teach children and she is dressed in a costume that kids like, so they will think it's cool to drink and be a pirate. IT'S PLAIN FUCKING STUPID! The religious wrong in this country is just yet again trying to control every aspect of personal life with their stupid "think of the children" whine. This kind of stuff scares me. How can you tell if someone is thinking about killing you or wishes that you were dead? Sometimes I wish someone was dead, but I wouldn't go kill him or tell someone to kill him. Pretty soon if you disagree with someone, you will be taken as a threat and executed as some sort of preemtive strike.

Three word answer: NO NO NO!

This is a real annoyance for me because where I work they are trying to replace a very big thick client application with a web application. "they" being the business people. They say that it will get rid of deployment problems... BFD!! There is so much that this application does that can't be done on a "thin" web client, such as OCRing images, advanced caching and prefetching of data to the client, PDF editing, it's very annoying that they want to do this and they know nothing of the technologies. They will not listen to reason, so they are going to start doing it in phases. The first phase will be to do the easy stuff, the next phase will be to trash the first phase because they realize that the rest of the crap can't be done in a thin client. Either that or they develop some bloated ActiveX control or java applet which will be much worse than the disadvantages of a thick client....

    ok, I'm done ranting.

yea, I understand that, but you missed the point. The point is that you can set it to 3 or even 5 but that doesn't mean that you won't screw up though much less likely. However, it still offers pretty much no benefit because someone will figure out how to hack it no matter what you do. And if you have the kind of information that is so sensitive that you would rather have it destroyed that in the wrong hands, it's very likely that someone who has the wrong hands will have the right amount of money and resources to get the technology hacked, rendering it useless and only a problem.

Destroying the contents on a bad password attempt is crazy. Especially when you use very cryptic passwords. People tend to type wrong, hold the shift key down too long, not hold the shift key down when necessary. Sometimes I have to type my passwords two or three times before getting it right. Destroying important sensitive information because I accidentally typed it wrong is just plain stupid. These kind of technologies will only be a pain for people using them legitimately, and anyone who wants to hack to get the information will generally be able to find some way to get it, thus it is only extends the problems and provides no solutions.

If you have systems running JVM 1.3 that interact with systems using 1.4 or above, beware, there are issues in how they implemented the fix in 1.3. In Java 1.3, the DST change is applied to ALL years, including prior to 2007, so if you have a remote object on 1.3 give a date to an application running in 1.4 (as a binary object, not just text) then it will cause problems, it will set it to 1 hour off, if you don't use timestamps, the default will be midnight, so one hour off will be the previous day. This has caused a bunch of problems where I work.
